An Interview with Catherine Russell - #darkfantasy #pnr #vampires @CathyMRussell

Exit Stage Left cover

Today I’m delighted to welcome Catherine Russell, author of the dark fantasy romance Exit Stage Left, to Beyond Romance. Be sure to enter her fabulous giveaway, at the end of this post.

Lisabet: What is something you’ve lied about?

Catherine: It took many years for us to get pregnant. In 1994 I was given an early diagnosis of cervical cancer. We were told that we’d be extremely lucky should I ever get pregnant due to the multiple procedures I had, and if I did, it would be a miracle that I could carry to a full term. Well…long story short…I got pregnant many years later as we had planned it that way and we were very blessed it took only one try. My wife and I had planned it very carefully and didn’t tell a soul. Once we finally announced the great news to the world, we settled in for all the expected things to happen. Such as baby showers, getting a nursery ready, and food cravings. Well we did the first 2….the last one, I never had…at all. As I drew closer to my due date and knew that I hadn’t had this one crucially normal thing happen, I knew my wife felt a bit left out, that she couldn’t do this one “spousally” privileged rite of passage…so I made up a few cravings, so that she could run out in the late evening or early morning to fulfill her wishes…totally unbeknownst to her. I fibbed to make her feel included and better about her part of the whole wonderful experience of our pregnancy. I did eventually tell her, many years later only to be told…”I thought so, your cravings were too predictable.” We both had a good laugh.

L: Who is the last person you hugged?

C: That’s too easy. My son, who is now over 6ft tall, towering over me. He’s about to leave on his first internship out of state for an entire month. So we’ve spent a great deal of time together as of late.

L: What are you reading now?

C: I’m quite proud to answer this one. It’s the first non-fiction book that I’ve ever read. And for me, along with many other women and men across the nation, Nov. 8th 2016 was a tragedy, a door opening to the slow and painful torture of watching and experiencing just what a narcissistic, racist, idiotic, and egomaniacal man that currently resides in the White House truly is. “What Happened” by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

L: How do you come up with the titles to your books?

C: With The Stage Chronicles, I knew there’d be at least 1 yet no more than 4, so I mulled around with just The Stage to start with and then it struck me, each sequential book is like another step, that when you’re on stage you can only go in certain directions. With the new storyline that has since erupted in my brain, I was doodling with the main characters names one day, creating initials and intertwining them and came up with A/V, (Anna/Viktor) and I thought the 2 single letters looked striking…and voilĂ , came up with it.

L: Share your dream cast for your book.

C: When I began to create The Stage Chronicles, I saw it my mind’s eye as a movie scene, playing out scene by scene. The fiery red headed Kate Mara is my Megan O’Day with her best friend Ashleigh being portrayed by Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai and last but not least Geoffrey Drake would be embodied by Andrew Hozier Byrne, the lead singer of Hozier! The other characters I’m still fleshing out as far as their human counterparts.

L: Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself and the book. I hope the tour goes really well.

Exit Stage Left Blurb

Megan O'Day seems to be navigating the unpredictable relationship with Geoffrey Drake, her centuries-old vampire guardian angel, rather well. But then his past suddenly rips him from her, forcing her to face the unknown future alone in the gripping sequel to The Stage.

Still bound to Geoffrey through the power of the Link despite his unexplained absence, Megan's mind is flooded with his haunted memories. While she relives the darkest moments of his previous life, she discovers his attachment to a woman who bears a striking resemblance to her.

As she questions Geoffrey's love for her, she strikes up a dangerous alliance with Geoffrey's brother, Alexander, who is also a vampire. She hopes that he will help her find a way to rescue Geoffrey: instead, he seems to be awakening new emotions and desires within her.

As the past and present collide, Megan struggles to fend off Alexander's dark seduction. Is Geoffrey truly beyond the reach of her love forever? If not, what must be sacrificed to bring them back together again?

Excerpt

I began to hear a sound as they were speaking; a small child’s voice, whispering to me. Her high pitched voice, singing a lullaby and I recognized the notes. It was Greensleeves, the same one my mother had sang to me when I was a child. Without thinking, I walked forward, ignoring them as they reached out for me.

