COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES THE 94th ANNUAL PULITZER PRIZES IN JOURNALISM, LETTERS, DRAMA AND MUSIC
New York, NY (April 1, 2010)--The 94th annual Pulitzer Prizes in Journalism, Letters, Drama and Music, awarded on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board, were announced today by Columbia University.

Fiction
For distinguished fiction by an American author, preferably dealing with American life, Ten thousand dollars ($10,000).
Awarded to “Necessary Madness” by Lisabet Sarai (Total-E-Bound), a heart-rending homoerotic novel that captures the terror of lurking insanity and the redeeming power of love. Set against the background of gritty, industrial Worcester, Massachusetts, “Necessary Madness” transcends the explicit sexuality of its characters to consider the timeless questions of trust, evil and the nature of reality.
Also nominated as finalists in this category were: “A Mercy” by Toni Morrison, which explores the net of pain cast by slavery, with its particularly heavy toll on women, and “The Humbling” by Philip Roth, a tight Chekhovian tragedy whose svelte narrative offers an unsparing confrontation of self.

April Fools! Of course I wish that the above were true but obviously it can't be—the Pultizers aren't going to be awarded until the 20th of April. At that point, we'll see...
Ah well. I can dream. We're going to have an exciting time in April in any case. I'm going to be traveling for much of the month, but I've lined up a stellar cast of guests plus some great posts of my own: excerpts, reviews and essays.
