Scarlet Glasses: Writing erotica as an everyday exercise

By Ginger Segreti (Guest Blogger)

What do you see when you walk down the street? A sidewalk? A couple walking a dog? Flowers? Trees? What if you saw a lover’s embrace? Flower petals strewn across a bed or bathtub? A new position afforded by a low hanging branch …

My lens as an erotic author is always scarlet. Sometimes all it takes is a word, a thought, a look, an object and my mind journeys on an erotic exploit. I may play out a fantasy, a concept or a scene. The people may be distinct or just placeholders. It isn’t just the physical that’s arousing. The dynamics between the characters can be just as appealing.

I’m especially prone to titillating thoughts while engaging in physical activities, but that doesn’t stop me from fantasizing throughout the day. I wonder about casual glances, whispered words. Could they? Did they? A light touch, a lingering hand or finger…. I’m highly susceptible to amorous thoughts at the gym. As I work my muscles I’m intimately aware of my body. Regardless of where my eyes wander there are scantily clad people in all manner of bearing: squatting and lifting, bending over, kneeling and lying down. The positions, the muscles, the strain, the breathing add to my salacious speculations. That muscled man on the weight bench—would he flinch if I sat on his lap? The woman on the parallel bars, how would she react if I joined her and wrapped my legs about her waist? What would happen if I blocked the way for someone walking, the suave flow of muscles stopped midstride; their confident gait off balance from my intersection?

As I ruminate over rousing thoughts, I’m stimulated. My mind hovers in the space where arousal registers. I’m more in tune with my body. I take note of how things feel. I ponder different ways to capture need and want in words. I mull over experiences. How do you characterize the feeling of an ice cube as it melts along your belly or as you hold it between your lips? What about the delicious tickle of heat that shoots straight to your core as fire is blown upon the soles of your feet? What words can I combine to give you, the reader just enough imagery to spark your imagination and draw you into the experience?

I may develop the scene as I play out the moves in my mental chessboard or I may let the characters take me for a ride. As I’m more aware of how blood flows, lubricant increases and tissues swell I incorporate these experiences into my scenes. I pay attention to breathing, the variety and texture of inhalation and exhalation both as it moves the body and moves in and out of the body. Can you feel the soft sweet breeze as it travels across your chest from a lover’s mouth? Do you feel the swell of muscles pulling your nipples taut? Have goosebumps begun in random march across your flesh?

I muse over passion that begins on some days like hot coals or erupts on other days like fireworks from a simple single flame; how quickly or slowly the mind transitions to arousal and how that plays into the body’s response mechanism. At what point in the arousal cycle will my scene begin and end? Is foreplay enough to whet your appetite to read on? Are the characters in the mood? Am I in the mood? If I choose to incorporate penetration, what does that mean? What sensations do these words evoke?

How intimately can I influence your experience of these sensations through scene and character development? As my awareness of my own physiological experiences increases how can I impart that wisdom to you without being intrusive? Thoughts of these countless sensations to be explored tether me to arousal as easily as an elephant to a pole.

I posit arousal is much more a state of mind than anything else. Schedule some sexy time for you and a partner. Play. Swap fantasies. Do something new and exciting this month. I challenge you to a month of yes. Say yes to yourself, your partner, whomever. Say yes. This month. See what happens.

And please do let us know how it goes …

In my most recently published novella, How About A Threesome I focus equally on the heat among characters as well as the challenges of opening a relationship up to a third person.

How About A Threesome

Her girlfriend Ginger is a rebellious, red-headed Aquarius whos half hippie, half career woman. Her sexual identity is in flux and in her secret dreams she sometimes sees a husband. Both ladies want kids, but first they need some sperm.

Catalina suggests advertising for a threesome and their sexual odyssey begins. Ginger thinks of it as playing the lottery and enjoys the new-found undercurrent of sex in her day-to-day.

Catalina enjoys Gingers jump-started libido. Its as if they were newly dating again.

Their email floods with responses ranging from phallic to financial. Fantasies abound and new boundaries forge as both ladies explore uncharted territory.

Choosing a man who likes to be aggressive but loves being submissive, they head out for their first threesome

Mmm,” he moaned and squirmed, exciting me further. I moved back up his body and extended my exploration to his arms, which were large and well-defined, the better to hold me up against the wall and fuck me with.