Megan, stop!” I heard them say yet I went in. Suddenly the room was full of sunlight. It was a child’s nursery, with light blue walls and soft white curtains at the lovely double sided windows that opened on to a huge oak tree, whose branches reached out to the window’s ledge. A small robin sat on the limb, singing. I turned to see toys and stuffed animals around the wooden floor that was covered with a multicolored throw rug. Shelf after shelf of books and nick knacks were all around the walls. Then I saw her in the corner, slowly moving back and forth in the rocking chair, holding a doll, gently stroking its hair. She looked up and I saw eyes, one green and one blue. Her light brown hair was tied up with a yellow ribbon, and she wore a pale blue dress with lace and bows. Her legs had the familiar white tights that I remembered as well as black Mary Jane’s on her little feet.

Hello there,” she said, smiling sweetly.

Hello. Who are you?” I asked walking toward her, still looking around, totally amazed at what I was seeing, experiencing.

Well, I’m you of course,” she said, coyly. She jumped up and reached out for my hand. She looked at the cute little tea set on the table next to her.

Will you join me for some tea with my dolly?” she asked in her little voice, so sweet and innocent. There was something I was supposed to be doing, but what was it? I couldn’t remember. Wasn’t there someone with me, right before I saw her? No, I must’ve of imagined that. Where else would I want to be besides here?

Yes, I’d love to. Would you like me to pour?” I said, sitting down and crossing me legs as she sat in the little chair beside me.

About the Author

Catherine Russell was born in Tacoma, Washington and raised in a small town just south, South Hill, Puyallup. At the time South Hill was a heavily wooded area and far off the beaten path. Growing up she had the forests as her fantasy world along with the wild animals. She lived with her parents and an older sister. There are a few similarities from her own childhood that have carried over in to her first novel, “The Stage”. As a child, she did have a small dog named Toto, whom she would quite frequently roam the woods with. Her childhood home still stands, and is still nestled in the woods even though South Hill has undergone an extreme makeover since she lived there. She enjoyed hours of day dreaming and playing in the woods, which in turn fed her fantasy world of make believe.

The book is on sale for $0.99 during the tour only.

Historical fantasy romance from a brand new author! @tayhobbit #medieval #fantasy #giveaway

Cloaked teaser image

Lisabet: Hello, Taylor! Welcome to Beyond Romance. Cloaked sounds like a fascinating book. Where did you get the concept for this book? How historically accurate is it? And what sort of research did you do, if any?

Taylor Hobbs: Hello and thank you for having me on your blog, Lisabet! I want to begin by tackling your first question: Where did you get the concept for this book?

I was inspired to write a historical fantasy novel because of an obsession with Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series, and Erika Johansen, author of the Queen of the Tearling series. Both authors write strong female characters in memorable settings with a dash of fantasy. After devouring those series, I wanted more of the genre, so I figured I would write the book I wanted to read!

This story poured out of me, and I wrote 80,000 words in 80 days. I was going through a difficult time in my life, so I needed a sweeping fantasy novel to escape into and a kickass female protagonist to encourage me. The opening line came out of nowhere, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it until I wrote it down. I built the story from there. For those wondering, this is the opening line: ‘Naked as the day she was born, Charlotte felt the earth’s grip tighten around her with an unyielding hold.’ It was a visceral, no-holds-barred way to introduce her. Add in a mentor with a secret identity and a kingdom on the brink of revolution, and the story wrote itself.

How historically accurate is it?

The location and time period for Cloaked are loosely based on medieval Europe. Obviously, Croantis and Algonia are fictional countries, but if I had to compare them to real-life counterparts, the setting for Croantis was inspired by Spain and the setting for Algonia was inspired by France. I included basically everything a reader expects from a historical fantasy romance novel. We're talking horses, knights, castles, kings, taverns, a studly hero with a dark past, and more.

I love the fantasy genre because of the freedom I have as a writer. While building the setting, I am not constrained by actual historical events and can take the characters any direction that makes sense for the book. I can also add the unexpected into a historical story, like an advanced weapon to heighten the stakes!

What sort of research did you do?

