To Protect and Serve – D/s Style
By Amy Valenti (Guest Blogger)
Dominance and Deception’s protagonist is a homicide detective named Zach Pierce. He’s sworn to protect and serve within the police force, but does that mean a little more to Zach than to his colleagues?
Zach’s a Dom, and his oath gets a little more personal when it comes to protecting his submissive, forensic scientist Faye Tate. As well as shielding her from criminals, he takes it upon himself to protect her on an intimate level, ensuring that Faye trusts him to respect her limits within their BDSM games. In return, she serves him – kneels at his feet and obeys his every command.
Well… most of them. Faye can be a little bit of a handful, which Zach finds out very quickly…
***
Obediently, Faye writhed on the bed, tugging at the handcuffs that restrained her wrists and the silk scarves I’d used to tie her ankles to the bedposts.
“Can’t, Sir,” she said, half smiling, half apprehensive, as if she was unsure whether the response would lead to reward or punishment. Hell, with Faye, the punishment usually was the reward.
I didn’t keep her in suspense. “Good.”
When I brought the riding crop up into her line of sight, her eyes widened and she bit her lip, a shiver of anticipation thrilling through her body. I paused for a second, giving her time to back out if she needed to, making no attempt to hide the way my eyes swept over every part of her.
“Are you ready?”
She swallowed hard, her eyes on the crop. Shaking a tendril of damp hair from her cheek before answering, she nodded, her words just barely whispered.
“Yes, Sir.”
The way she submitted, unquestioning, to my authority made me want to throw aside the crop right then. I needed to be inside her, needed to hear her beg for release, needed to lose control completely. But not yet. The scene had yet to be played out.
Faye looked from the crop to my face, and from the slight upward quirk of her eyebrow I could tell she’d caught on to my train of thought.
“Or we could just…” she said softly, shifting seductively against the mattress.
Snapped back into my role, I stared her out until she stilled and broke eye contact.
A flicker of amusement remained in her voice as she conceded, “I’m sorry, Sir. I was outta line.”
“You’re damn right,” I said, and without warning cracked the crop down onto her breast, just below the nipple.
She yelled with combined pleasure and pain, attempting to suppress the grin on her face.
I paused to let the blow register, knowing she was hardly even trying to be properly submissive. Most of the time, she let it wash over her, sinking so far into the state that it took time for her to come back from it. Tonight she was in a playful mood of a completely different kind—cheerfully insolent and willing to take all the punishment I could mete out. I already knew she’d let me whip her until she was sore all over, then defy me for just a little longer, setting her tolerance for pain against my willingness to give it.
I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge.
Faye looked down at the red mark rising on her flesh, then up at me. “That the best you can do, Sir?”
I raised the crop, never letting my pissed-off façade slip. “I haven’t even started—”
Faye’s phone rang, the unexpected sound disorientating us both. She groaned, scowling at the offending object as if it was sentient.
“Damn it! Not now!” She tugged expectantly at her handcuffs. “Okay, let me out of these.”
I stood there, impassive, and she rolled her eyes.
“Zach, seriously. Someone’s probably dead and we’ll have to go to work.”
***
It’s not that Faye’s a bad submissive, exactly – she just likes to test the boundaries, to know that if she steps out of line, there’s a consequence. Not to mention that stepping out of line occasionally yields very lucrative rewards…
Although Zach’s the Dom in the relationship, he learns that protecting and serving on a D/s level goes both ways – at one point, literally! His unruly sub takes an offer of carte blanche and turns it to her own advantage, pulling a switch scene on her Dom, and Zach goes from protecting and serving the citizens of the city to ‘serving’ Faye in a very different way. Mostly with his tongue. ;)
What’s a Dom to do, once he’s out of the handcuffs, at least? The punishment has to fit the crime – and a little sexual revenge never hurts anyone past their safeword limits.
Not only that, but Faye’s idea of service sometimes stretches to unusual limits. When she finds out that a male colleague of theirs is into kink, too, she suggests a little M/M/F action might be just what they need! Once Tommy Santoro comes into their bed, Zach gets about as much service as he can handle, as well as a good amount of kinky voyeurism…
But it’s not all fun and games – there’s an angstier, more dangerous tone to the final third of the novel. How far will Zach go to protect Faye, and how far is too far? You’ll have to read Dominance and Deception to find out!

Bio
Amy Valenti is a tarnished tease, and her mind has lived in the gutter since the day she realised what sex was. She hails from England, which she doesn’t find quite as exotic and sexy as the average US citizen seems to, but if people want to compliment her on her accent, that’s all fine with her! Her muses are many, fickle and very demanding.
