After receiving a long weekend at an elegant hotel beside the majestic Niagara Falls as a Christmas gift, Jodie Gibson is determined to do nothing but relax and enjoy the scenery. And, okay, just maybe meet someone who makes her toes curl.

Sebastian is sophisticated, tall, dark and gorgeous--everything a woman fantasizes about. But he's also an 18th century ghost. He haunts the halls of the hotel, seeking the one true love that can help him find peace…

Excerpt

As she peered into the reflective glass, a face appeared behind her. Jodie whipped around and fell back against the window.

Oh my fucking God!

Before her, in what looked like a shimmering bubble, stood the most breathtakingly beautiful man she’d ever seen. Dressed in a white shirt and black pants, he had dark unruly hair and striking, magnetic blue eyes that held her in place.

Jodie blinked, uncertain, scared and breathless.

How was it possible? She’d read the newspaper clippings, yes, but it was unimaginable to think ghosts might actually walk among the living.

Not everything made sense. She only believed in things that could actually be seen, felt and touched. This seemed surreal.

Stunned by the apparition before her, dressed in what looked like centuries-old clothes straight out of Esquire, he seemed to look straight through her, and his smile warmed her clear to her toes. Lord, she was in trouble.

“Hello.” Soft and gravelly, his voice alone seduced her…all the way to her toes. Her body quivered and her center tightened.

Whoa. What the hell am I thinking? There’s a ghost in front of me and I’m ready to jump his bones. Not bloody likely.

“What are you doing here? Get out. I don’t care who you are, you’re leaving, right now.”

He frowned. “No need to be frightened. I’ve been here for centuries.”

Jodie laughed, and not one to wilt like a scared little girl, stood tall. “This is all a joke.” She looked around, up and down, and all over the room. “Are there hidden cameras somewhere? Hey, Ashton, if you’re behind the camera, you can come out now. I’ve been Punk’d good. Thanks and all, but I’d like to get on with my evening without you.”

“Who is this Ashton? What is a punk? A rake, perhaps?” he asked.

Jodie squinted. “A rake?” She hadn’t ever heard that term spoken, but had read it in historical romances. No one talked like that these days. “No. Never mind, it’s not important. Listen, I just want you to go. I want to enjoy my evening.”

His smile was gentle. “I’m sorry, my dear, but this evening every decade is the only time I am visible to the human eye. I never miss a chance to watch the Falls.”

Every decade…

“You’re telling me you do this every ten years? How old are you?”

“I was born in 1781. That makes me—”

“Two hundred thirty-one,” Jodie whispered, legs weak. She grabbed the back of the chair nearby and sat down. Were such things even possible?

Jesus.

An eighteenth century ghost stood before her.

Merry Christmas to me.

Sunday Snog: Last Minute Kiss

Snogs are back! Here's a quick kiss from my free M/M holiday story, Last Minute Gift.

After you're done here, slip on over to Victoria's to read her gourmet kiss, then follow the links to other authors' sexy offerings.

Oh, and I have an ongoing contest related to Last Minute Gift. Read the full story, then send me an email at contest - at - lisabetsarai.com with the subject line "Last Minute Gift". Tell me which character you like better, Scott or Flynn, and why. You could win a copy of my latest release Nasty Business.

Now, on with the snog!

Scott scooted his seat closer to Flynn's. Now he did rest his hand on that broad, wool-clad shoulder. Flynn sighed and leaned into the touch. Scott could feel the hard muscle shifting under his palm. "It's okay, man. You can tell me." Genuine sympathy mingled with lust.

Flynn held his gaze for a long time, clearly weighing the wisdom of sharing his secrets with a stranger. Finally he shrugged. "I'm gay."

"Yeah, I kind of figured. Me too."

"I figured." Flynn flashed a brief smile that was swiftly eclipsed by pained embarrassment. "The trouble is I've never - never been fucked. I've tried it with a couple of guys, but I'm just too tight. Too much pain - I can't take it."

A virgin! Scott sent a little prayer winging toward the gods of gayness, thanking them for this holiday gift.
"My last lover broke up with me because of it. He said he needed a boy whose ass he could ream."