Though the setting is fictional, I did do research to add to the authenticity of the experience. The main focus of my research was on fighting styles and medieval weaponry. This is such a huge part of Fawkes' character and Charlotte's development, and I wanted to immerse the reader into what it would have actually been like. I also know nothing about horses, so I consulted one of my beta readers, an accomplished equestrian, for all horse-related behavior. Other than that, I let my creativity flow and got lost in the world-building. It was a blast.

If any readers have additional questions about Cloaked, please comment below and I will respond. Thanks for having me today, Lisabet!

Blurb

As the Cloaked Shadow, Fawkes has made his career breaking into prisons for any contract with a large enough purse. He takes advantage of the kingdom's impending revolution by playing both sides of the conflict. Each rescue contract he fulfills turns a tidy profit until he angers the wrong duke.

Charlotte is a criminal-in-training who yearns to crack her mentor’s guarded façade, but is unprepared to confront the depths of his dark past. As her sense of right and wrong blurs, Charlotte discovers just how far she will go for the Cloaked Shadow and the sacrifices he requires.

Now hunted throughout the land, Fawkes must face long-buried secrets in order to survive, but they could destroy him. Charlotte risks everything, including her heart, to set Fawkes on the path to redemption.

Will Charlotte have the strength to pull Fawkes into the light, or will she follow him into the shadows?

Excerpt

Fawkes’ attack pressed Charlotte backward, and soon they were outside. As Charlotte’s feet slipped in the mud, she realized she had lost her size advantage. Lightning cracked across the sky, illuminating her surroundings long enough to blind her, and she failed to anticipate the next punch. It landed hard on her right shoulder and spun her around.

Before she could steady herself to counter, her arm was wrenched behind her back. Fawkes had a grip on it with one hand, the other around her throat. She stood flush against him, feeling his harsh breath and pounding heart as it beat against her back. They stood like statues, neither one of them wanting to the first to break the spell.

The roar of thunder made her jump and brought them back to reality. “I’ve gotten better, haven’t I?” Charlotte couldn’t help asking. She’d meant it as a quip, but it came out too hopeful.

She felt Fawkes sigh, tensing his hold on her before dropping his grip. With her back still to him, she waited for his answer. Instead, his hand brushed wet hair back from her face before a finger traveled down and traced her jawline. Charlotte leaned into the touch, but then it was gone. She turned to see only darkness, and then a flash of lightning showed his tall frame heading back to the cave.

An Uninhibited Interview with Author Larry Archer - #interview #erotica @LarryArcher

Larry Archer logo

As you undoubtedly know by now, I just did a paired release with my friend and colleague Larry Archer. I set my novella Hot Brides in Vegas in Larry’s fictional world of swingers and strippers. Of course Larry's book, Nina the Fallen Ballerina, also revolves around The Fox's Den, the wildest, classiest strip club in Las Vegas. We wrote intros for each other’s books, too.

Anyway, today we’re each interviewing the other. But these aren’t your typical author interviews, with superficial questions like “Where do you get your ideas?” or “Are you a plotter or a pantser?” No, we’re going for the real dirt in these conversationsas you might expect from two smut mongers like us!

I hope you’ll go read Larry’s interview with me, here:

Meanwhile, to find out everything you ever wanted to know about the real Larry Archer, read on!

Be warned, though; this interview is not safe for work!

Lisabet: Obviously, Larry Archer, the owner of The Fox's Den, is in some sense your alter ego. In what ways are you and your character similar? How are you different?

Larry: Owning The Fox's Den is a Walter Mitty thing for me. My character is exactly like me or at least how I perceive myself to be with the exception of owning a strip club and having more money than God. My wife and I are professional white collar types in real life. I did, in fact, grow up on a farm in East Texas, which shaped a lot of my values. My father is a blue-collar type, and my mother is a psychologist, a weird combination I grant you. Between my Mom's liberal ideas and my Dad's right of center conservative ideas, my belief structure is definitely a little skewed.

When I write, I picture myself in the story and react as I would. I like to think that I'm towards the quiet side while my wife is an "A" type and typically bouncing off the walls so to speak. We are complete opposites, and I guess we complement each other.

