Excerpt

Patch groans as I turn to walk past Mack and into the kitchen to put the bowls away. For such a big man, Patch moves stealthily. I see him coming in my peripheral and spin, putting my hands up to stop him. I try to back away, but my high-pitched laughter has me moving too slowly. He bends forward and scoops me over his shoulder. He hangs onto the back of my knees while he turns one way, then the other as he dumps the bowl’s contents into the trash and sets them in the sink.

I’m laughing harder now. He cracks my ass with his lumberjack-sized hand. Both ass cheeks heat instantly and my pussy twitches. I grab onto the waistband of his denim pants and try to lift my face off his back, but I’m laughing too hard to hold the position for more than a few seconds. He cracks me again. I try to cover my ass with my right hand, but somehow, he grasps my wrist and gives me two more. My ass is on fire!

I fucking love this!

Patch carries me into his bedroom and kicks the door shut with his foot. Before putting me down, he steps out of his slippers, undoes his pants and lets them fall to the floor, kicking them to the side. He tosses me onto my back on the bed. He’s on me, between my legs before the second bounce.

His mouth presses to mine with passion behind it. I could disappear into this man if I let myself. It would be as simple as closing my eyes and pretending he’s Bash. I miss him so much.

I whisper, “Tonight, you can pretend I am her.”

His expression softens. It’s as if he’s suddenly lost ten years of stress off his face. He nods slowly, brushing his thumb along my lips. The dominant man inside him is shadowed by his kinder side.

His voice flows with a deep whisper. “If we keep our eyes closed, we can pretend. This isn’t wrong, is it?”

My fingertips trail down his forehead and cheek. “We’ll keep our eyes closed. It won’t mean anything between you and me, other than two bodies pleasing each other while holding the image of someone else.”

Agreed. Thank you,” he whispers before his lips press tenderly to mine.

He’s passionate and romancing her with his kisses. The otherwise rough, workingman’s hands seem softer than silk as they brush along my skin. He cups my breast, kissing down my neck with slow, deliberate pecks. My fingers weave into his short, dark hair as his lips surround my areola. As his tongue warms and teases my nipple, the full weight of his chest presses onto my pelvis, pinning me to the bed.

He rocks his body. Between the nipple play and the pressure on my clitoris, I’m moaning between deep breaths. His gentle hands wrap around both breasts, pushing them closer together so he can alternate between them quickly, nipping and flicking until my womanhood drips with need.

I’m lost in his tenderness. His sensual movements are as smooth as a ballet dancer. My hands slide along the bed, down beside my butt until our fingers weave together. An easy moan slips from his throat.

His tongue laps at my folds, sucking and flicking at my clitoris until I’m on the edge of letting myself fall into the abyss of glory when he suddenly stops. I groan my disappointment, but his mouth is on mine quickly, suffocating my protest. His left elbow rests beside my head while his right hand caresses my thigh.

With one quick movement, he’s deep inside me. Both of us gasp into each other’s mouths. His halted breath proves his pleasure. When my hips lift to meet his slow, deliberate thrusts, he pushes against my cervix, causing shock waves to ripple through me. The way our bodies mesh so perfectly, anyone watching would believe us to be deeply in love with each other.

He’s building me slowly toward orgasm. Nobody has ever moved this expertly with me, including him. I’m slipping away, becoming light and yet so heavy. I’m warm, cradled, and desired. I know it’s not me he’s dreaming of, but how lucky I would be if I were. She is a fool to have left a man who loves her this much. I can feel his heart breaking for her. He does not aim his compassion at me. I’ll be wise to keep that in mind.

In a flash, he rolls us both, our mouths never separating. I’m above him, straddling his pelvis, his rock-hard cock buried deep into me. His massive hands grip firmly on either side of my waist. I sit up and try to buck but he won’t allow me to move. His eyelids are closed, mouth open, chest heaving.

The weather outside pelts against the window creating a song that mirrors the moment between us; deafeningly peaceful, serene but treacherous, absolutely flawless with the possibility of disaster. At any moment, either of us could forget who we’re connected to and let our hearts break wide open.

I glance at him but only for a second. I cannot allow myself the pleasure of falling deeper under his spell. He watches me. His teeth are clenched, eyes seem darker, and his face has taken back those years he had lost earlier.