Mr. 420 soon grew tired of being pinned. Uttering a low growl, he deftly moved me from his torso and tossed me down on the bed. I pushed him off of me as I pulled my shirt over my head. His lips fluttered across my abdomen and down as his hands held my sides. Pulling my skirt from my hips over my legs he left me practically naked. Not to be left out, he dropped his pants and stepped out of them revealing boxer briefs and a decent erection before turning to help Catalina remove her clothing. He was too late managing only to help her slide her pants over her calves.

Dropping her pants to the floor he turned his attention back to me. He gathered me in his arms as our lips locked. His mouth sought more of me kissing along my chin and trailing down my neck. He slowly approached my chest.

Catalina lay on my other side, her lips nibbling on my earlobe. In and out her breath blew a tight cord to my pussy. She caressed my stomach, leisurely making her way down my thighs when she whispered, “Can I blow him?”

It was the funniest, most random question, and I almost lost it.

Yes darling if you want to.” I whispered back my heart overcome for her.

Her tongue found mine and we kissed passionately before she got up to take his boxer briefs off. My core throbbed as Catalina positioned herself parallel to him, her mouth inching towards his cock, and her pussy in his face. I sat down on the other side of Mr. 420, giving me ample room and the perfect view to both watch and engage as I desired.

My breath hitched as Catalina’s eyes bloomed with raw heat and desire. I grabbed my left breast with one hand and my pussy lips with the other. His eyes were closed shielded from my inquiry and my show. Catalina moaned, her pelvis thrusting against his face while her mouth glided up and down his cock. Spit dribbled from her lips as she took him entirely. I watched as the juices from her cunt ran down his chin.

Ahhh.” I wanted. I needed. Oh fuck.

Sneak Peek: Hannah and the Highlander by Sabrina York

[Oh, yum! What else can I say? ~ Lisabet]

Hannah and the Highlander by Sabrina York

First in a brand-new series about the bold, brawny men of the Scottish Highlands--and the lovely lasses who bring them to their knees…

Coming September 1st

Highlanders are her weakness.

Hannah Dounreay has no time for suitors who only seem interested in her family's land, which she manages as well as any man. If she marries, she wants to be loved for the educated, independent woman she is. But when a strong, silent--and spectacularly handsome--Highlander saves her from a violent attack, her heart is stirred. Who is this man? And if he asks for Hannah's hand, will she be able to resist him?

Love is the most powerful weapon of all.

Alexander Lochlannach, Laird of Dunnet, has no time to lose. The Highlands are in an uproar as clans battle for land--without mercy--and Alexander can't afford to fall for the wildly attractive, strong-willed Hannah. What's more, he has a desperate secret, one that could destroy them both. But as their attraction turns into an all-consuming passion, Alexander has no choice but to prove to Hannah that he's the only man for her--body and soul…

Read an excerpt:

Egads. She wants to speak with him before the wedding…

The door opened immediately, as though she’d been standing there waiting. At the sight of her, his heart stalled and his throat tightened. She had this effect on him each and every time he saw her. God, she was so beautiful.

Her eyes widened, as though she was surprised to see him, which befuddled him, because she’d asked him to come. Then her gaze raked him. He liked to think that look in her eye was a glimmer of appreciation. “Dunnet,” she said. “You’re . . . dressed.”

Aye. Dressed for a wedding. He couldn’t help but notice she was not.

Lady . . . Hannah.” He bowed. “You wanted to . . . talk?”

She nodded briskly and opened the door wider, stepping back to allow him to enter. He did so and closed the door behind him. The click was deafening. It was not lost on him that he was in her bedchambers. His gaze flicked to the bed. It was slightly rumpled. That made him feel slightly rumpled as well.

This was not the time for his passion to rise.

It did.

Thank you for coming,” she said, turning away to pace. “I know you are prepared to marry . . . forthwith.” He had no idea why she emphasized the word as she did. “But before we exchange our vows, I have some things that I need to say.”

He nodded, even as relief gushed through him.

She hadn’t changed her mind.

And if she had things to say, he should probably stay silent. And listen.

You and I need to have an understanding.”

An . . . understanding?”

Aye.” His hope was supplanted by a hint of disappointment when she said in a very businesslike tone, “We both know this is a marriage of convenience.”

His gaze snapped to her face. Ernest though her expression was, it lacked the dreamy, romantic tinge a groom might hope for. In fact, she set her chin and shot him a very unromantic glance.

A marriage of convenience? A cold, heartless, distant union? Denial howled. Suddenly, to his surprise, he found he wanted something very different. He longed to respond, to cry out his dissent, but his throat locked.