"What a bastard! If he's that selfish, you're better off without him."

"Maybe." Flynn's lips trembled. It was obvious he'd been hurt. "Anyway, I've been doing some research on the Internet, and everyone says you should use a plug to stretch yourself out." He glanced down at the silicone object in his palm. "But it just seems so - I don't know, so gross. So impersonal, to shove some inanimate object up your butt."

Scott had a sudden image of himself bending a naked Flynn over a hassock and twisting the toy into that tight, virgin pucker. He'd already been half hard; now his cock swelled to to the point that his trousers felt like a straight jacket. "I think you need some help, Flynn."

"I don't know. Maybe I just need to find a man who's satisfied even if he can't fuck me."

"Would that satisfy you, though?" Scott rose to his feet and took the empty bottle from Flynn's hand. "Let me tell you, nothing feels so good..." Reaching down, he pulled the other man up, into his arms, and took possession of Flynn's tempting mouth.

The guy might be inexperienced when it came to anal sex, but he was an expert kisser. Scott felt warm all over as Flynn sealed their lips together and plunged an agile tongue into his mouth. The soft hairs of Flynn's mustache tickled his upper lip. Scott tasted peppermint breath mints underneath the yeasty flavor of the beer, and up close like this, he caught a spicy hint of patchouli in Flynn's scent that made him light-headed.

Given Flynn's previous demeanor, his kiss was surprisingly aggressive. He wrapped his wiry arms around Scott's chest, pulling him close, then slid his hands down to Scott's ass and dug his fingers into the denim-clad flesh. As he continued to ravage Scott's mouth, he ground his swollen groin against the aching lump inside Scott's trousers. His tongue darted in and out, thrusting like a small cock as he rubbed their bodies together. A few more minutes of this stimulation, Scott realized, and he'd shoot in his pants. That definitely was not how he wanted this scene to end.

"Uh - wait, slow down, Flynn!" With some difficulty, he eased himself out of the painter's embrace. "Don't you think we'd be more comfortable if we were wearing fewer clothes?"

"Ah - oh, God, I'm sorry!" All at once, the artist was his shy, apologetic self once more. "I didn't mean - it's just that it's been so long, and you felt so good..."

"I wasn't objecting, was I? But let's do this right. Come back to Harry's office. It's not exactly luxury, but he's got a couch - and nobody's going to see us through the store windows and call the cops."

Girl on Girl

By Leigh Ellwood (Guest Blogger)

I am pleased to announce that I will be editing an anthology of lesbian erotica and erotic romance for Coming Together! Coming Together: Girl on Girl will benefit the National Center for Lesbian Rights and feature stories from today's hottest writers of erotica and romance. That's the plan, anyway. I welcome anybody with a sexy F/F short to submit to this work.

While Girl on Girl is not the first lesbian-themed anthology to come from Coming Together, it will be the first such multi-author work. If you've gone through my back list, you will see I have a few F/F titles for sale - individual shorts and a collection of said shorts in She Loves Me, which is also out in audio. I plan to write more in this genre - in fact, I'll be revising and lengthening my short Under Covers to include more lesbian erotic action, as well as writing new stuff.

If you write F/F, or want to try, I'm looking for shorts from 2,500 to about 10K. Any sub-genre. Here are the submission guidelines, as taken from the Coming Together website.

* * *

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS - APRIL 15, 2013
PUBLICATION - SUMMER, 2013

Coming Together: Girl on Girl is a collection of lesbian erotica and erotic romance edited by award-winning author Leigh Ellwood. All proceeds from the sales of this anthology, and any individual titles released in eBook or audiobook, will benefit the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

We love women who love women…and women who may love more than one at the same time! Coming Together: Girl on Girl is a celebration of Sapphic proportions, and we want your hottest, sexiest stories about the love and passion Jeanette Winterson once described as “mirror geography.”

