Sunday Snog 250: Fire in the Blood (#pnr #vampire #mm #giveaway)

Happy Sunday once again!

My Sunday Snog for today, the last Sunday before Halloween, is a dark, searing MM excerpt from my MMF vampire ménage Fire in the Blood.

Leave me a comment with your email address, and I’ll include you in the drawing for a copy of this book.

And don’t forget to visit Victoria’s Sunday Snog central, for more oral action!

You make me hungry, boy,” Etienne spoke softly, but Troy could not mistake the passion that vibrated in his refined voice. “She—she woke my hunger. Now it rages inside me, howling for satisfaction. All my good intentions—my decades of self-denial—brought to naught.”

He loomed over Troy, a massive presence, his huge hands clenched into fists by his side. Troy cringed, sinking into the cushions. He should have trusted his instincts. Etienne was dangerous. At the same time, Troy couldn’t tear his eyes away from those bottomless pools of blackness in the stranger’s face. His cock leaped and struggled, eager for freedom.

I want you,” Etienne growled. Two fingers under Troy’s chin, Etienne tilted Troy’s face up so that their eyes met. The huge palm of his other hand cupped Troy’s erection. Troy nearly shot his wad as the cool weight settled on his hot flesh. Etienne wouldn’t let him look away. “From the feel of it, you want me as well.”

Yes,” Troy managed to gasp, his cheeks burning with shame. “God help me, I want you.”

God?” laughed Etienne without any real mirth. “Do not expect any help from that quarter, petit.”

He tore open Troy’s shorts with such force that the button flew off into the darkness, then yanked the zipper down. Troy’s cock sprang out, the tip grazing Etienne’s silk shirt. Troy struggled for control. Etienne grinned, his lips stretched to reveal his teeth—blinding white, impossibly sharp.

The chair toppled backward. Troy landed on the splintery deck, his legs splayed, his dick waving in the air like an obscene flag. Then Etienne was on top of him, driving the breath out of his lungs. The giant nuzzled Troy’s neck while grinding his pelvis against Troy’s swollen cock. Etienne was hard, too—Troy could feel the unyielding bulk of the black man’s huge erection through the tailored trousers. His butt cheeks clenched as pleasure rippled up his spine. The giant could do anything to Troy, anything he wanted. Troy was powerless to stop him. Even if he wanted to.

Being helpless only made Troy hornier. Etienne nipped at the tender skin under his ear. Troy started at the sudden pain, mashing his cock into Etienne’s hardness. Etienne made a savage sound deep in his throat and reached down to capture Troy’s penis is a vise-like grip. Troy moaned and writhed in Etienne’s hand as the black man pumped him. He felt the needle-sharp points of Etienne’s teeth just pricking his skin. The sensation drove him wild. “More,” he groaned, thrashing under Etienne’s weight. He wanted to know what it would feel like to be pierced, opened, torn apart.

Being taken by Etienne, used for his pleasure, was the most erotic thing he’d ever experienced. He hovered on the edge, tension coiled in his balls, blood pulsing in his captive cock, waiting for Etienne to consume him. The world was blurry and gray around him. Etienne’s chill fingers, Etienne’s mouth, Etienne’s massive cock—these were his only realities.

But reality shifted. The other man pulled back to kneel between Troy’s thighs, still gripping Troy’s rod. Troy whimpered in disappointment. Etienne gave an evil chuckle. “Don’t worry, petit. I am not giving up. Your jacques is just too delicious to ignore.”

He bent over Troy’s prone form. Troy watched Etienne’s back muscles shift, straining the fine cloth of his shirt. Ghost-cold flesh flickered over Troy’s knob, making him groan. Then his whole cock was submerged in ice water.

He went rigid with shock. Acute delight sliced through him, fierce as pain. An arctic whirlpool caught him, sucking and pulling at his heated flesh. The cum rose in his stalk, brought to a boil by Etienne’s frigid mouth.

