Doughnuts, vodka and #mermaids... #recipes #guestpost @Lyncee

A Mermaid's Wish cover

By Lyncee Shillard (Guest Blogger)

Hi everyone!!!! I’m so glad you stopped by…And thank you Lisabet for hosting me.

Since this is the first time I’ve hung out on Lisabet’s blog, I thought I’d start off by sharing some of fav’s…. doughnuts and vodka. They complete me. :-p

These recipes are featured in my new release A Mermaid’s Wish

While doughnuts are my hands down favorite retreat food, cookies are a close second. And these – A Day at the Beach Cookies– are at the top of my list...

What You'll Need

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
  • ¼ cup coconut vodka
  • ¼ cup pineapple vodka
  • ¼ cup vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut

What to Do

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat cookie sheets with cooking spray.

    2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.

    3. In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, pineapple, and vodka; beat thoroughly. Gradually add flour mixture and blend.

    4. Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets. Sprinkle each cookie with a pinch of coconut. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.

    5. Cool slightly and remove from pan with a spatula.

Okay so we have the food covered now let’s move on to the drinks… these are a favorite everywhere I go. Sometimes I think I’m invited just for this drink…

The tropics in a glass…

What you need:

  • 1 1/2 ounces vanilla vodka
  • 1 ounce coconut rum
  • 1/2 ounce cream of coconut
  • Splash of pineapple juice
How to Make It:
  • Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake well.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a pineapple wedge and/or coconut flakes.

So when I’m not baking cookies or making drinks, I write.

A Mermaid's Wish

Aislynn gives up her position in Neptune’s court for the chance to experience human emotions. Especially passion. Before her wish is fulfilled, she finds herself the target of a serial killer.

A teaser....

(I do this a lot…I can’t help myself…)

Aislynn’s role as a negotiator for Neptune’s court had taught her to divide and conquer. Scott wanted her to work up an entire professional pitch for saving Camille’s homeland and she needed to get Finley to fall in love with her. The computer hummed as Aislynn clicked her way from website to website.

For the campaign to save the land sprit’s homeland Aislynn knew she would need to prove how doing so would improve profits. While the movement to become more environmentally aware was gaining support, the bottom dollar still ruled. She outlined two of her strongest ideas and requested back-up material from several organizations.

Excitedly, she switched over to finding ways to make Finley fall in love with her. She read several articles describing love, how to know if a man loves you, and twenty foolproof ways to make a man fall helplessly in love with you.

And we all know that what we find on the internet is true and excellent advice... ;^)

Come and hang out with me... we will talk about doughnuts and vodka...

About Threat of Danger

Falling in love can be a deadly proposition in this pulse-quickening Mission Recovery novel from the New York Times bestselling author.

Jess Taylor and Derek Daley were in the throes of first love in a small Vermont town when they were kidnapped by a serial killer. They escaped his clutches—but not the trauma of the unsolved crime. With their lives changed forever and their romance cut short, they went their separate ways to exorcise their fears.

Jess is living on the edge as Hollywood’s hottest stuntwoman. It’s no longer terror thrumming through her veins. It’s adrenaline. Derek is a former Navy SEAL spinning his ordeals into heart-pounding bestselling thrillers. But when Jess is called home on a family emergency, she must face the past—and face the man she left behind, who is just as haunted and, like her, still so much in love.

Now, as an old flame reignites, Jess and Derek are taking advantage of second chances and putting their bad memories behind them. But here, in the quiet town of Taylorville, a killer is getting a second chance as well.

Excerpt

Common sense said to walk away. She’d worked hard to make a life for herself in LA that worked for her.

Screw common sense. He stepped forward and reached around her, looped his fingers around her slim wrists, and tugged her hands from her pockets. Then he took those hands and drew her closer to him.

Derek . . .”

I wasn’t sure if you’d ever come back.”

I’m only back temporarily.”

Is that how you left things with Eliot?” That she’d be going after him soon? His mouth tightened at the thought.

He had to go. He had meetings scheduled with directors. And new equipment coming in that he has to test and make decisions on before the next shoot.”

When she talked about Eliot, she talked about the business. That gave Derek hope. Sounded like they’d parted as friends and colleagues, not as lovers who couldn’t wait to reunite.

Two and a half weeks left, at the most. He knew her shooting schedule from talking with Zelda. About eighteen days more before Jess had to report to the set. So why in hell was he wasting time?

He dipped his head and brushed his lips over hers. He’d gotten lost once in the Iraqi desert for three days. He hadn’t been as thirsty for water back then as he was now for a taste of Jess.

When she didn’t protest, he pulled her fully into his arms and kissed her.

The point of no return. He needed to find out if things could still work between them. He wanted her, and he could no longer pretend that he didn’t.

Her body was firm, but her lips were soft and silky, as sweet as Zelda’s prizewinning angel food cake. As sweet as the old Jess. Except, this new Jess, she was a woman. She had the power to bring Derek to his knees.