We would love to see:
  • Engaging characters we’ll remember long after we’ve read the story.
  • Smoldering sexual tension and explicit prose guaranteed to melt a digital reader.
  • Believable passion between two or more lesbian and/or bisexual or bi-curious women.
  • All sub-genres will be considered. Give us secretive lovers in Regency England, lesbians in space, interracial entanglements, whips and chains…or mix and match! So long as the focus remains on F/F sex.

We don’t want to see:
  • The usual no-no’s: no incest, underage folks, rape as titillation, bodily waste, snuff.
  • No men are allowed to play this time around, sorry. Your story can have male characters, but once it hits the bedroom it’s ladies only (unless your guy is just there to watch – we’d have to read the story first).
If you have questions that aren’t covered here, feel free to contact the editor atffcomingtogether@gmail.com.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Direct all submissions to ffcomingtogether@gmail.com and CC submissions@the-erotic-cocktail.com.

Include “Coming Together F/F Submission” in the header of your e-mail. In your e-mail message, include a short summary of your story and a short biography, about 150 words.

Stories between 2,500 and 7,500 are preferred. The editor will consider stories as long as 10,000 if she finds them truly exceptional.

Coming Together contracts non-exclusive rights to publish, so previously published work is accepted. Please note it in your query, but remember you must own the rights to the work you submit. Stories over 5,000 words can be released individually through Coming Together as well, with the sales proceeds benefiting the NCLR.

Please use RTF, DOC, or DOCX format when submitting a manuscript. Include your real name and pen name and a working e-mail address. The editor will only consider manuscripts in the aforementioned formats attached to the query e-mail. DO NOT paste your story in the body of your message.

Second Chances

By Cassandra Gold (Guest Blogger)

Do you believe in second chances?

I do.  As both a reader and writer of romance, I love flawed characters.  I don’t want to read or write about Mr. Perfect and his heroic lover, Mr. Even Better.  I want to read and write about characters with pasts that maybe they aren’t so proud of.  Characters who have experienced real life, with all its joys and sorrows.

Even a villain can become the hero of his own story, if he wants to change badly enough.  Some of my absolute favorite stories have featured characters who just want a chance to try again.

In the case of my upcoming release The Cost of Secrets, this means my heroes both have histories they’d rather not share.  Closeted police officer Dan’s shyness is exacerbated by memories of childhood humiliations.  Fitness instructor and college student Isaac seems to have his life together, but he’s hiding a secret shame.  Neither man truly believes himself worthy of love.  More than anything else, they each want a second chance—to live their lives on their own terms rather than on someone else’s.  Whether they can move forward together, despite the obstacles created by their pasts, is the central question of The Cost of
Secrets.

For Dan and Isaac, the main obstacles in their path are their own fears.  For other characters, the problems are external.  In the past few years, I’ve read stories with heroes that were hitmen (reformed or not), ex-cons, prostitutes, cheaters, liars, and former addicts.  Most of the stories were well-written enough for me to believe in the characters’ redemption and want to root for them to find their second chances.  I have read a few, however, in which I found a character’s actions unforgivable, or didn’t think he or she was truly regretful.  In those cases, I didn’t buy into the second chance, because I felt like the character hadn’t earned it.

What do you think?  Can any character be redeemed in the hands of a skilled author, or are there characters that shouldn’t get another chance?  Anybody have some good suggestions of second chance books for me to check out?

The Cost of Secrets, coming January 9 from Loose Id!

Police officer Dan Fallon knows the streets, but he's a rookie at romance, and still very much in the closet. He thinks sexy fitness instructor Isaac is way out of his league, until a dangerous situation breaks the ice between them.

Isaac Weiss has spent years trying to get his life back together after a series of terrible mistakes. The last thing he should be doing is trying to have a relationship with a cop, especially with his past. Too bad he's unable to resist sweet, shy Dan.

It's not long though, before the secrets both men are keeping rise to the surface and threaten to destroy the fragile connection they've forged with one another. Can Dan and Isaac find acceptance or will the cost be too high?