He didn’t fight; Etienne had stripped away all choice. Troy just let go. Violent shudders rocked his body as he poured his cum down the other man’s throat. Every nerve sparked, a thousand sensations building into a storm of pleasure that thundered around him.

As the tempest ebbed, when he thought that he’d known every possible variant of pleasure, he felt Etienne’s teeth enter his flesh, and he knew that he had been wrong.

Review Tuesday: A Variety of Chains by Christine Blackthorn (#review #pnr #vampire)

A Variety of Chains by Christine Blackthorn
Sinful Press, 2016

Kathryn McClusky is an ErGer—a mortal woman with a rare mutation which makes her blood addictive to vampires and predisposes her to bond mentally and sexually with blood drinkers. Since she discovered her nature as an adolescent, she has been a fugitive, fleeing the cruelty of greedy immortals for whom she is both a drug and a political asset. With nothing but her wits and her courage, she has managed to protect her small family over the years— two adopted sisters, a mysterious daughter, and her wastrel older brother Paul. When Paul is captured by the vampire Lord Lucian, Kathryn believes she has no choice but to offer herself to the Lord in order to buy her brother’s freedom.

Lucian Neben has lived for more than six hundred years. With intelligence, patience and raw power, he rules the vampires of London and maintains a balance between the worlds of the humans and the Fey. Yet all his power cannot provide what he most fervently desires—an escape from the lonely isolation that is the immortal’s destiny.

The exhausted and scarred woman who delivers herself into his hands offers him new hope that he might actually experience the joys of companionship and family. Before that can happen, though, he must penetrate the layers of suspicion and bitter resignation that armor her spirit. Given her ErGer nature, he could force her into an unbreakable psychic bond. Indeed, this is the counsel of his closest advisers. However, Lucian understands that this would destroy what he most craves, that he must coax Kathryn to voluntarily surrender her mind and heart to him as she already surrendered her body.

I had very mixed feelings about this book. On the positive side, Ms. Blackthorn succeeds brilliantly in bringing Kathryn to life. Abused and hunted for years, Kathryn trusts no one but herself, nothing but her evil destiny. Only her fierce concern for her family keeps her alive. She constantly tests the limits of her bargain with Lucian, allowing him only what she has explicitly promised. Her extremely gradual thaw in the face of Lucian’s patience and physicality struck me as plausible.

Lucian, however, is such a stereotyped vampire romance hero that I wanted to scream. Where are his faults? His weaknesses? He is of course what Kathryn needs, a man of strength and honor, but he’s really too good to be true.

I understand intellectually that vamp heroes have to be strong, magnetically attractive and sexually skilled. But why are they all into S&M? In the case of this book, I felt this did not ring true. The whips, the bonds, the blindfold, and the butt plugs seemed to have been inserted into the story only to satisfy the current craze for kinky erotic romance. Lucian doesn’t need them to coax Kathryn into loving him. Much as I adore BDSM, I honestly feel this story would have been more effective without these trappings. The struggle between Lucian and Kathryn is fundamentally about trust, which is definitely at the heart of a D/s relationship, but the toys Lucian imposes upon his ErGer reduced rather than enhanced the emotional impact of that struggle, at least for me.

It's credible that Lucian would be so entranced by Kathryn. He’s insightful enough to see her remarkable strength, facile mind and tenacious grip on life, in the face of almost insurmountable obstacles. Since she is mortal, however, I would assume he cannot keep her as his companion without killing her to make her a vampire. Lucian doesn’t seem to consider this issue at all, which struck me as odd.

I also found the premise of the book a bit silly—in particular the notion that an ErGer will be ripe for bonding only on February 14th.

Set against these somewhat negative observations, I have to praise Ms. Blackthorn’s writing style. Reading the chapters told from Kathryn’s perspective, I truly felt her despair, her anger and her confusion.

I am not sure how to wrap up this review. I had a variety of reactions to A Variety of Chains. I found the relatively slow pace of the book frustrating but at the same time I’m very curious to discover what will happen in the next volume of the series. I really don’t know whether to recommend the book or not.