His Adam’s Apple bobs. “I’m going to fuck you hard now because I can’t do this with you.” I nod, knowing how close we came to bonding with more than just our bodies.

Should I make you work for it?” I reply with a sassy tone.

His nostrils flare. “If you’re up for it.”

Before he can react, I slap his face and then fling my leg over him, attempting to escape his wrath. He growls like a madman, grasping my ankle just as I’m about to hop off the bed. I topple forward, catching myself before I hit the floor. I pull at the rug and kick, trying to yank my ankle out of his hand, but his mighty grip is inescapable. I kick with my other leg, hitting him in the chest, forcing him to let go. We both laugh; mine brought on with a hint of fear while the battle enthralls him.

I run to the door while he leaps off the bed and strides toward me. Quickly, I whip open the door and run through, slamming it behind me. He thuds against the wood and growls like a wild beast. He gives me time to hide while calling out to me from behind the closed door. “Goldilocks… I’m coming to get you!”

Which way do I go? Shit! Shit! Shit!

I run out the front door, closing it quietly behind me. It’s damn cold out here and dark as hell. I can’t see my hand in front of my face unless the lightning sparks, momentarily blinding me with the darkened shapes of the surrounding objects. I feel like someone is taking pictures of me and I keep looking at the flash.

I’m careful not to make any noise, but I’m unsuccessful when I bump into the table, knocking an empty beer can onto the wooden porch. I shuffle my feet, waiting for the lightning to light a path to the other side of the porch. It’s too dangerous to slip into the thick of the forest. If a tree falls, it could kill me.

I hear a sound behind me and spin to look just as a bolt of lightning lights up the entire porch. Patch is standing a foot away from me. My giddy yet terrified shriek seems to fizzle out between the fat raindrops as if it didn’t exist. I spin to run but he has my hair in his fist.

His voice sounds distant, drowned by the sheets of rain. “I found you, bitch! You’re in trouble now, whore!” He’s naked, his cock harder and thicker than I’ve ever seen it. His huge hand grabs my throat, pulling me toward his face. “Slap me, will you? You won’t do that again.”

A tinge of fear trickles into my laughter when his hand tightens. Blood rushes to my face and it’s harder to breathe. He glares fiercer with each bolt of lightning. It’s terrifying, sexy, and holy fuck, I want him!

Review Tuesday moved to Thursday! Truth or Daire by Keta Diablo -- #ReviewTuesday #EroticRomance #Novella

Truth or Daire cover

Truth or Daire by Keta Diablo
Kindle Desktop Publishing, 2020

Cagney Kissler has been saving her V-card for that special someone. When her good-looking, fast-talking temporary flatmate Daire finally manages to seduce her, she wonders why she waited so long. Then she comes home from her job at Bloomingdale’s with her brand new, sexy lingerie, anticipating another night of delirious pleasure, and discovers he’s a lazy, lying cheat who’s just using her so he’ll have a place to crash. She kicks him out, but the damage to her self-esteem is not so easily repaired.

Fortunately, she has already planned a week-long winter escape to visit her best friend Lily in Fort Myers, Florida. The warm sun and the tropical environment are just what she needs to help her get over her heartache. When she meets Evan Truth – gorgeous, wealthy, considerate and insightful – she discovers how shallow her feelings for Daire really were. Evan’s kiss ignites her; his touch drives her crazy with desire. Meanwhile he’s such a decent, generous soul that she can’t help falling in love. But Cagney’s time in Florida is short and she knows Evan can never be more than a holiday fling. Flying back to her empty life in frigid, gray Chicago might be the hardest thing she’s ever done.

Truth or Daire is a brief but engaging erotic romance that does a fantastic job portraying the connection between two soul mates. The love scenes are gorgeous, while the deliciously described Florida setting reflects the warmth of Cagney’s and Evan’s connection. This 46 page novella provides a full narrative arc, with a conflict centered on the physical and psychological distance between the protagonists’ lives. Cagney’s wrenching parting from her beloved had me aching for her. However, this conflict is rapidly resolved in the last few pages and the happy ending assured. Indeed the obstacles dissolve, perhaps because they existed only in Cagney’s mind to start with.