About me: I’m a middle school teacher, an avid reader, a procrastinator extraordinaire, and, occasionally, a writer.  My first published story was a gay erotic romance six years ago, and I’ve been writing in the genre ever since.  My not-so-secret vices are cupcakes, cheesy pop music, fruity frozen cocktails, horror stories, and colored pens (must be the teacher in me).  Come and visit me at www.cassandragold.com, or at my facebook http://www.facebook.com/cassandra.gold.author.

Naughtiness for the New Year

"I need a butt plug."

Is that naughty enough? That's the first line in my free M/M holiday story "Last Minute Gift", which you can read (if you have a few minutes) here.  I've got a contest this month revolving around this story, too. You can find the details in my December newsletter.

Anyway, "Last Minute Gift" is a Christmas tale, and here we are at New Year's Day already. I guess we need some new naughtiness. How about a snippet from my most recent release, Nasty Business?

****

There's a knock, and then a soft, Spanish-tinged voice. "Ruby?"

I stretch out on the bed, adjusting my position so that my hips swell provocatively under the crimson satin and the fabric parts to reveal my bare thigh. "Come in, Raoul."

Turquoise reflections from the swimming pool outside are the only illumination. Still, I know that Raoul can see, well enough. There's a sharp intake of breath as he takes in my attire and my posture. I pretend not to notice. "It's that lamp, there on the night table."

He leans over to fumble with the fixture. His naked forearm, furred with fine black hair, is inches from me. I catch a whiff of his sweat as I prop myself up on one arm, as if to supervise. I am beginning to enjoy myself.

My strap slips off my left shoulder. My left breast tumbles halfway into view. The handyman pretends to occupy himself with his task, screwing in the new bulb with exaggerated care. I can hear his accelerated breathing. I fancy I can hear his heart beating faster because of my proximity.

Finally he switches on the lamp. Warm light spills over the bed. "There you are," he says, beginning to straighten. My hand on his arm stops him. He looks at me, hardly daring to believe what he reads in my face. Desire, and willingness. I run my fingers lightly down his forearm, just brushing the fur, sensing the muscles shifting under his skin. When my fingers find his, I grasp his hand, and slowly bring it to cover my exposed breast.

He gasps, but then takes advantage of the situation, cupping my warm flesh in his palm, lightly squeezing the nipple. "Thank you, Raoul," I whisper. "I appreciate your prompt service."

Sound like story you might enjoy? Leave a comment on this post, and you'll be entered to win your own ebook copy of the full-length novel! Just tell me your naughtiest New Year's wish and I'll try to fulfill it in a future book (if I haven't done so already in my back list...).

And, as you probably already know, this post is part of Skye Warren's huge Naughty New Years bloghop.  Every comment, at every site during the hop (see below for a full list) counts as an entry for the grand prizes: a $100 gift certificate from the ultimate adult emporium, EdenFantasys, or digital gift basket of ten erotic titles.

You'll find the full list of participants below. Leave your comment - then get hopping!

I'm posting this on the 1st, and you can comment here right away. However, the hop won't start officially until January 2nd.

Happy New Year!

A Kiss at Midnight

It wasn't deliberate, or what she'd expected.

Laura had actually planned to leave around eleven. She had to work tomorrow; hospitals didn't close for New Year's Day. The one glass of wine she allowed herself was long gone. She was exhausted from last night's shift. Her jaw ached from the constant smiling. She really didn't want to hear any more about Jill's and Howie's upcoming trip to Jamaica, or Martha's promotion, or Reese's engagement. All that Laura had to look forward to was curling up in the new quilt Mom has sent for Christmas, with a paperback mystery and her plump tabby Morris for company.

She'd made moves toward the bedroom where the coats were piled, but Gretch had intercepted her and begged her to stay. Gretchen was her best friend. Laura felt guilty refusing. She accepted a plastic glass of champagne and stood by the window, watching the drifting snow. Most of Gretchen's guests huddled around the TV, counting down with the broadcaster in Times Square.

Huge flakes swirled lazily like feathers from giant down pillow. She hoped that she'd be able to get a cab. Without thinking, she sipped at the effervescent liquid in her hand. It was chill and sweet on her tongue.

"Five. Four. Three. Two. One..." came the chant from the rest of the crowd. Laura barely heard them.