I guess you’ll have to read it, and decide for yourself.

Lust on the Fells: Landscapes (@kd_grace #mm #pnr #erotica)

Blurb

Vampire Alonso Darlington has a disturbing method of keeping landscaper, Reese Chambers, both safe from and oblivious to his dangerous lust for the man. But Reese isn’t easy to keep secrets from, and Alonso wants way more than to admire the man from afar. Can he risk a real relationship without risking Reese’s life? And if Reese finds out the truth, will there be any relationship left to risk?

Note: Landscapes was released as part of the Brit Boys: On Boys boxed set.

Excerpt

It wasn’t that Reese Chambers made my cock hard – though he did. It wasn’t that he was beautiful in a rugged, leather and stone sort of way – though he was. It was that Reese Chambers moved me in ways I had not been moved in a very long time, in ways that I, who never lacked just the right words to express myself, found my vocabulary inadequate to the task. Talia would call it an obsession, and maybe it was; from my first sight of him mantling his sketchpad like a bird of prey over a fresh kill, alone in the midst of the crowded pub, I could think of nothing else. It was my first night back on British soil. It is said that you can never go back home, and it had been a very long time for me. But the need to come home was in my blood like fever these past years, as were so many needs that never left me, but only sharpened with the passing of time.

Next to me, Talia droned on about suitable residences in Cumbria, about the leasing of a car and the making of necessary renovations. The Two Dogs was busy for a Monday night with tourist season past, but being invisible was sometimes easier in a crowd.

***

Find out who he is.’ I nodded in Reese’s direction. Before Talia could protest, I continued. ‘I have a roof over my head, and I’ve fed. There’s nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow.’

Talia’s cheekbones flushed with the rush of blood, and heaven knew how beautiful she was in such a state, porcelain pale skin, midnight blue eyes and hair, which was so close to black that no one but I would have noticed all of the other colours in her silken tresses. She knew what it was I asked of her, and she knew the delicate line she tread on the rare occasion when I did ask. A tremor passed up her long, straight spine, and a bloom of tiny goose bumps textured her bare arms. It would not be painless, what I asked, and I knew she feared it as much as she longed for it. I could hear the thud thud of her pulse in the thin, silken skin of her throat as she swallowed the sudden dryness of fear. ‘What do you want to know?’

I leaned forward to rake the tip of my thumb against the pulse point in her temple. ‘Everything, Talia. I want to know all of it. And when you know, come directly to me. I don’t care what time it is when you return.’

*****

It was nearing dawn when Talia returned to our accommodations smelling of sex, as I knew she would if she were to obtain for me what I wanted. By then my blood burned in my veins, and my body felt too close to me, as though the flesh that I dwelt in suddenly conspired to crush me with its demands. And though I knew that Reese Chambers could not have refused her even if she had come to him as a toothless, foul-smelling hag, I hated her that he had poured himself into her body while I had been left with only my fantasies kindling my lust to an inferno.

Though my need was such that my flesh was fevered and my cock an insistent throb, until she returned, I held myself contained within skin that felt too thin. When she saw the state that I was in, she pulled the heavy drapes with an efficient tug, then with a nod of her head, motioned me to follow her down into the basement room that had been prepared for me. When she turned to me at the foot of the bed, before she could opened her kiss-bruised lips to speak, I took her mouth, starving for the first taste of him, the taste of his saliva, the taste of his blood, mixed with hers. She’d bitten him; he’d bitten her back. He was rough, and he liked to be treated rough, but he kept that to himself. He was embarrassed by it. His lips were slightly chapped from so much time in the sun and wind, and they’d slid against hers, suckling and stroking and pressing until her mouth opened to his. With ravenous laps of my tongue, I tasted him in her mouth, and she held back the moan of response, so I could hear the echoes of his groans, heavy with need he’d not satisfied in awhile, and I felt kinship in my own unsatisfied needs. Images of him flashed through my head. Christ, his eyes were green, dark green like the evergreen forests of the north, and he kept them open when he kissed her, taking her in with his eyes.

