Do you scare easily? I don’t. Might be because I grew up with a brother who used to scare me growing up. His favorite was hiding under my bed and grabbing my feet when I’d sat on my bed. Or maybe its because my first introduction to horror was when I was seven. I snuck downstairs to see what movie my parents were watching. I was curious why there was someone screaming. I snuck down just in time to see a woman chop a guys head off. Yep, it scared the crap out of me and I had nightmares. Or maybe it’s the time my sisters and I were walking home from a late evening movie. The movie was “Cujo”. While walking home, we walked passed a building with a huge chain linked fence surrounded it. Just as we were walking on t6he sidewalk beside the fence, a huge dog ran at the fence barking wildly. Needless to say we ran the rest of the way home.

I feel that becaused I was intoduced to scares early I became desensitized to horror. There is very little that scares me now. Only one movie has managed to frighten me was “Sinister”. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. It’s a paranormal thriller about an author who moves his family into a house where the family was murdered. He writes about the murder that occurred there. While researching the murders, he comes across an old film projector showing gruesome murders. He begins to see and hear things. It’s not just that the movie is scary, it’s the music they use that really amps up the fear. Every good horror and paranormal movie has music in it used as a hint that something bad is going to happen. “Sinister” uses it in the perfect place.

I enjoy a good horror movie, but my favorite is hauntings. In my youth I lived in a haunted house. The current house I live in is haunted by an elderly gentleman who loves to play pranks. One time my daughter and I were watching Family Guy when a ball rolled into the room. We both saw him sitting on the couch and one time while I was alone in the house while my hubby was out of town the toilet seat was up. No men had been around since my hubby had left days earlier. So you can understand why I love the paranormal. Ghosts stories. I enjoyed the “Paranormal Activity” movies as well as “Amityville Horror”. “The Conjuring”. “The Hell House” series. “The Sixth Sense”. “1408”. “The Others”. “Gothica”. I could go on, but you get the idea.

I’ve written several novels about paranormal romance. Discovery in Passion, Secrets of the Dead, Innocence of the Dead, and Revenge of the Dead. A lot of my stories come from personal experiences as well as dreams I’ve had. I tend to have very vivid nightmares.

You might be wondering where the romance part comes from. I’m a romantic at heart. I love putting two people in a story that is scary just to break it up. I mean, who doesn’t love a good romantic story? Mine, however, aren’t flowery Harlequin romances. I’ve never been a fan of Harlequin romances. I feel they are pretty much the same. My couples are a little gritty. My female characters are often headstrong and determined. Not the ‘I need a man to be whole’ romance. What better way to discover love than by seeing how tough a person is in a sticky situation?

About the Author

Shiela Stewart is a paranormal suspense author with a writing history that stems back to her youth. Always a dreamer, wondering if her stories would ever reach an audience, she was finally published in 2006 and hasn’t stopped since.  It is rare to find a stand-alone book as she prefers series stories. Her longest-running series to date is her Darkness series, which is a vampire romance.​

Her joy for scary suspense is evident in each of her books.