She felt his presence behind her an instant before he laid a firm hand on her shoulder and turned her around. She had a confused impression of worn plaid flannel and tousled brown hair as he gathered her to his chest and brought his face to hers.

His mouth was silky and strong and tasted like champagne. His brazen tongue played along the seam of her closed lips, teasing her into opening. A rush of heat flooded her when he entered, turning her earlobes and her nipples to burning coals. The air seemed to leave her lungs, sucked out by his energetic kiss. She staggered against him, suddenly dizzy. He held her closer, one bold hand cupping her buttocks while the other supported her under her arms.

He delved deeper, fanning the flames that whipped through her body. Between her legs, under her tights, she was melting. His scent rose around her, cherry pipe tobacco and old-fashioned lavender cologne. She ventured a tentative hand up his back and felt solid muscle move beneath his shirt. His fingertips grazed the side of her breast. A spark shot from her nipples down to her sex. She gasped into his mouth and he swallowed the small sound, kissing her harder.

Laura lost herself in the velvet darkness behind her closed eyelids. She didn't want to break the spell. She relaxed into his arms, letting him explore her body as though they were completely alone. Rigidness pressed against her belly, kindling a drunken sense of triumph. He was as aroused as she was.

The kiss lasted for hours. One moment he nibbled delicately as her lips. The next, he forced her wide and plundered her mouth, grinding his thigh against her crotch all the while. Champagne bubbles had found their way into her blood. She felt bouyant, giggly, light as air.

Finally he released her. "Happy New Year," the stranger murmured into her ear, nuzzling her throat wetly. Laura gazed up at dark eyes brimming with laughter and intelligence. She realized that she was trembling.

"Do I know you?" His face was vaguely familiar, but the rich baritone voice was completely new.

"You do now," he said with a grin. He raised his champagne glass to her in a silent toast, then took a sip. "I'm Dan. Gretchen's brother. And you're Laura, right?"

"Um--right." Laura felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment. "Did Gretchen put you up to this?" She forced herself to move away from him, even though what she really wanted was to throw herself back into his arms.

"Put me up to what?" Dan raised his eyebrows in mock innocence. "It's midnight on New Year's. You're supposed to kiss the person standing next to you."

Laura looked around. Sure enough, lots of couples were locked in heated embraces. She would have sworn that Dan's kiss had taken hours, but clearly it was only moments after midnight.

"Hm--well--thank you." Her still-taut nipples pressed against her sweater. She was sure that Dan could see them. She took another step backward and was acutely aware of how damp her panties had become. "I've got to go home now. Happy New Year."

"Wait!" He grabbed her hand. His strength was obvious. Laura wished she could melt into the floor. "Don't go yet. It's early." He searched her face and she saw doubt in his eyes for the first time. "Unless there's someone waiting for you...someone else...a lover..."

Laura's resistance fluttered away like the snowflakes outside. "No, there's no one waiting for me--except my cat. I don't have a lover."

Dan's relief was obvious. He circled her waist and pulled her against him. "Now you do."

His lips claimed hers once more. Laura knew it was going to be a good year.

My Book, My Nemesis…

By Chacelyn Pierce (Guest Blogger)

First, let me say thank you to Ms. Lisabet Sarai for hosting me today. I'm not much of a guest blogger because, well, I feel like I really don't have much to say that would be interesting. But I wanted to share the history of The Last Pyr of Eden and how far it came. Not to mention how it nearly took me out and crushed my spirit.

Originally finished in 2010, it sat collecting dust on my hard drive for almost two years until I subbed it this past summer. It was called Ethereal Heat back then and it was my nemesis. This manuscript had literally put me through Writer Hell. It tested my strength, my resolve, and nearly broke me. This story wrenched tears from me and not in the joyful sense.

My idea for this story was sound; my series plot was played out to the end. I started writing it and I spent most of 2009 "perfecting" this story that I deemed my best work at the time. Then, my computer crashed and I lost everything, I was devastated. I was 30k into this great story, and then I was down to nothing. I was depressed for weeks to the point that I didn't write anything or jot down ideas. I just moped about the apartment feeling sick, looking like a zombie when all I wanted to do was write the next scene. It was as if the computer virus killed me and my characters too.