I shoved aside the silk of her low bodice exposing her breasts, breasts that his hands had cupped. My nipples peeked to sharp aching points at the feel of his calloused thumbs raking, pressing and releasing. I breathed in his scent on her breasts, burying my face in her cleavage, licking the taste of salty, slightly picante maleness, sniffing and tasting until I could stand it no more. In one violent jerk, I tore the dress all the way down and shoved it off her shoulders, away from the flesh he had licked and kissed and mounted. I cried out at the feel of him, weight on one elbow, knee spreading her thighs, fingers opening her heaviness, anxious to penetrate, anxious to relieve his need. And then, with Talia free of clothing, Reese Chambers’ essence filled the room. Talia’s panties were still wet with his semen mixed with her humid desire, and I tore them from her and forced her onto her stomach, onto her hands and knees, so that it was not her face I saw, but his that I imagined. With hands on her hips, I raised her bottom in the air and spread her still swollen, still slippery folds with fingers made awkward by my arousal, letting the scent of his hot bread and honey release intoxicate me. Then I buried my face in her snatch and, as I ate his lust from her, I knew him.

He was Cumbrian born and bred, and his accent was the soft lilting sound of the fells. He was a landscaper and a gardener by trade. His hands held the magic of the earth and his mind conceived ideas for beautiful outdoor spaces; those he liked best were patterned after Renaissance and medieval gardens. He was homesick and heartsick. He’d gone to Surrey to work with his father because the money was good. But his father had died recently and he had returned home to Cumbria. He didn’t care if he had to work in a pub or muck stables. He wanted to be home. He missed the people and he missed the fells. He missed the simpler, more honest rhythms of life. He was shy, even a bit reclusive. He read voraciously and widely, he liked astronomy and he was afraid of snakes, though it embarrassed him to admit it. He hadn’t had sex in a long time, and found it better to have a wank session than a meaningless encounter. The facts of him, the details of his life raced at me in a flood I consumed ravenously with each lap of my tongue.

As I ate Talia I felt the shape of his face, the curve of his chin, the rise and fall of his chest as he had done the same. I felt the soft tuft of bronze curls nestled between the hard rise of his pecs and the courser, deeper curls that caressed his testicles and his cock when it was at rest, but it hadn’t been at rest. How many times had he taken her? He was thick enough to fill her and the friction of him inside was delicious and maddening. The shape of him – I wanted to caress the shape of him, with my hands, with my mouth, and the taking of his essence from Talia was an act of ripping away something that should have been mine. As I bruised her arse with kneading fingers and, as I licked the last of his release from her, she managed a breathless moan. ‘Take the rest. God, Alonso, take the rest, and release me.’

Hot Vampires! Crimson Bond Give-away!

By Tamsin Flowers (Guest Blogger)

2013 has been quite a year for me - I would have to say that it's been my first full year as a published writer of erotica. Prior to this, I'd had a couple of stories released in anthologies but during the past 12 months, things have really started to take off. My work has featured in a number of Cleis Press anthos, I've had two novellas published and I've self-published my own short story collection. And, wow, what a ride! It's been something of a steep learning curve, not least in terms of marketing my work. This is so essential for writers today and can take up a lot of time - but the connection I'm starting to make with people who've enjoyed my writing makes it all worthwhile. And to say thank you everyone who follows my blog tours and reads my books, I'll be giving away a copy of my latest release, The Crimson Bond. If you're interested in winning, just leave a comment below, with your email address, and I'll make a random pick on Monday.

In the meantime, enjoy this excerpt from the story - an eternal triangle between three passionate and wayward vampires.

Happy Christmas,

Tamsin

Blurb

Willow Jackson develops an unhealthy obsession Etienne Corbeau; little does she realise he's a suave, sophisticated vampire. After he appears in her dreams, Willow is astounded to find Etienne in her room for real and even more shocked when, in the throes of a passion she can’t resist, he sinks his teeth into her neck and drinks her blood.