She has a degree in creative writing and currently works as a proofreader/copy editor. In her free time, she reads, writes and plays video games. On the rare occasions she doesn’t have a laptop on her knee, she loves to curl up with friends and pets – and chocolate – for TV show and movie marathons.

Let the Sex Games Begin!
By Amy Valenti (Guest Blogger)
I’ll come straight out with it. I’ve been writing about sex since I first found out what sex was. Before that, I wrote about kissing. For some reason, my mind has lived in the gutter since I can remember, and I never seem to be able to pull it out of there for long! Needless to say, these days I need to think creatively to avoid just repeating the same sex scene over and over again.
It almost feels like too early in the day to be talking about my upcoming release, Battle of Thrills. It’s due out on September 26th, and will be followed by Dominance and Deception on October 10th. I don’t even have pre-order links yet – but I figured I’d throw out a few sexy titbits now. Smutty goodness brightens up everyone’s day, right?
The Rules
So, what can I say? Battle of Thrills revolves around a sexual game between friends and co-workers who have yet to become lovers – a game with only one rule. Tease. Tempt. Tremble… but don’t touch.
No touching, but everything else is fair game. Descriptive conversations, longing looks, even getting naked – it’s all allowed, and over one desire-filled week, Jared and Elle try to push each other past the limits of their self-control…
Types of Sex Game
So what exactly makes us drawn to sex games? We have literal games – Spin the Bottle, strip poker… how about naked Twister? Then we have dominance and submission, which can be right up the other end of the scale, as a 24/7 lifestyle choice.
Spin the Bottle is a game of chance. D/s is a game of control. What, then, is the Battle of Thrills in the title of my own little creation?
Obviously, it’s a battle of wills – hence the play on words in the title. Willpower and anticipation are the two main ingredients in the game, and let’s throw in a little imagination, too. The trick to the Battle of Thrills is to make the other person give in to their desire before you do.
Here’s an excerpt from the book:
Elle moved over to the mats set aside for post-workout stretches, and Jared wandered over after a few minutes, gazing down at her without bothering to hide his appraisal. “Enjoy your workout?”
She made a show of checking him out from head to toe before replying. “Yup. Not as much as I would have if you’d lost your shirt at some point, though.”
She finished her last floor stretch and got to her feet. When her eyes met Jared’s again, she was shocked at the desire she saw there. It was as if he couldn’t hide how much he wanted her, and electricity quivered down her spine as his hands balled into fists, his body tensing with the effort of keeping himself still.
Elle took a step closer, so he could feel her breath on his neck as she whispered, “All that post-workout adrenaline and nowhere to channel it, Jared?”
He closed his eyes for a second, as if gathering enough willpower to resist her, before stepping away. “When this is over, Elle…” he growled, and headed in the direction of the locker rooms.
Swallowing down a plea for him to forget the game, she followed him down the deserted corridor connecting the gym to the showers, answering with all the nonchalance she could muster. “You’re gonna what? Fuck me good and hard?”
He didn’t slow down until he reached the doorway, but then he turned to face her, pulling off his shirt. Pausing for a couple of seconds to allow her to get an eyeful of his firm chest and abs, he told her, “Something like that.”
Before she could compose herself enough to respond, he was gone.
The Reward
So, why not just dispense with the games and just get it on, already?
Everyone knows good things come to those who wait… and while you wait, there are so many different possible outcomes a creative mind can dream up. Not to mention encounters to be savoured and remembered in private, provocative outfits to be worn, new visual and aural torments to devise…
And then, finally, after hours or days of deliciously frustrated anticipation, the release is all the sweeter when it comes. If you’re the winner, you have the added bonus of the victory, but if not, who cares? You’ll have just had the sex of your life!
Aftermath
I don’t know if anyone has actually played this game, or if it has a name. It’s just something I dreamed up one day, and I naturally had to write about it. Let me know if you’ve heard of it before – I’ll be interested to hear about it. :)
You can find Jared’s character profile – and a further excerpt from Battle of Thrills – on my blog: http://amyvalenti.wordpress.com/2011/07/27/introducing-jared-lancaster/ I’m also on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AmyValenti and Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AmyValentiErotica
Look out for Battle of Thrills at the end of next month!
Big thanks to Lisabet for giving me a guest spot. :)

Cat Shifters and Sunbathers - My July Newsletter!
Welcome! Thanks for taking time off from your sun-bathing, swimming, barbecues and other summer fun to check out my latest news. With free reads, contests and lots more, I hope you'll find it's worth a few minutes.