Although it feels complete, this book was too short for my tastes. Ms. Diablo doesn’t have the word count to go into any depth. For instance, Evan is a veteran of the Afghan war, but we never really get to see how that (presumably horrific) experience affected him. We also know very little about the heroine, other than the fact that she’s a bit naïve and certainly more conservative than her rather wild Florida girlfriend. Truth or Daire offers a mere sketch of a relationship between two characters whom I’d like to know better.

Of course the answer to the implicit question in the book title was always Evan, but Daire reappears near the end, in a great scene that shows how far Cagney has come in a short time. I think Daire could have become more than just a brief comic relief. The same is true with Lily. It seems a shame to create such colorful characters but not take advantage of them.

In general, I have a personal preference for longer books. If, on the contrary, you’re looking for a quick romance hit, with lingering sweetness and luscious heat, Truth or Daire may be just the thing.

Blurb

Shy and serious by dayinsatiable by night.

Betrayed and abandoned by her first lover, shy and studious Miranda Cahill freezes in response to any sexual attention from someone she knows and likes.

During the day, she works diligently on her doctoral thesis. At night, she finds herself drawn into increasingly extreme sexual encounters with strangers. Public coupling, multiple partners, age play, spankings, bondage, lesbian lust—each experience reveals new dimensions of her depravity. Her anonymous secret life begins to take over when she discovers that the masked seducer she meets in a sex club and the charismatic young professor courting her are the same man.

Dickens scholar Mark Anderson seems like an affable, uncomplicated Midwesterner, but he has hidden depths, myriad talents, and an unlimited appetite for erotic variety. With Mark as her guide, Miranda gradually comes to understand and accept the intricacy of her own desires, as well as to trust her heart.

Excerpt

Mark! Where was he, anyway? When last she had looked, he had been at the back of the room, but everyone was gone now. She was suddenly hollow and aching with longing for her lover.

As if in answer to her questing mind, she felt a touch on the inside of her thigh. Mark? She had the urge to look under the tablecloth, to confirm that it was he, but something held her back. A finger alternated, stroking her nylon-clad thigh, then brushing the bare skin above her stocking. The contrast was exquisite, the results electric. The finger-dance along her thighs continued. Now another hand drifted lightly over her mound, tickling her through the satin. She felt brief regret as her juices thoroughly soaked the expensive wisp of lingerie, before lust overwhelmed all other concerns.

Slumped in her chair, she spread her thighs, shamelessly offering access to her hidden partner. He responded by tracing the outline of her pubis with his fingers, along the edges of the thong where fabric met flesh. Miranda writhed. She wanted him to touch her inside the garment, to rip it off and plunge his digits into her. Still, he played with her, rubbing the slippery fabric against her clit, forcing the damp cloth up between her legs, wedging the thong into the crevice between her cheeks and rocking it back and forth over her anus.

Now she felt moist heat, delicious, melting her. His mouth hovered over her sex and he simply breathed. His hands were quiet, holding her thighs wide. There was only his mouth, his breath, and the images unrolling in her mind. She felt as though he were holding a burning candle to her clit.

She saw herself staked spread-eagle on a crag, her privates baked by a tropical sun. She felt herself bathed in molten gold that pouring over her folds, filling her, gilding her. The heat swelled until she erupted against his lips, juices like lava overflowing her cavities. She whimpered as her climax seared her. Hot tongues of pleasure lapped at her satin-sheathed pussy. Flames flickered on her closed eyelids.

Dimly, she felt her garters being unhooked and her soaking panties removed. Strong arms lifted her. She felt starched linen against her buttocks. She was seated on the table. Opening her eyes at last, she found Mark standing between her legs, unzipping his fly.

She wanted to speak, but again, she felt that weird sense of constraint. Mark’s face was serious, intent, with no trace of his normal grin. He loosed his erection and Miranda thought it looked oddly unfamiliar. It stood at a different angle, perhaps, or curved in a different direction, or perhaps it was a bit thicker than she remembered. She was puzzled, but enormously aroused. Mark grabbed her legs and pulled them up onto his shoulders, then without preliminaries, he plunged into her well-lubricated cunt.

Briefly, her mind was besieged by small worries. The table was strewn with water glasses. He was not wearing a condom. The meeting room door was wide-open—at any moment someone could happen by and discover them. Then her mind dissolved in a sea of sensation and she gave herself up completely to her partner’s cock.