But Etienne is greedy and to save Willow's life, his wife Elouise forces her to drink vampire blood. From this moment Willow is herself a vampire, forming an unbreakable bond with Elouise which forces her to choose between the beautiful new vampire and her husband of two centuries.

As Willow learns to tame her bloodlust and vampire sex carries her to new heights of physical pleasure, Elouise is snatched away from her.  The battle lines are drawn: now she and Etienne will fight for possession of the woman they both love...

Excerpt

Don’t be angry with me, Willow,” he said. “Your effect on me is so strong I can’t control myself when you’re around.”

That much was true and it was a feeling Willow had come to understand.

Even now? Now I’m a vampire like you?”

Etienne brushed a hand down her jaw with unexpected tenderness.

More now, Willow.”

His body was close to hers and as he looked down at her face his warm breath tickled her cheeks. She breathed in deeply to catch the scent of him and it didn’t disappoint. Low in her gut, muscles tightened and a shiver ran through her.

Your bond with Elouise doesn’t stop you…” Her voice was ragged and she didn’t know how to finish what she intended to say.

A vampire’s bond is mental, rather than physical.” His voice was low, practically a whisper.

She felt his hand on her breast, warm through the thin cotton of her T-shirt. Her knees turned to water and as she slumped against him, he lowered her gently to the ground. She was weak with lust, so overpowering she could hardly breath. But it was different from the bloodlust she felt when she was close to the girls on the ranch. This feeling, burning in her loins and spreading through her body, was a pure, sexual need—the full expression of the mere glimmers she’d experienced when she was still human and she’d lusted after him from afar.

Etienne…”

They were both kneeling, facing each other. He pulled at the bottom of her T-shirt and she obligingly lifted her arms as he pulled it up over her head. His every touch felt like a burn on her skin but it was a sensation she couldn’t get enough of. As soon as her arms were free of the shirt, she tore at his, not caring as the buttons flew off and landed in the long grass.

She pressed her body against his, her softness against the firm, rough surface of his chest. She gasped and once again their mouths locked together. He tasted sweet and she felt a compulsion to make herself one with him, her tongue thrusting deep as her body pressed harder still against the length of his. His hands raked through her hair and drew her head back, angling her mouth all the better against his. Then she felt a hand dropping down her back and sliding under the waistband of her jeans. The sensation of his firm hand sliding down her cheek, one finger straying along the crack between her buttocks, elicited a low groan, deep in her throat, and she raked her nails down his back.

With a cry that might have been pain or pleasure or both, Etienne pushed her roughly back onto the grass. His hands scrabbled desperately at the fastening of her jeans and, seconds, later he ripped them down her thighs, scraping them over her knees and off. He buried his face between her legs, taking deep, rasping breaths of her scent, and then she felt his fingers prying their way into her willing sex. Her lips slipped open with a rush of hot juice and Etienne grunted as first his fingers explored her deeply and then his tongue found its way inside her.

Willow writhed beneath his touch but fought the sensations threatening to sweep her away. She longed to feel all of him inside her, so she reached down to his shoulders to pull him up.

He shook off her grasp and lifted his head to look at her.

You can have both,” he whispered, his fingers still drumming a magical rhythm deep inside her.

I want everything,” she said, returning his gaze.

It’s all yours.”

Sunday Snog #91: Fire in the Blood

Greetings, readers!

I took a trip back in time looking for my snog today, looking for a juicy kiss to share with you. Today's offering is from my 2010 M/M/F vampire ménage, Fire in the Blood.

Maddy and Troy hope that a carefree vacation in tropical Jamaica will re-ignite the passion in their five year relationship. On a scenic mountain trail ride, Maddy's horse bolts and carries her deep into the jungle. Injured and lost, she is saved by a seductive giant of a man whose mere presence kindles unbearable lust. By the time she understands his dark nature, it is far too late for her to escape.

Bitter and alone, Etienne de Rémorcy haunts the forest around the ruined plantation of Fin d'Espoir. He has sworn to never again taste taste human blood, but when slender, raven-haired Madeleine begs him to take her, he cannot resist.