Back in the mid-west, we frequented several strip clubs and one key-club. Typically about twice a month, if there weren't a house party, we would end up at a strip club or the key club. Normally it would be 5-6 couples and 2 or 3 unicorns, so our normal going-out group was 15-20 people. This was the basis for The Fox's Den as it ended up being a cross between our favorite strip club and the key club.

Our favorite strip club had couples night on Saturdays, and a lot of the girls would get up and go topless on the dance floor to the delight of the customers. It's funny how guys will crowd around to see a thirty-year-old housewife go topless when there are eighteen-year-olds with perfect bodies dancing on stage.

The key club was your wildest fantasy, an actual club where the only people who got in had to have a key. A girl I met at a house party was a waitress there and invited us to the club. We met with the owner and after making our bones with him were invited to join. It was a large two-story building, with a normal bar on the bottom floor, and a door with one of those round keys that would unlock it and allow access to the second level. There was a bar at one end with a pretty big stage and the rest 4-tops.

The club typically had about half and half couples and single guys, with a few single females. It was not quite an "on-premise" swing club as most of the guys were straight but a majority of the couples were swingers. Pretty much anything went at the club, and there was always an impromptu floor show with several naked housewives and sometimes a lucky guy. Like the Den, single guys had to keep their hands to themselves except when invited and this rule was strictly enforced by the management. Of course, we always had one or two cops with us in case of problems.

Lisabet: I know that you and your wife are long-time participants in the swinging lifestyle. What's the wildest scene you've experienced as part of that lifestyle? Has that scene made it into any of your books?

Larry: We host several big parties a year, and the best one by far is our annual New Year's Eve Pajama Party. There are between 50-60 couples invited plus a handful of singles. We travel a lot, and as a result, there are typically a number of couples from across the country who we've met. As you can probably imagine having 100+ minimally dressed people in a 4,000 square foot house means that it's wall to wall people.

New Year's typically lasts until the next normal work day, so our party is generally 2-3 days longs long. After New Year's Eve, it's about 5 – 10 couples that end up spending the weekend with us.

As far as the craziest thing, one that sticks out is the night one of our neighbors crashed our New Year's Eve parties. About 1AM, the doorbell rings, and Wifey and I answer the door to discover our neighbors from three houses down standing there. They are all decked out and came home from another party and decided to stop in. Up until that point, we've always been able to avoid inviting them as that would have required some disclosure that we didn't want to make.

I'm in a bathrobe and Foxy is in a one-piece Snoopy long john outfit, which was unbuttoned down below her waist. I don't remember if the flap was down or not. Not knowing exactly what to do as they were good friends, except straight, we invited them in.

There was an orgy going on in the living room and most of the people at this time were naked or close to it. Steering them to a quiet spot, we told them that they were fine to stay except what they saw, stayed there. Thankfully, they quickly left but it was funny that the wife wanted to stay but I think her husband was a little freaked out.

Lisabet: When you're writing one of your stories, do you get turned on? Do you have to stop and - um - do something about this?

Larry: Writing turns me on and yes I'm often guilty of abusing myself when writing. I think that's why I like writing at Starbucks or in a fast food restaurant because you can't jerk off and have to focus on writing. Or I'll go and bang wifey. LOL

Lisabet: What do you think is the most erotic thing in the universe?

Larry: Has to be watching two women make love, hands down. I love watching two women together especially when I have my camera or phone. At home, Jack (the security guy in my stories) usually films but he tends to shake the camera if his nympho wife is part of the mix and getting taken care of.

Lisabet: Tell us about Nina The Fallen Ballerina. Where did the idea come from? Where did it take you?

Larry: I've realized that I like to write about the seduction of nice girls and turning them into "good girls." A lot (most) of the girls in my stories are variations of my wife. She's tall, lanky, medium jugs, brunette big hair, and a head turner.

Nina came about from one night when Wifey and her two BBF's went to the Smith Center to watch a play. For all the wild places in Vegas, Smith Center is one of our few places of culture.

That coupled with the fact we had just finished an all-night music concert at the race track where the girls typically dress in tu-tu's and fur boots. This got me on the subject of ballet, and naturally, I started to think about what it would be like to screw someone with a tu-tu on? Then it dawned on me, that ballerinas are typically tiny little things and when I tried to picture Wifey in a tu-tu, I had to laugh. She's almost six feet and would probably make two ballerinas. Then it just followed on Nina would be The Fallen Ballerina, frustrated that she was unable to fulfill her lifelong dream but what could she do?