He felt glorious. He stretched her beyond belief, burying his rod in her slippery depths, battering her with his hardness. There was a new urgency to his fucking. This was not a game or a scene. There were no masks, no roles. He was not in control. There was no technique here, only pure need. Miranda responded to his naked lust in kind, totally forgetting who and where she was.

She arched her back to meet his thrusts, forcing him deeper. He pressed her thighs back toward her, so that she was bent double, and pounded her from above, his fingernails biting into her calves. Miranda knew nothing, no pain, no fear, only blind and inarticulate pleasure. Together, thrashing and moaning, scattering water glasses and tearing clothing, they climbed the steep ladder to ecstasy. Together, they reached the summit, and felt everything collapse beneath them. They flew.

Later, they lay together on the ruined table, still speechless with a kind of awe. Mark ran his fingers through Miranda’s tangled locks and touched her lips with his own. He was smiling again, but there was something unfamiliar in his expression, something deep, strange, tinged with sadness. She suddenly recalled her cloakroom fuck and understood that this was its counterpoint, equally anonymous and public, but sparked by love. Stranger and lover, thought Miranda. You give me what I need.

Review Tuesday: Prescription for Love - #ReviewTuesday #EroticRomance #Mexico

Prescription for Love cover

Prescription for Love by Fiona McGier
Smashwords & Amazon KDP, 2010

Dr. Enrique Reyes grew up in Chicago, but he has set up his practice in his grandfather’s small town in Mexico. Though he’s a long way from the rest of his extended family, he feels a strong connection to the home of his ancestors. The townspeople like and respect him, and he’d generally happy. The only thing missing in his life is a woman to love – someone who both fires his passion and inspires his respect.

Research biologist Tanora Doyle has come to Mexico for her field work, searching the jungle for medicinal plants. Stubborn, ambitious and bossy, Nora’s not the sort of woman to be wowed by a man, even someone as attractive and well-spoken as Enrique. Indeed, since she was raped at gun-point while out jogging, she has pretty much given up on men and sex. Still, when she shows up in Enrique’s office with a broken wrist, Enrique’s almost certain she’s the special someone he’s been seeking. Now all he has to do is convince Tanora of this fact.

Prescription for Love is a lusty, enjoyable erotic romance with two distinctive and appealing protagonists. Ms. McGier’s love scenes really sizzle. Her characters take their time, enjoying every touch and tease. If you’re looking for hot, mutually satisfying sex, this book (like everything I’ve read by this author) really delivers.

From a plot perspective, I found the novel somewhat less impressive. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, and they have hot sex, as expected in erotic romance. However, the primary conflict, Tanora’s scars from her rape, seems to be resolved much too easily.

Meanwhile, I didn’t find the attempted rape later in the book very plausible. I mean, the scene itself was vivid and well-written, but the notion that the local men with whom she’d already traveled into the jungle would suddenly turn around and become rapists seemed a bit strange. Tanora’s smart, and it seems she would never have trusted creatures as loathsome as the would-be-rapists.

Finally, I found Enrique’s and Tanora’s cavalier attitude toward birth control surprising and distressing. I understand the erotic kick that comes from bearing your soul mate’s child. I believe this is why the author included the pregnancy element in the book. However, it really doesn’t seem that a cautious and methodological person like Tanora would leave contraception to chance – especially since her own mother had serious problems with childbirth. At the same time, the notion that a medical doctor would encourage unplanned pregnancy struck me as slightly horrifying.

None of these issues kept me from enjoying the book. However, I know from experience that Fiona McGier can do better.

The Ingredients of Bliss - #MFRWHooks #BDSMRomance #Menage

Ingredients of Bliss cover

For today’s Book Hooks hop, I’ve picked out a never-before-shared excerpt from my BDSM ménage romance novel, The Ingredients of Bliss. I had a lot of fun writing this, at least partially because I could work in a lot of memories from a trip to France I’d taken the year before I wrote it – including lots of food!

Enjoy!

One sexy French chef. One kinky American TV producer. One ambitious Chinese gal who thinks she wants them both. The ingredients of bliss? Or a recipe for disaster?