Troy is hugely relieved when Maddy makes her way back to their hotel after her ordeal in the mountains. But he finds her greatly changed - fiercely passionate in bed, restless and disturbed at other times. The tall, elegant stranger he meets on the beach holds the key to her transformation - and soon has seduced Troy as well.  Even Etienne's most potent magic can't extinguish the fire in Troy's and Madeleine's blood.

After you've finished with my snog, head on back to Blisse Kiss Central for more delicious kisses. And get ready for Victoria's huge 100th Sunday Snog blog hop, starting on the 22nd of September. Dozens of authors, dozens of prizes - just for enjoying our kisses!

By the time she got back to the hotel, it was past noon. The manager of the stable looked more relieved to see his horse than its rider. With a combination of pleas and threats, Maddy succeeded in convincing him to give her a lift back to the resort. She knocked on the door of the room, not wanting to shock Troy too badly. Nevertheless, he gave a little yelp when he saw her standing there, filthy, sweaty and smeared with dried blood.

“Maddy! Oh God, you’re okay!” He held her tightly to his chest, as though he was afraid she’d vanish. “I was so worried. We tried to follow your horse, but we couldn’t see anything in the storm… The guide wouldn’t go into the woods after it got dark, no matter how much I offered to pay. The police just smiled and had me fill in a report, but other than that, they haven’t done a damned thing. ‘She’ll come back,’ they kept saying. ‘No problem, man.’”

“Well, I guess in some sense they were right.” Maddy buried her face in Troy’s neck, breathing his fresh, clean scent. His body was warm and hard against hers. She relaxed into his strength as he stroked her hair and murmured endearments. He raised her face to his and started to nibble at her bruised lips.

He felt so incredibly good. Her nipples peaked under her shirt. Moisture gathered between her thighs. She rubbed her chest against his. The friction sent sparks skittering from her breasts down to her sex. He captured her in a deep kiss. She forced her tongue into his mouth, relishing the familiar peppermint flavour of his toothpaste.

Troy groaned, responding to her sudden ardour. She groped blindly between his legs, seeking the swelling bulk she knew she’d find there. He was hard already, his cock straining against his zipper. With dexterity borne of practice, she unbuttoned his waistband and opened his fly. His eager erection sprang out into her waiting hand.

She stroked up and down his rigid shaft, swirling her thumb across the slippery bulb each time she reached the tip. He moaned into her mouth, jerking back and forth inside her circling fingers. He seemed bigger and harder than normal. His velvet-soft skin sheathed a pillar of stone.

Maddy broke the kiss. Still holding Troy’s penis, she pulled her jersey over her head with the other hand. The fabric caught for a moment on her distended nipples. Pleasure arced through her. Liquid welled up in her cunt.

“I want you.” Her voice was husky with lust. “Now.” Using his cock like a handle, she dragged him to the bed and pushed him down onto his back. He lay there, his cock bobbing, obviously fascinated by her uncommon passion, as she struggled to remove her shorts.

The sweat-damp fabric stuck to her skin. Her clit beat inside the crotch like a fiery heart. Frustrated and impatient, she tugged hard. The garment tore away from her hips and fluttered to the floor, a useless rag.

Maddy didn’t care. She crawled onto the bed and straddled Troy’s rampant cock. With a throaty growl, she sank down onto his body, impaling herself. Troy arched towards her, meeting her halfway. Hands on his shoulders, she forced him back against the pillow. “Let—me—ride—you,” she managed to gasp, driving his cock deeper into her cunt with each word. She clenched his swollen stalk and ground her clit against his pubic bone. Fierce pleasure raged through her.

Troy reached for her breasts, moulding their fullness with both hands. He brushed his fingertips across her taut nipples. “Harder,” she growled between clenched teeth as she bounced up and down on his cock. Her lover obeyed, capturing and pinching the tight knots between his thumb and forefinger. She moaned her encouragement. He dug his fingernails into her flesh. The pain added a high note to the symphony of sensation ringing through her body.