But there was a ray of sunlight.

I took my computer to get fixed and nearly kissed the tech guy who told me they were able to pull my work from the hard drive. I waited for three days to get my recovery disks. I was so excited that I'd be back at it; I'd be crafting this fantasy story again. I went out, rented a computer and squealed like a captured pig when my book files sat nice and pretty in this protected folder. I opened it up, lost only 5k, but I couldn’t be happier. My mom bought me a USB, I was saving every five minutes. I was pushing 45k, things were back on track.

So they seemed…

One morning, I plugged in my USB and it was empty. It was okay though because I'd saved on the computer too, right? Nope. I'd been only saving on the USB, which was now blank. My mom called the store which she bought the USB from, and lo and behold my USB had likely come from a batch that was proving faulty. Panicked, I freaked and descended to the self-sorrow again. I was back to the 25k saved on the recovery disk. I lost another 20k on this story. Gone. I was even more distraught. I stopped writing, I was proving useless at it anyway. A few past projects were rejected via agent and I was stuck in this Write and Obliterated limbo with my current WIP.

My husband noticed I hadn't written anything in about a month and I told him that I wasn't getting anywhere. So why even bother. Wrong words to say to him obviously because he chewed me up and down about not quitting and he basically pushed me back into the chair and told me to finish it. My mother provided me with encouragement as well but I didn't want any of it. The only way to get them to go away was to write. I grumbled the first two days. I hated all my characters because I knew where they were supposed to be in the story and they weren't there anymore. I finally got back up to 40k and felt a little better. I kept chipping away at it and finally I had an 85k piece of crap. (I can say that because it was my novel and it was true.) I felt good, though. I polished it up (horribly) and started subbing it.

My query letter got a few nibbles from agents that requested partials. You don't know how happy this made me. I can still see me and my mother rushing out to Kinko's at ten pm to make copies. Those agents liked the plot of the story but ultimately said no. I was disappointed but not crushed. I was so used to hearing no that it hardly phased me.

I knew I had more learning to do; it had everything to do with my technical writing and grammatical issues. I put Ethereal Heat aside and worked on other things, novellas, short stories, and I started subbing to e-publishers. After a few months I met the right friend that helped me see the mistakes that I was missing. She doesn't realize how special she is to me. Finally, after learning a little more, I started getting some contracts, learned more things by my past editors and other author friends that I was lucky to obtain along the way.

In 2012, I opened the file I hadn't opened since receiving my last rejection in 2011. I looked it over with a better eye for detail and got to work fixing it up 2012-style. I chopped it down, took 30k out (funny, isn't it), gave it a new name, and subbed it to the e-pub world. Total-E-Bound picked The Last Pyr of Eden up so fast I was left feeling like I read the acceptance letter wrong. It couldn't be a yes. Yeses didn't come that fast and nothing had gone right with this book, nothing. How did it finally get to the point of acceptance? I was still asking myself that question through the edits. How did my nemesis book and I make it to this point. My answer came when I had to type out the dedication; it was my mom and my husband. Without them, my newest release wouldn't be out for all to see

Outside the protected gates of Eden, ancient enemies lurk in waiting to drain elementals of all their power.

For eons, the four elementals have bled their nourishing blood to sustain life for superior spirit elementals known as Daemons. No race has suffered in despair as critically as the fire elementals—the Pyr. Their numbers dwindled down so miserably, that Raynor is the last known warrior of the race, living on a faint hope that there is more of his kind between both worlds. He ventures out constantly searching for elementals to save from enslavement. In reality, he searches for a female to bond with. After a yearlong trip away from Eden—an elemental settlement hidden deep in the woods—he is immediately confronted by the enchanting Sylph, Samira. She ignites desires and emotions in him that he considered long dead and nearly destroyed like his people. Indulging in his erotic cravings with Samira can be a daring game to play, because elementals have never intermingled in all recorded history