Accomplished cook Mei Lee ‘Emily’ Wong knows exactly what she wants—her own show on the Tastes of France food channel. But life is full of complications. First, her deceptively nerdy producer, Harry Sanborne, initiates Emily into the delights of submission. Then her boss, legendary chef Etienne Duvalier, begs her to dominate him. Emily just can’t resist—especially when Harry orders her to explore her inner mistress. Suave and sexy Etienne will do whatever she asks—in the bedroom if not in the kitchen. And Harry, her lovingly diabolical Dom, adores pushing Emily’s limits.

When the network sends the trio to France to shoot a series of cooking shows on location, Emily knows her career is on the upswing. Her plans fall apart in Marseille as a Hong Kong drug syndicate kidnaps both Etienne and Harry. The Iron Hammer Triad mistakes Etienne for notorious gangster Jean Le Requin, who has stolen their drug shipment, worth millions. Emily realizes she must find the real Le Requin, retrieve the purloined dope, and bargain it for Harry’s and Etienne’s lives. The secret she’s been keeping from Harry might prove useful. Still, what chance does one woman whose knife skills are limited to chopping vegetables, have against the ruthless cruelty of two criminal organizations?

“‘Silk worker’s brains’? Are you joking, Etienne?”

Not at all. You’ve never encountered cervelle de canut? A Lyonnais specialty, and quite delicious, I might add.”

Morning sunlight poured through tall windows into the demonstration kitchen of the École Supériore de Cuisine Lyonnais, the site for our show that afternoon. Seated side by side at a butcher block table, Etienne and I pored over drafts of menus and recipes. I was trying to ignore the effects his closeness had on the speed of my pulse and the humidity of my pussy.

Er—do you really think our American audience will be interested in brains?” We Chinese have a reputation for eating almost anything—I have a particular fondness for zhafeichang, deep fried pork intestines with sweet bean sauce—but I knew that Westerners tended to be more squeamish.

No brains are actually involved, Mei Lee. The dish is based on fromage blanc, seasoned with fresh herbs, shallots, olive oil and vinegar. Very savory, I assure you, and unique to the Lyon region.”

All right—whatever you recommend.”

Etienne shot me a sharp look, as though he found my acquiescence surprising. Today he looked devastating, as usual, in a blindingly white dress shirt tucked into narrow black jeans. He had rolled up his sleeves. The red-gold hair dusting his forearms was very distracting. I knew how soft it was.

We’ll do quenelles de brochet, Lyonnais potatoes of course, salade Lyonnais with bacon and poached egg, and marrons glacés for dessert. Do you think that’s enough?”

For an hour-long show? Plenty. I’ve never made the quenelles, though.

You’ll find them straightforward. Baked fish, bread crumbs, egg yolk, a standard cream sauce—quite simple.”

I’d sampled quenelles the previous evening, while dining at a classic bouchon with Harry and Etienne and thought them a bit bland. To be honest, though, I hadn’t really paid much attention to the food for which Lyon was renowned. My senses were too dazzled by the proximity of my two lovers. Although I’d consumed only one glass of the robust Beaujolais presented by the rotund proprietor, I’d felt totally intoxicated, joy bubbling through my veins like champagne.

My mind wandered, reviewing the marvels of the last twenty-four hours.

After the astonishing night with Harry and Etienne in Paris, the routine details of traveling felt completely unreal. Along with the rest of the crew, we’d piled onto the bus for the four hour drive to Lyon. I’d shared my seat with Lisa, not wanting to encourage any gossip. I’m afraid I hadn’t been very sociable. I’d been preoccupied with recollections of the night’s pleasures. Whenever we’d stopped for a bathroom break, I’d felt the eyes of both men following me. I’d spent the entire trip in a fever of anticipation.

Once we’d arrived and settled into the hotel, they’d whisked me away to the narrow, cobbled lanes of the medieval Old Town. We’d roamed the streets together, poking our heads into cramped souvenir shops, sampling bits of sausage and cheese, pausing in a café facing the majestic Cathédrale St-Jean to admire the sunset behind the hills of Fourvière.

The golden summer dusk had slipped gradually into a violet evening. Every sensory impression had possessed a sort of magical clarity—the lilt of children’s voices as they’d kicked a ball around the cathedral square, the twittering of starlings wheeling above the tiled roofs, the saliva-inducing smell of grilling pork emanating from the open doors of traditional bistros, the anise flavor of the Ricard that Etienne had ordered for Harry and me. The warmth of the balmy night and the heat coming from my lover’s bodies. I’ll remember this all my life, I’d thought, gazing at them in the deepening gloom.