Then Nina sees an ad for erotic dancers at The Fox's Den and decides to give it a try. She loves to wear sexy clothes and while not sure that she has the nerve to dance naked is willing to see.

Once at the club, Nina falls prey to Linda, the manager, who in real life is a dancer who looks close enough to Wifey to be her twin sister. Nina ends up falling in love with Linda and taking her clothes off. Not necessarily in that order!

Lisabet: Thanks for sharing your secrets with us, Larry. All I can say is, I’d love to come to your New Year’s Party some time...

Get your hands on Nina today!

Meet Ashe ... and her sexy spacemen! (#bookgiveaway #menage #scifiromance @AsheBarker)

I’m delighted to have my friend and blog-mate Ashe Barker visiting today, to tell us a bit about herself and her latest release, Theirs:Found and Claimed. Oh, she has a giveaway at the end, too! ~ Lisabet

Lisabet: How many books have you written? Are they all spanking fiction?

Ashe: I think I have approaching fifty titles out now, and they are all erotic stories. Some are more BDSM themed and some are spanking/domestic discipline. At first I wrote just contemporary stories, then I started adding a few historicals as well, and one paranormal so far. Theirs: Found and Claimed is my third sci-fi and I love writing in this genre.

Why do you enjoy writing sci-fi?

Because I love the idea of playing God. I can create just the world(s) I want, set up whatever social system suits my story, and craft the most amazing characters. The usual laws of physics, time, and cultural behavior don’t count so the story-telling can be much more creative and inventive in an alternative universe. Stories which might be really controversial if written as a contemporary romance can be ‘cloaked’ in a sci-fi.

Do you see writing as a career?

Yes. I try to be fairly ordered about it. I like to be at my desk (well, more accurately the kitchen table) laptop fired up and coffee to hand, by nine in the morning and I tend to write for most of the day then. There are also a lot of related tasks to keep on top of, mainly to do with promo or research, or keeping in touch with readers and other authors. It’s definitely a full-time job for me.

If you could have been told one thing that you weren't told when you were a teenager, what would you like to have heard?

I was given lots of advice as a teenager, much of it unsolicited and not especially good. I think we all have to make our own mistakes, but hopefully I haven’t made the same mistake to many times. That would be sad.

Looking back, I think the most important thing I picked up along the way was that we all have choices, all the time. We’re entitled to choose our own way in life, but we should also be ready to own and accept the consequences of our decisions.

Someone once invited me to cast my mind forward to a time perhaps sixty years from now when I’ll be long-gone and my daughter (currently eighteen) is herself entering old age. Imagine she’s talking to her grandchildren, telling them about me. What would I like her to be saying? My actions now, today, will dictate what those obituaries might be so don’t leave it until later to be the sort of person you want to be remembered as.

If you had to describe yourself using three words, it would be…

Resilient. Creative. Calm.

What would you do if you were the last person on this earth?

Turn out the lights.

And now, onto the information about the book!

Blurb

Who is she? What is she? And what will they do with her?

When they board a derelict spacecraft in search of valuable scrap metal, the last thing Luca and Sylvan expect is to stumble upon a beautiful, naked woman in need of medical assistance. Despite her protests, they bring her back to their ship, treat her illness, and take it upon themselves to look after her.

After she contracted the virus that wiped out her people and killed everyone else on her ship, Llianna didnt expect to survive, and she is shocked when she awakens from a comatose state with two men standing over her. Once she regains her health, however, she is horrified to realize that she is about to enter her fertile period, a uniquely vulnerable time for females of her species.

Knowing that she will end up begging Luca and Sylvan to take her in any way they please if she doesn’t act quickly, she flees in her partially-repaired ship, only to be caught, stripped bare, and spanked soundly. The stern punishment leaves her desire burning even more fiercely, and soon she is writhing in ecstasy as her handsome rescuers claim her hard and thoroughly.

