A Day in the Life of Irina

By Irina Argo (Guest Blogger)

2:00 AM Dreaming. Arianna is in her cell in despair trying to hang herself (the scene was excluded from the final version) My cat Joy is sleeping on top of the blanket.

5:30 AM. Alarm rings. Getting up, hating the alarm and the world in general as I hate to get up early. Get ready, prepare everything for my husband's needs for the day, take care of him, leave for work.

7:00 AM. Driving to work (1 hour drive). Go into an altered state. Arianna is in despair in her cell trying to hang herself. The scene continues unfolding in my mind. It goes into a loop repeating itself, over and over again.

8:30 AM. At work. My favorite client tried to hang himself last night. My dream was partially manifesting. Go to his cell, talk to him, figure out what happened, resolve the problem, take him to my office, talk again, inspire him with other people’s success stories, removing him from suicide watch as he is fine. Meet with a few more clients for brief sessions, resolve their issues, talk to teachers, talk to staff.

12:00 PM. Time to have a lunch break. We do not go anywhere. There are no restaurants around. We bring our food with us. Sitting in my office eating lunch and writing down the scene I saw in my dream. Emailing it to Jo-An. Run back to my unit.

1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Dealing with two more crises. One client gets extremely agitated; his mother did not come to visit him. To show his protest, he is smearing feces on the wall. Talk to him, give him a phone call, he talks to his mom. The phone rings. Staff demands me on the unit. Another client has flooded his room. Call is made to security, the client is restrained, he yells and screams obscenities. Try to negotiate and communicate with him, no success. He is off his meds. Acute psychosis. Call psychiatrist. He orders meds. Convince the client to take his meds. Put him on suicide watch. Run to the staff meeting.

5:00 PM Need to finish my clinical paper work. Before leaving I check on my client who is on suicide watch. Sleeping. Great. Can go home.

6:30 PM Leave the facility. My clients are still taking up space in my head. Trying to tune them out and attune to the book, no success.

8:00 PM. Back at home. Spend time with my husband and take care of his needs.

10:00 PM Have some time to write. Glass of wine helps to relax. Open to the flow. It flows. Thanks to the Goddess. Half of the chapter is on paper.

12:30 AM. Need to go to bed. One more thing. Read emails from Jo-An. No energy to respond. Tomorrow. Undressed and collapsed into bed. My cat Joy jumps on the pillow. Pick him up and hold him next to me. Sleep. Have a dream about Arianna in her cell

Vampire Elite by Irina Argo
Can the ultimate choice be made if saving your race means destroying the one you love?
At the beginning of the twenty-first century of our era a millennia long war between two immortal races was coming to an end. The Vampire Elite, the strongest among vampires, forced the race of immortal beings, the Amiti to become their blood suppliers, called bloodstock, locking them in their underground cells and treating them like livestock. The surviving free Amiti make a final attempt to strike back. The Queen of Amiti is proclaimed a traitor and is executed. Her death signifies the rise of a new Queen, her young daughter Arianna who becomes the last hope of her dying race. Arianna totally embraces her mission and is ready to fight for her people to the last drop of her blood but encounters an unexpected challenge—the vampire King Tor. They both are captured into a trap of love where they had to make an ultimate choice; to kill the loved one or to let their races die.
Vampire Elite is the epic story of a bitter conflict between two peoples, and the effect of that conflict on everyone living in its grip. The characters are driven to love and betrayal, vengeance and sacrifice in a world without easy black-and-white answers.
Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, packed with action and intrigue, Vampire Elite will pull you into the entrancing world of immortals and open new portals into their hidden universe.
Excerpt

As the auctioneer spoke, two Sekhmi in evening wear—a male carrying an elegant dagger and a female a silver tray covered with glass vials—approached the Amiti girl.
She’s barely eighteen, ladies and gentlemen. That’s a good three years younger than the youngest bloodstock you’ll usually come across. Look at her; she’s stunning, simply stunning, and as you can see, we’ve kept her well conditioned, in excellent health.”
The auctioneer paused as the male Hunter grasped the Amiti’s hand and held it above the tray. The girl showed no resistance, her only display of anxiety the butterfly fluttering of her thick eyelashes. He raised his other hand, and the dagger flashed in the light as with a swift motion he slit the Amiti’s palm. The dark, intoxicating scent of fresh blood filled the room as it poured into the vials.
Simone’s gums began to itch and burn, and she covered her mouth with her hand so no one would see her fangs punching down. It was considered terribly rude to expose one’s fangs in public, even among other vampires. But she needn’t have worried; everyone’s attention was riveted to the stage and the blood flowing from the girl’s wound. The room vibrated with bloodlust and sexual arousal.
The female Sekhmi approached Simone’s table, offering the Royal Pride the first of the blood samples. Knowing that all eyes were on her, Simone forced herself not to hesitate and took a small sip—and was immediately flooded with euphoria.
For this magnificent specimen, we open the bidding at ten million U.S. dollars,” announced the auctioneer.

Irina and Jo-Ann,

Sorry to be so late welcoming you to my blog. I was away for several days.

The premise of your series sounds really intriguing. I'm not surprised at the dark tone of your excerpt, given what you deal with on a daily basis, Irina. Thank you for sharing such an honest slice of your life.