There is no reason to pretend this is something other than it is. I agreed to marry you because Dounreay needs your protection and you agreed to marry me for my lands. We are marrying for no other reason. Aye. I understand that. We understand that.”

Nae. We understood nothing of the sort. There was another reason he was determined to marry her, did she but realize.

He wanted her.

Regardless, Dunnet, my wish is for a peaceful union.”

Peaceful. Aye. Peaceful was good.

I should like for us to work together as a team. In partnership.”

Aye. He had a partnership in mind. . . .

If I’m going to pledge myself to a man forever, I need to know that he will respect me. That he will honor my wishes. I need to know he will take my counsel into account.” She fixed Alexander with a steady gaze, as though she expected a response. So he nodded.

She was so beautiful, so earnest. So tantalizing.

He stepped closer, intent on his target.

Her eyes widened as he neared. Her hand on his chest stalled his approach and her brow wrinkled. Her gaze flicked to his mouth and her tongue peeped out, wetting her lips, igniting a flame in his belly. With great effort, she ripped her gaze away and frowned. “Do you agree to my terms?” she asked.

He cupped her cheek and angled her head up. Her breath caught. Her features froze as she realized his intent. “Aye,” he said. “Aye.” And then he did what he’d been thinking about for weeks. What he’d been obsessing over all day. He kissed her.

And it was glorious.

A shiver rippled over Hannah’s skin as Dunnet took her mouth. His taste, his scent, infused her. It was a light kiss, a testing foray, but it sent an unholy thrill through her and left her wanting one thing. More.

She had wanted this chance to speak with him privately, to receive his assurances that their marriage would be a partnership, to set her mind at rest, and he’d done that. But if she was being truthful . . . something like this had been on her mind as well, skulking there behind her noble intentions, a roiling hunger. A curiosity. A need.

She’d kissed him before and he had turned away. She desperately needed to know if, in his heart, he had any passion for her whatsoever.

He lifted his head—way too soon—and stared down at her. “Hannah . . . ” he murmured.

Even as she attempted to rein in her disappointment at his withdrawal, his hold on her cheek tightened, his eyes narrowed, and he issued a noise, something gruff and deep, something that sent a lick of exhilaration through her.

He yanked her closer. The feel of his body against hers, rigid and unyielding, made her head spin. His fingers threaded through her hair and he held her steady as his head descended again. She sucked in a breath, quivering with anticipation.

And ah. Ah.

This kiss was different.

This wasn’t tentative in the slightest. It was a taking. A mad, starved consummation of her mouth with his, a melding of lips and tongue and need.

This was as wild as the windy squalls off the coast. As tantalizing as the fairy wisps at dusk. As scorching as the forge where razor-sharp steel was tempered and formed.

And it cut through her like a screaming wind, an enticing magic, a warm blade.

Scuttles of heat rose in her womb. Rivulets of excitement danced in her veins. His taste filled her senses, her mouth, her soul.

When he lifted his head, a glimmer danced in his eye. It was the look of a conquering hero, a savage Scotsman, a man whose hunger had been sated but ignited at the same time.

Oh heavens.

Exultation whipped through her. Her knees were weak and her body melted.

Damn her reservations.

Damn her fears.

Damn her doubts about whether or not he really wanted her.

She wanted him. And she would have him.

It was gratifying to see that he was not unaffected. His breath came heavy and hard and there was a slight tremble in his voice when he spoke. It was one word and one word only, forced out and wreathed in a growl, but it was enough.

Mine.”

The Inspiration for Sated

By Lucy Felthouse (Guest Blogger)

When I saw the call for submissions that Totally Bound Publishing put out for their Wild After Dark anthology, I knew I had to give it a go. Paranormal ménage... what could be better? The next thing to do, of course, was to come up with an idea. In short stories, one thing I often struggle with is getting my characters into the required situation in such a short space of time, while at the same time keeping it plausible and not rushed. So, how did I get three characters into bed together, having smokin’ hot sex, within the required word count?

Soon—my brain provided the much-needed inspiration. I’d have a human, a vampire and a werewolf in my tale, and the human woman would be dating the vampire. The werewolf would come along later. Once I’d got that far, the human woman, a gorgeous Indian chick called Aneesa started talking to me. And damn, was she sassy. And horny. Luckily for me, she was a big fan of sex—most especially with her vampire boyfriend, Ace—and the two of them were rapidly checking items off Aneesa’s sexual bucket list. One item, though, remained untouched... until now.

Aneesa wanted to have a threesome....

