Does life inspire writing? #guestblogger #EMT #Romance @DonnaVStone

By D.V. Stone (Guest blogger)
Does life inspire writing? Absolutely! Hi, my name is Donna, and I write as D. V. Stone, and I’m so happy to be here today. Former parts of my life inspire the book Rock House Grill as an Emergency Medical Technician and small restaurant owner. And workplace romance? Yep, though mine was a bit different. I’m happily married for twenty-six years. So where was I twenty-seven years ago? In prison.

Ha, got ya!

I was an EMT in a women’s state prison. Since I was newly divorced, my co-workers conspired to fix me up with a New Boot. Yes, he was cute, but I was still recovering from a nasty divorce a year earlier. The last thing I was looking for was a romantic relationship. Well, those nurses and correction officers were sure this guy was the one for me. They insisted he wanted to go on a date with me, and to get them off my back, I finally agreed. Come to find out they were pestering him too. These would be matchmakers kept telling him, “Donna, the EMT (that’s how I was referred to by everyone, including inmates) wants to go out with you.”

Well, our first date was my annual squad dinner in March. Guess what? They were right. We became inseparable and engaged by May and the following May married.

Many years later, as a couple, we invested in a coffee shop called Heavenly Brew, which is in a scene from my book. We also bought a small restaurant.

EMT Shay McDowell in Rock House Grill has similar concerns. On a hot summer night, she’s called to the scene of an accident where Chef Aden House has wrecked his beautiful Camaro. I couldn’t name the car in the book, trademarks you know, but my sweet ride is Snowball, a dazzling white Camaro.

In another interesting coincidence of real-life mimicking fiction, during the time I was writing about Aden’s recovery from leg injuries, my dear Pete was too. Talk about hands-on research.

Rock House is the first book of the Impact Series. Each one will focus on a different couple, First Responder, and a music theme. All of these are important to me. I love romance and Happily Ever Afters. There will be threads like Heavenly Brew and familiar characters. Jazz House is next up, and after that, I think the third will be Blues House. I’m also considering branching off on the musical theme with Honky Tonk Hold-Out. Who knows? Next year I retire, and we’ll be traveling around the country in our 5th Wheel trailer.

Well, I hope you enjoy reading about me and Rock House Grill. I’d love to give away a token of appreciation to your readers. Three gift bags holding a notebook, a sweet treat, and a signed bookmark. Just leave a comment with your email if you want one!

One man’s choices—One woman’s impact

Aden House, successful but driven chef and TV personality, refuses to slow down. His life implodes one night, damaging him both physically and emotionally. He’s rescued by a woman he thinks of as his angel.

Shay McDowell has rebuilt her life after her divorce. She juggles volunteer EMT duties and her job, while dreaming of becoming a chef. She finds her way to Rock House Grill and back into the life of the man she helped save.

Can love be the ingredient needed to survive the many obstacles they face?

Excerpt

Easy, you’re going to be okay.” A soft voice eased through the chaos around him. The owner of the voice grabbed his arms and held them in a firm but gentle grip. “I’m right here with you. You are not alone.”

Can hardly m-move.” His voice slurred. “C-can’t see anything.”

You’ve been in an accident. I’m an EMT with the ambulance squad,” the velvety voice calmly explained. “You can’t see well because we’re under a tarp. Hold still, okay?”

“‘K.” A small light flickered at the edge of his vision. It shone into a bag next to him. Penlight.

You’re restrained to a board. It’s to keep your head from moving and causing more injury.” She continued to talk to him. The voice reached down somewhere inside him, calming and peaceful, so he focused on it. A glow from spotlights on the outside lit whatever covered them. The shadow gave the woman the appearance of a halo—like an angel.

About Me

Hi, my name is D. V. Stone. I am a multi-genre author of two independently published books. Felice, Shield-Mates of Dar is a fantasy romance. Agent Sam Carter and the Mystery at Branch Lake is a mid-grade paranormal. Recently, Rock House Grill was released by Wild Rose Press. I also host Welcome to the Campfire and A Peek Through the Window, both weekly blogs. Here’s a little more about me.

Born in Brooklyn, D.V. Stone has moved around a bit and even lived for a time on a dairy farm in Minnesota before moving back east. Throughout her wandering, she always considered herself a Jersey Girl. She met and married the love of her life, Pete—a lifelong Jersey Man, and moved this time to Sussex County. They live with Hali, a mixed breed from the local shelter and their cat Baby.

D.V.’s career path varied from working with the disabled to become a volunteer EMT, which in turn led to working in hospital emergency rooms and then in a women’s state prison. After a few years, she took a break from medicine and became the owner of Heavenly Brew, a specialty coffee shop in Sparta NJ, and a small restaurant in Lafayette. Life handed some setbacks, and she ended up back in the medical field, but this time in a veterinary emergency hospital.

During the poor economy, she was laid–off from a long-time position she cared about. Devastated, D.V. wondered what to do with her life. Finding comfort in her love of reading, she realized it was now time to follow her dream of writing. It’s been a long road but worth every minute of it. Now a published author, she also works in a people medical office again.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me. Each time you open the pages to one of my books, I hope you’ll be swept away by the story and find encouragement in your own life, never to give up on hope.”