Though Luca and Sylvan make it clear that she is free to go once her ship is finally fully operational again, Llianna finds herself yearning to belong to them completely, and as she learns to submit to their firm, loving dominance, her passion for them grows more intense with each passing day. But when she discovers that she is not the last of her kind after all, will she leave the men she loves to live amongst her own people?

Excerpt (X-Rated)

Am I hurting you?Sylvan is sliding his fingers in and out of my wet pussy, the motion slow, deliberate, utterly seductive. All the while Luca continues to torment my clit, teasing me to a near frenzy then allowing his fingers to slide away until he barely touches me.

I shake my head as I gnaw on my lower lip. This is wonderful, the sensations they are creating are sheer unadulterated bliss, but its torture too. I yearn forsomething, something more. But at the same time I never want this to end.

Thats two fingers. This is three…” Sylvan pulls his fingers out of me again, then carefully parts my pussy lips with his free hand before slipping back inside. The stretch is delicious, the slight burn at my entrance intoxicating. I am aware of every callused centimetre of his long digits as they ease back inside me and my body reshapes to accept them.

Does this hurt? The question is murmured, Sylvans voice low and compelling,or this?He somehow twists his hand within me to change the angle of his penetration. He scissors his fingers, rubbing a spot somewhere on the front wall of my pussy. Everything I was already feeling is intensified, as though white lights explode in my head, behind my eyes. My entire body convulses now and I let out a high-pitched moan.

Luca takes a firm hold on my clit and squeezes hard, pulling as he does so. The pleasure is beyond belief, and seems to rush into that one single place, the very core of my being. Helpless to resist, unable to control my response even if I wanted to, I splinter.

Theres warmth, wetness, even more than before. Sylvans fingers move easily inside me, skilled and accurate, drawing my response out, bringing me back to that shimmering peak again and again. I am floating, my bones liquid, my senses shattered. There is nothing in this universe beyond the amazing sensations exploding at my core then rippling out to fill every extremity of my body.

I lose any sense of time, of space, but that does not matter because they have me. I drift, suspended between reality and some magical, mystical realm beyond, unable to comprehend what has just happened. I settle back down, breathless, and the heady sensations dissipate. I become aware of my surroundings again, and of my still-overwhelming need. The phase is relentless, assuaged only momentarily by the rush of my release. If anything, my need to have Sylvan inside me, fully sheathed within my needy pussy, is greater now, even more compelling.

She just gushed. Were swimming in it down here.Again I do not comprehend Sylvans meaning, but his tone is warm and he seems satisfied with the situation.

Excellent, thatll help. Now would be a good time then…” Luca relinquishes his hold on my clit and reaches for my spread legs. He grips me behind each knee and pulls my thighs wider apart, at the same time tilting me up a little as though to offer me to Sylvan.Relax, sweetheart. Youll love this bit, I promise.

I go limp in Lucas arms as the other male rises up to kneel on the bed. I crane my neck to peer down and watch, detached almost as Sylvan positions his awesome cock at my entrance then begins to press forward. He uses his fingers to part my pussy lips to gain better access, then suddenly the entire head of his cock is inside me. The lips of my pussy are spread wide, stretching around him and I am intensely aware of every intimate detail.

I stiffen, and whimper softly. Lucas breath is on my neck. Are we hurting you?

No,I manage, not hurting. It is justit feels so strange.

Mmm, Ill bet.He nibbles on my earlobe before opening his lips around the skin in the crook of my neck and sucking there. The sensation is almost as erotic as Sylvans slow, steady penetration and I moan quietly.

Sylvan leans forward, his right hand on the bed to support his weight and his left finds my breast. He caresses the lower curve then flicks my nipple with his fingertip. The unexpected stimulation unleashes another rush of sensation and I thrust against him, impaling myself yet more on his solid cock. He sinks in, and the stretch feels near impossible as my body parts to admit him. Then he stops. He has reached the limit, the point beyond which it is not possible to proceed. I chance a quick glance down to see perhaps half his length still visible and I know this is not quite correct. I was right, he is just too large, too—

Aagh!I scream as a searing pain stabs me, momentarily taking my breath away. In that instant Sylvan moves, shifts, and the remainder of his massive cock drives forward to fill me.

It is done, and I am dead.