He’d told her that he would give her whatever she needed from him. He hoped she’d figure out that he was what she needed. He was going to have to help her reach that conclusion.

He breathed her in. She smelled like redemption. Like maybe he could have a do-over and get it right this time.

She stood still in the circle of his arms. Undecided. Wary.

Better than a sharp knee in the balls, but Derek wanted more. He nibbled her lips and licked the seam, tasting her.

She tasted like a whole new world opening up. She tasted like the blank page of a book before he’d written the first word, the possibilities limitless.

Was the story of his life written on her heart? Was the story of her life written on his?

Too early to tell. But he wanted to find out. Letter by letter, word by word, sentence by sentence. If only she’d let him.

She did let him in, let him deepen the kiss. Progress, but this was just the opening of her lips, not the opening of her heart. Still, Derek wouldn’t have been a good SEAL if he didn’t grab every advantage, no matter how small. And, really, the kiss could not be called small by any measure.

As he swept into Jess’s mouth, he felt his boundaries expand. Need rushed in, and filled him like water flooding into a torpedoed submarine. He sank onto the seabed of things he always wanted but never believed he could have. Jess’s forgiveness . . . and more.

All these years, he’d thought her forgiveness was all he wanted.

He’d been stupid.

He wanted this. Jess. And he knew in that moment that he was going to do whatever it took to get her and keep her. Eliot couldn’t have her, no matter how handsome he was, or how much they had in common, or how hot women thought it was that the guy was some grandmaster of stunts.

Derek wasn’t going to let Eliot have Jess. He didn’t care if the guy jumped out of a burning helicopter, tied hand and foot, with a ticking bomb in his backpack, and got an Oscar nomination in every single category for the performance.

Ouija boards, pet nappers and serial killers (#mystery #Halloween #giveaway @Ruth_Mysteries)

DeadSpeak 2 cover
Blurb

Things look different when you're dead.

It’s Halloween and a group of teens throw a party at Harbinger Falls’ most celebrated haunted estate. It’s all fun and games until a session with a Ouija board guides the partygoers to the body of a young girl hidden in the attic.

Detective Kimberly Trent is assigned the case and quickly discovers that all is not as it seems. First, there’s the connection between the death and a string of petnappings terrorizing the neighborhood. Then there’s the suicide note that only leaves more questions than answers. A visit from Kimberly’s ghostly friend Griff Lindon sheds an unwelcome light. It seems she’s had a run in with the newly deceased who tells her she’s been murdered.

This is the second in The Deadspeak Mysteries. The entries are meant to be read in sequential order and do not standalone. In each book, you’ll find a new murder for Kimberly Trent to solve. You’ll also find the continuing search for who murdered Kim’s sister Elizabeth. Each book will take you closer and closer to finding out the identity of The Hex Killer, the serial killer who ended Elizabeth’s short life. It will also bring you to the heart of the evil that’s come back to life to wreak revenge.

Excerpt

This reminds me of when I was in summer camp and stayed up all night trying to contact the dead,” Julie Welch commented.

Mia or no Mia, the time had arrived and the Ouija board was placed in the center of one of the folding tables.

You did that, Mrs. Welch?” Angie asked.

Of course,” Julie confessed with a giggle. “I lived for those summers, and the camp counselors had no idea what we were up to. They only wondered why we were all so tired in the mornings.”

The atmosphere of the Halloween Party had changed. Ever since the announcement, things went from Party Central, to an eerie, expectant quiet. The music was turned off and the food lined up on the rented tables was bereft of pawing hands.

The six rested their fingers lightly on the planchette. “Remember: no cheating! Understood?” Mrs. Welch warned.

The participants nodded in agreement as the woman with the highlighted blonde hair inhaled deeply.

Hello? Is there anyone with us?” Julie asked, starting off the questioning.

A soft scrape… and … movement! Infinitesimal at first, the planchette picked up speed.

Yes.

What the—” Gen started. A loud moan interrupted the moment.

Yes, I’m here,” a deep voice bellowed.

Fear spread quickly as attendees sprang up from their chairs and readied to run. Another unearthly groan penetrated the air. Angie latched on to Glenn’s hand.

Footsteps.

Someone was climbing the basement stairs.

About the Author

Born in the idyllic, sleepy town of Ithaca, NY, Ruth Bainbridge has been a lover of mysteries for her entire life.

Ever since a child, she has consumed detective stories at regular intervals, becoming enamored with all the superstars of crime. She loved nothing more than to match wits with the likes of Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Thomas Pitt, Lord Peter Wimsey, Richard Jury, and Edward X Delaney, becoming inspired by their brilliance. Hoping to emulate her writing idol’s achievements in dreaming up such characters, she started composing her own short stories.

However, life interfered with her plans of becoming the next hopeful to try a life of crime—on paper at least. Devoting herself to her marriage and the raising of four children, the empty nest syndrome gave her the impetus to return to her first love—murder.