They’d kept touching me. A brush of casual fingers against my thigh. An arm encircling my waist. A powerful hand, clasping and squeezing mine. We’d spoken of superficialities, the history of the city, the show the next day, which restaurant we should choose for dinner. The silent messages we’d exchanged had dealt with different topics all together.

Old Town quarter of Lyon

She couldn’t chance him knowing who she was if his buddies were looking for her. It didn’t seem likely, given his easy-going personality and what he’d already revealed about himself. However, risking anything at this point wasn’t wise. “Why is my name important?”

Are you a movie star or some kind of internet sensation?” He worked his mouth to stop his smile. “Afraid I’ll recognize you from your name rather than how you look at this point?”

A drowned dog probably had her beat in the beauty department. Hardly caring, she rubbed the blanket over her lenses to dry them but left thick smears instead.

This might work better.” He pulled a rag from his back pocket. “It’s clean.”

After taking it, she worked on her glasses, uncertain whether to feel bad for treating him like a criminal or to maintain her caution as to what he might do next. Vigilance won out. “Anything else you can tell me about yourself?” She pushed the rag in her jacket pocket. “Like why you’re up here alone— You are alone, right?”

He scratched his stubbled cheek. “If you’re asking if I have a wife and kids, it’s a firm no on both counts. There’s no long-term girlfriend in my cabin either. How about you? You running from an ex-husband, ex-lover, or a current one in those two categories?”

Why are you in the middle of nowhere?”

New muttering beneath his breath. “Because I like it?”

She swore.

Easy.” He used the same voice on her that he had with Caesar.

For some reason, it didn’t piss her off but made her tired instead. “I can’t tell you how much it’d help if you gave me some details as to who you are.”

Understanding and kindness rose in his eyes. “Fair enough. I’m former military, Army.” He lifted his slicker. Beneath it, he wore a Ranger sweatshirt. “When I left the service, I came home to Montana. Had a chance to get this property and took it.”

That didn’t make sense. “You’re so rich you bought this place and don’t have to work any longer?”

He grinned, his smile wide and inviting. “Don’t I wish, but no. Even if I had the funds, I’d still want to keep busy and offer my assistance to anyone who needs it. I’m in security, so to speak. I work on assignment. When each ends, I return here to wait for my next call.”

Sincerity rang in his voice and showed on his luscious face. More importantly, he wanted to help people. Still… She’d been cautious for so long, her misgiving lingered. “What did you mean by ‘so to speak’. It’s either security or it’s not. Which is it?”

Do you always ask so many questions?”

She bounced in place. “I don’t know you.”

Hey, I gave you my blanket, I’ve offered to call for help to get your car out, and I don’t know you either. Not even your name. Is it a secret?”

She looked to the side. “Kenzie Caltrane.”

Was that so hard?”

His softened tone and big body called to her as few things had. She was fucking weary and scared, and simply wanted to melt into his arms and beg him to make things better. Which he couldn’t. One man who worked security didn’t have that power. Damn, getting involved in her problems might get him killed, too. “You shouldn’t have stopped to help.”

Why not?”

Because you can’t.” The tears she’d held back for weeks poured out, turning into hitching sobs. “You’ll get hurt.”

Hey, hey.” He gathered her to him in a protective caress. “Nothing’s that bad. No one’s that powerful. If your current or ex, or whatever, is after you, I can get you to a safe place and—”

You can’t stop the entire government.” She pushed away. “You can’t stop an assassin.”

His features slackened. “What?”

She put out her hand, warning him to keep his distance. “Go back to your cabin. Pretend you never saw me. Forget my damn name.” A new sob caught in her throat. “You can’t help.”

Calm down, please.” He lifted his hands but didn’t touch her. “I’m not going anywhere. I sure as hell don’t intend to leave you out here alone to face whatever—”

You. Have. To.” She edged back. “There’s no choice. If you think you can call 9-1-1 and fix this, it isn’t possible. The federal government is involved. They’ll bury you.”

Alarm sparked in his eyes then faded, resolve replacing it. “Involved in what? What are you talking about? Who are you?”

For once, she got in his face. “I’m a toxic truth to the feds and others. They don’t want me around. That’s why they’ve put a hit out on me.”