New and Upcoming Releases
No new releases this month, but I've gotten word that Total-E-Bound has accepted my paranormal novella Hot Spell for release in November. By that time, we'll need a sizzling story set during a heat wave! I'll be posting a blurb and excerpt soon.
Probably my biggest news this month is the fact that my extra-terrestrial ménage tale, Bodies of Light got a five cherryreview from Whipped Cream and then was voted Book of the Week. Part of the prize was a free book video from GoddessFish Promotions. Check it out! I really love the music.
In her review, Clematis wrote:
What a wonderfully refreshing and original sci-fi erotic romance. My only complaint would be that I finished it -- I wanted to keep on reading!...New to Lisabet Sarai's work, I was pleasantly surprised and am full of nothing but praise for Bodies of Light.
You can read the whole review here
I've been working on the edits for my novella Wild About That Thing, which will be released in September as part of the Treble anthology. This is a realistic contemporary tale about a single mother struggling against the odds to fulfill her dream. Have you read the excerpt yet? The story's full of my favorite blues tunes -- not to mention some of my favorite sexual fantasies.
Last, but hardly least, I recently learned that my story "Clean Slate" will be included in the anthology Best Lesbian Romance 2012, put together by awarding winning author and editor Radclyffe. I think this will be coming out in November of 2011.
Other News
I'm blogging on July 20th at K.D. Grace's place, talking about "the story behind the story" of my BDSM romance The Understudy. It's not exactly a true tale, but it borrows a good deal from my own history. I'm also blogging today as usual at Hitting the Hot Spot on the topic of naked recreation. Seems like a good topic for summer! Drop by and say hello!
I've put my article from Savvy Authors up in the For Authors section of my website. If you missed my essay "What Comes Next? Building Suspense and Avoiding Predictability", you can find it here.
Your wish is my command. Last month, in an entry to my "Story Suggestions" contest, one reader asked for a cat shifter story. You'll find the result, "Cat Toy", up on my free reads page. This is the first chapter of what will probably be a longer work. I hope you like it. I'm centering my contest this month on the story. You have a chance to win your own toy - or something else sexy and sensual!
"Quarantine" is up to about 35K. Unfortunately, my evil day job has been stealing a lot of my writing time. Actually, that's not fair - I love my day job. But I am getting a bit frustrated that it's taking me so long to tell Dylan's and Rafe's story.
Thanks to everyone who entered my Bodies contest. Most respondents had fairly specific preferences when it came to male characters, but quite a few told me that the body type of the female character didn't matter nearly as much. One person wrote "It's refreshing to read of women who are curvy". Another commented "The women I'm not as picky about because I usually replace her with myself anyway in my mind." "Variety" and "please, not perfect" were other common sentiments. Since I rarely write unbelievably gorgeous characters, I was reassured!
Congratulations to Melissa, who was my randomly selected winner! She won a copy of my "Best Book of the Week" Bodies of Light.
My contest this month is a bit different. The prize is a $25 gift certificate from sex toy emporium EdenFantasys. If you're not into sex toys, EdenFantasys also sells lingerie, videos and DVDs, and lots of sexy books, including many of written by or including stories by me.
Kayla from EdenFantasys contacted me a few weeks ago, offering to sponsor my monthly contest, if I'd say a few words about their site. When I asked Kayla what she wanted me to write, she left that totally up to me. So I spent some time browsing around - more time than I'd planned, in fact, because, to be honest, I was having a great time.
I discovered that EdenFantasys is not just a woman-friendly, sex-positive adult products vendor. It seems to be a true community. They have an active set of forums (I had to tear myself away from the BDSM topics!), reviews by real people offering honest opinions, member workshops (I saw one listed on cake-decorating!), an interactive book club (who just happened to be discussing a book that includes one of my stories - obviously they have excellent taste!), and much more. My sampling suggested that the community is large, active, knowledgeable and generally articulate. After half an hour or so exploring, my reaction was, "Wow! A place to connect with kindred spirits. I've got to join!" My second reaction was, "Oh no, another Internet venue to suck up my scarce time!"
I decided to join anyway.
So - what do you need to do in order to win this gift certificate? First, read my new story, "Cat Toy". Then send me an email, to contest [at] lisabetsarai.com, with the subject line "Toys". In your email, tell me what you think should happen in the next chapter. That's all there is to it! Around August 15th, I'll randomly pick one email to receive the prize. And a hearty thanks to EdenFantasys for their generosity!
Lisabet's Pick of the Month
My Pick for July is Amy Valenti's blog. Amy's newly pubbed with Total-E-Bound, and judging by her fast but frequent posts, seems to have boundless energy. Check out her bizarre burlesque image posted a few days ago!