Vampires in Kilts: What's Not to Love?

By Suz De Mello (Guest Blogger)

Friday marks the publication of my sixteenth novel, Desire in Tartan. It’s the sequel to my best-selling Temptation in Tartan, but works well as a stand-alone though it’s part of my multi-book series, Highland Vampires.

How did I come to write a series about Scottish vampires?

I sold a short story, Highland Vampire, to Harlequin Spice Briefs in 2009. Buoyed by this success, I decided to write a related novel. HV is a contemporary erotic romance, and I couldn’t see a sequel. Futuristic Scottish vampires are beyond my imagination! So my sequels are prequels, as J.R.R. Tolkien might say.

One related novel became three with another planned, as well as a couple more short stories that are available—a list of the Highland Vampire stories with links appears at the end of this blog.

Set in 1759, Desire in Tartan follows the romance of Dugald Kilburn and the woman he hires as a governess to Laird Kilburn’s children. Innocent Alice Derwent is unaware she has been hired by a vampire clan to tutor their children, and must struggle to adjust to life in the Highlands, as well as to Dugald’s rough loving—there’s more than a hint of BDSM in this book. Here’s a snippet:

“Ye closed yer eyes, didn’t ye?”

Alice awakened to find herself face down, stretched out on the bed next to her husband, who was idly playing with strands of her hair. Occasionally he’d slide cool fingertips down her spine and burrow into the crevice between her bottom-cheeks, which felt damp and sticky. His seed?

She wasn’t going to answer that question. ‘Twould be foolish. Instead she said, “You seem quite interested in my bum, sir.”

“Answer me question.” He slapped her lightly, which didn’t sting.

“I, er, I…”

He spanked her harder, which did sting. “Answer. Now.”

“Um, yes.”

“Well, well, well.” Each word was punctuated by a slap. “Ye do ken that you must obey yer husband, do ye not?”

She gasped. “Ye-es, I do.”

“And yet, ye closed yer eyes when I specifically told you ‘no.’” Another six slaps, delivered briskly, three on each cheek.

“Ow!” The spanks stung, and heat bloomed, sinking toward her quim.

He set both palms on her and squeezed. She moaned and wriggled. She shoved one hand beneath her, questing for her bump.

“That’s right, kylyrra. Play with yerself… This stirs ye, does it not?”

She nodded.

“Answer me.” He striped her thighs with a series of quick, harsh slaps.

“Yes! Yes!” She writhed beneath his hand, wishing he’d stop, wishing he’d play with her body forever.

“Good.” He stopped and rolled off the bed then went to the door.

“You’re going to leave me like this?” She was a ball of frustration. A stinging, sore ball of frustration.

He looked back at her and laughed. “It’s time to dress for dinner. I’m orderin’ us a bath.”

Alice scrambled to cover up.

***

One of the difficulties I encountered was that when I started the series, I had not visited Scotland for several decades. Though I was pretty sure that the Highlands hadn’t changed much, I initially refreshed my memories via the internet, but managed to get “across the pond” in October 2010, and that trip was really helpful. I bought the postcard of a painting by Alexander Nasmyth that looks exactly like the Kilburn Castle of my imagination—the real place is called Tantallon Castle. I saw a famous painting of a skater that inspired a skating scene in Desire. Walking around Glasgow, where the first scenes in the book were set, brought them to vivid reality as I imagined the lives of those who’d worked, loved, brawled and drank there 250 years ago.

And merely seeing the Highlands was inspirational. I’m deeply affected by the places I visit, and many end up as settings in my novels. I once wrote a book set in Alaska while on a cruise there—if you ever have an opportunity to see Alaska, go—it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen, and I travel a lot.

Oddly, although I’ve spent substantial time in Asia, I’ve never written a novel set there. Britain inspires me more than any other place.

I hope that some of the love I have for that magical island shows up in some of my stories. Here’s the Highland Vampires series—just those that are currently available—more stories are in the works, including a medieval, a Regency and a steampunk.