I don’t want to say any more because I’ll give the game away, but let’s just say Sated is fun, sexy, and also dark in places. I really enjoyed writing this naughty paranormal tale, and am delighted that it was accepted for publication, and that, so far, people seem to be enjoying it!

Happy Reading,
Lucy x

Blurb

A human, a vampire and a werewolf walked into a bar. Sexy is what happens next.

Since getting together with her vampire boyfriend, Ace, Aneesa is enjoying a sex life she could never have with a human. Ace has skill, strength, stamina…and is massively adventurous.

Aneesa is checking things off her sexual bucket list at a rate of knots. However, she hasn’t even come close to experiencing the ultimate item on her list. So when Ace beats her to it, proposing a threesome with his werewolf friend, Barton, Aneesa’s definitely up for it.

Barton is attractive, smart and sexy—almost too good to be true, in fact. Aneesa decides not to jump straight into things, but makes sure it’s what she truly wants. However, it turns out Barton’s not so easily dissuaded.

Will Aneesa get the ultimate erotic experience she’s desired for so long? Will she be truly sated, or is the plan doomed to failure?

Excerpt

Pausing, then pulling me closer, Ace pointed across the room. The bar itself was L-shaped. We were parallel to the longer side, and just past the corner was the man that Ace was indicating. “That’s Barton. And I have never known that guy to be early for anything. Ever. Seems he’s just as eager as you.” He chuckled, then pressed a kiss to my hair.

A thrill shot through me—and not just from Ace’s proximity and that sexy chuckle. Even from a distance, I could see that Barton was gorgeous. He was the opposite to Ace in several ways—dark where Ace was fair, beefy where Ace was lithe, and yet he still pushed all my buttons. Visually, at least. It took much more than just looks for a man to float my boat, so I figured it was time to stop gawping and get over there and meet him.

I shrugged, despite knowing that Ace would see right through my feigned indifference. “Maybe he’s changed, Ace. People do that, you know. Come on, let’s get over there before we end up being late.”

Wisely, Ace chose to keep quiet and continued to hold my hand as we approached Barton. Not in a possessive fashion, but more of an I’m-here-babe-you’re-safe kind of way.

Barton swiveled on his barstool as we grew closer, then hopped off it, his hand held out. He gave me a quick smile before greeting Ace. “Ace, mate! How’s it going?” They shook hands, clapped each other on the shoulder, then broke apart.

Immediately, Barton turned to me. “Hey, Aneesa, I’m Barton. It’s great to meet you.” I shook his hand, enjoying the strength and warmth that he emitted. I noted how he was checking me out—in more of a curious than lusty way. I guessed he was trying to be respectful.

I gave a genuine smile. He was just as cute close up as he’d been from across the room. “It’s great to meet you too, Barton…” I tried not to cringe as I tailed off—it was obvious that I’d been about to say something else, but had decided against it. Mainly because the only two options my brain had supplied were ‘I look forward to getting to know you better’ and ‘Ace has told me so much about you.’

The first was cheesy beyond belief and, considering the reasoning behind our meeting, laden with innuendo. If I’d let that phrase come out of my mouth, I think I’d have died of embarrassment on the spot.

The second was simply not true, which is why I hadn’t said it. Until the whole threesome thing had come about, I couldn’t remember Ace ever mentioning Barton. And the questions I’d asked Ace since then didn’t really count as Ace telling me lots about him.

And so the awkward silence hung in the air for several seconds, before Barton recovered. Smiling, he said, “Can I get you a drink, guys? Aneesa?”

Um, yes please,” I replied, regaining the ability to speak. A double vodka and Coke would have gone down a treat right then, but Ace and I had already agreed we were going to stay sober for this meeting—we needed clear heads to make decisions and to ensure that whatever happened next was influenced only by us, not by alcohol. “I’ll just have a Coke, please.”

Of course. Ace?”

The same, please.”

With a quick nod, Barton turned back to the bar and attempted to get the attention of a member of staff. I took the opportunity to study Barton in greater detail without him knowing. Quite honestly, I really enjoyed what I saw. He was a tad taller than Ace, making him maybe three inches over six feet. Tightbut not obscenely sojeans covered what looked like a very grabbable, bitable backside and thick thighs that were in perfect proportion with the rest of him. A narrow waist flared out to wide shoulders, encased in a short-sleeved T-shirt which showed off his physique. His arms, of course, were muscular, and looked as though even if he hadnt been a werewolf, that he could throw me around in the bedroom. Mmm