Lust Behind Bars (#spanking #eroticromance #bdsm @ashebarker)

By Ashe Barker (Guest Blogger)

Im really excited about Hardened. Ive written quite a few M/f stories, and they mostly tend to start out with the male hero in a position of power or influence. Hardened is different. When we meet Jared and Molly he is a prisoner serving time for armed robbery and shes a prison officer. The chemistry between them is off the scale sexy though, and even though it spells trouble for them both, but especially for her, they cant keep their hands off each other. For a while Ive been thinking about a story that starts out a bit different and this is it.

Jared is a bad lad (dont we all just love one of those?) but hes bright too, and talented, and can see where hes gone wrong. Hes made some bad choices when he was younger but hes determined to forge a different life for himself, though its not always that simple. I suspect the same is true for most ex-offendersit can be hard to completely walk away from your old associates and as Jared discovers, the past has a habit of never being that far behind you.

Despite the fact that he is doing time for armed robbery, Molly MacBride is drawn to Jared North almost from the moment she sets eyes on him. Even behind bars his confidence and dominance are undeniable, and soon enough she is willingly baring her bottom and placing herself across his strong thighs, surrendering to both firm punishment and intense pleasure.

When all hell breaks loose during a prison riot, it is Jared who saves Molly’s life, but she is so shaken by the incident that she quits her job and does her best to put him out of her mind. As the years pass, however, Jared never relinquishes his place in her heart—or her fantasies—and when she learns that he has been released on parole Molly cannot resist seeking him out.

Through a combination of hard work and natural talent, Jared has forged a career for himself as a world-renowned photographer, yet in spite of his newfound sophistication and wealth he is no less dominant than he was when she first met him. It isn’t long before Molly finds herself submitting to both his stern discipline and his masterful lovemaking, but can she truly risk falling for a man whose criminal past could come back to haunt them both at any moment?

Publishers Note: Hardened is an erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please dont buy this book.

Review Quotes

Wow! I was really surprised by this book….the story is about Jared and his choices and the consequences of those choices. The writing is very good and the story absolutely kept me turning pages until I finished the book. This book really earned its' 5 stars.

This was a good page turner as I was keen to see where their journey took them.

Excerpt

Pearson, youre going to be late.He has plenty of time, but I want to talk to North alone.

No, miss. Im fine for a bit yet.Pearson seems quite content to continue shoving clothes into the steam press and slamming down the lid. I watch him for a couple of minutes before I try again.

Were short-staffed today, everything takes longer. Better get a move on, Pearson.

Is someone else coming, then?Pearson switches off his laundry press and ambles over to where Im stationed by the door. The regulations require at least two people to be present when the laundry is in use in case of accidents.

Soon. Ill let you out then Ill stay with North until Jackson arrives.

Itll be at least half an hour before the next prisoner is detailed to come down and take over from Pearson, which should be ample time to ask Jared North about the camera. I precede the prisoner down to the gates at the end of the utility wing corridor and let him through. From there another officer will let Pearson back onto the wing, and onto the visitorssuite. I relock the security gate and return to the laundry room.

North is still occupied with his task, though he does glance at me over his shoulder as I re-enter the huge room, then he switches his attention back to his work.

I want my property back. His curt remark is delivered without even looking at me. He straightens, flexes his muscles, and drags another wheeled bin of dirty laundry in the direction of an empty washing machine.

Youre not supposed to have a camera in here. You know that.

Neither are you, Miss MacBride. Now he does turn to regard me fully, one hip propped on the edge of the bin, his expression inscrutable.Care to explain?

I dont. I dont care to explain at all. I have nothing even vaguely resembling an explanation to offer, either to North or to myself.

Where did you get it?I try to inject a note of authority into my question.

He simply shakes his head.

I try again, piling on the officiousness as best I can.Someone brought it in for you. I want to know who that was.

More head-shaking.

I could put you on report, you do realise that?

Now he just chuckles. But you wont. You cant.

I—”

He continues as though I hadnt spoken.Because if you do, youll have to also explain why you didnt report it yesterday. Why you hid it, and I assume took it home with you. And why you brought it back. I hope you did bring my camera back, Miss MacBride.

Why did you take pictures of me?I blurt out the question, homing in on the one aspect of all this that makes me most uncomfortable. And most exhilarated.

He smiles and meets my gaze, though he appears rather calmer than I am right now.

Because I like looking at you.

What do you mean? Thats, thats…”

Youre prettier than Mr. Drummond.

Thats not saying much. Our wing supervisor is certainly no oil painting, Im not sure I appreciate the comparison.

Perhaps not. So, are you going to give it back to me?He holds out his hand, one eyebrow raised in what could only be described as a direct challenge.

I tilt up my chin; assertiveness is everything in these confrontational situations between officers and prisoners. No, North, Im not. Its a contraband item and its been confiscated.

He appears quite unruffled.I see. Very well, Ill apply to the governor for it to be returned.

No! No, you cant.I take a step toward him, then pause, uncertain how best to proceed.

Can I not? Oh, I understand, because then youll have to explain how it found its way into your pocket during the cell search. Yes, I can see that might be awkward. Still, that isnt really my problem. He starts to load the laundry into the machine.Could you close the door as you leave, Miss MacBride?

I stand, glaring at his muscled back, intensely aware of the camera nestling in my pocket. He has me, its as simple as that. I have no choice.

Okay, you can have it back. But you have to delete the pictures of me.

He turns to face me again. Are you still here, Miss MacBride?
