Capturing Inspiration, Waiting for Energy - #WritersNotebook #AmWriting #Series

If you’re an author, you’ve probably been advised to carry a notebook with you all the time – the way a photographer always carries a camera. The idea is that you can use the notebook whenever inspiration strikes: to jot down story ideas, snippets of conversation, or paragraphs of text that come to mind.

I’ve had a notebook for more than ten years. It lives in a cubby in my headboard. I don’t bring it out on the street at least partly because the contents could be compromising if someone else read them. Also, I don’t want to lose my ideas. Finally, I seem to get much of my inspiration in bed. Wipe those thoughts from your dirty mind! What I mean is that I’m much more likely to come up with ideas after my work day is through, when I’m relaxing and reading as I normally do before going to sleep. I also am prone to erotic dreams; I want to have some place to write them down before the emotions vanish.

When I browse through the notebook, I find plenty of thoughts about stuff I haven’t written (at least not yet). It’s also gratifying, though, to notice how many concepts I actually have fleshed out and published. Sometimes there’s a long lag between the appearance of an idea and its realization. I might have an inspiration, but not be able to devote the necessary time or energy to bring it to fruition.

I’ve decided this shouldn’t bother me. Sometimes, I’m just not ready to follow my ideas.

This weekend, I started work on a series I outlined in my notebook more than six years ago. At that time, I was writing almost exclusively erotic romance, for an indie publisher. I’d realized that my colleagues had better sales when they wrote series rather than standalone titles, and thought I should give it a go. So I roughed out the framework for a set of steampunk books entitled The Toy Makers Guild.

The basic premise: a remote mansion in an alternative Victorian England, where a group of brilliant young engineers (male and female) create customized, automated sex toys for wealthy and influential clients. Of course, anyone who worked in such an environment would need to be both sexually liberal and sexually knowledgeable. A bit of a taste for dominance and submission would also be appropriate, given the British love of corporal punishment.

This notion set the creative juices flowing. At the time, though (I see now), I just wasn’t ready to write a series. Plus I was having a hard time reconciling my notions about the free-wheeling sexual environment in the Guild with the constraints of the erotic romance genre.

Fast forward to 2020. I’ve written two series at this point (Vegas Babes and Asian Adventures). I have a much better understanding of how to link a set of books together. My imagination is less likely to shut down after I write “The End” for a single book. Meanwhile, I’m now self-publishing almost all my work, which means I don’t have to follow anyone’s rules about genre or what is and is not acceptable.

So I’m happy to announce that I’ve written the first two chapters of The Pornographer’s Apprentice, which will be the first book in The Toy Makers Guild series. I have titles and plans for the next two as well – they’re right there in the notebook – though of course my ideas may change as I write.

That’s okay. The purpose of the notebook is to capture ideas, not to constrain them.

Stay tuned!

Get your copy today! Only $1.99! (Links at the end of the post.)

By the way, if you leave a comment, I will enter you in a drawing to win a copy of Asian Adventures Book 1, Singapore Fling.

Blurb

Lust can be a revelation.

The woman in the window seat to my right had more flesh than I’d usually find attractive, and most of it was on display. But she wasn’t trying to tease. Every detail—the silver hoops in her earlobes, the teakwood clasp in her hair, the anklet decorating her high-arched foot—broadcast confidence and a healthy disdain for anyone else’s opinion. A woman alone, on a public conveyance, in a foreign country, Helen nevertheless looked thoroughly at home.

And me? Traveling outside of the U.S. for the first time in my life, I was nervous, inexperienced, awkward and excited. Especially excited. With Helen in the next seat, who wouldn’t be?

Excerpt

She was practically naked.

I tried not to stare as I clambered barefoot onto the bus that would take us from the steamy, crowded streets of Saigon to the Dalat highlands. My sandals stuffed into a plastic bag provided by the management, I peered at my ticket and tried to locate the corresponding seat. Well, “seat” wasn’t exactly the appropriate word. Three double-tiered racks of padded, bed-like recliners ran from the front to the back, one on each side of the bus and one down the middle, with narrow aisles between them. This was a “sleeping bus”, designed for the twelve to twenty hour overnight trips common in Vietnam.

A or B?”

What?” She was obviously talking to me. I had to look at her.

The woman in the window seat to my right had more flesh than I’d usually find attractive, and most of it was on display. Her light, floral-patterned sundress had spaghetti straps, one of which had slipped down over her smooth shoulder. Her massive breasts shifted underneath, every time she moved. The short hem rode up to expose her big but surprisingly firm thighs. She was fair-haired with a peaches-and-cream complexion—her accent suggested she was a Brit. The dress was thin enough, though, that I could make out darker patches surrounding her nipples.

Your seat number.” She gestured at the ticket dangling from my fingers. Her lush tits swayed. “A is down here; B is on the upper level.”

Oh—um—A. 12 A.” Geez. Working on my PhD and I couldn’t manage a coherent sentence.

That’s right here, next to me.” She flashed me an easy smile, pointing to the middle row. “A pity, you won’t have as good a view. Of course, if you have any tendency toward motion sickness, the middle is better.”

The other strap flopped down her arm. Idly, she pushed it back into place. “I’m Helen,” she said, sitting up a bit, so that her breasts bounced. She offered her hand—short fingernails, clear lacquer, a silver ring on the thumb.

Her skin was as soft as it looked. “Geri,” I replied, struggling to ignore the accelerating pulse between my legs.

Sizzling Sunday: Singapore Fling - #romance #Asia #crossdressing #SizzlingSunday

Sizzling Sunday banner

For today’s Sizzling Sunday, I’ve got an excerpt from Singapore Fling, the first volume in my Asian Adventures series.

I’ll be releasing Asian Adventures Book 6 soon. Stay tuned!

Blurb

In the cleanest city in Asia, things can still get messy.

Thai entrepreneur Ploy Kaewkornwattanasakul has come to Singapore to close a deal. Ploy needs to convince tech whiz Jason Chow to license his ground-breaking innovation to her company on favorable terms. The future of her startup depends on her negotiating skill. When she meets Jason, though, she realizes she wants not just the invention, but the inventor, too.

Jason Chow is a brilliant engineer, a successful businessman and a bit of a rebel. He’s attracted to Ploy from the moment he sets eyes on her. However, he doesn’t dare respond to her advances, for fear she’ll discover his secret vice.

Ploy doesn’t understand why the sexy CEO has rejected her. She figures she’ll have to content herself with the cold comfort of a signed contract—unless the strength of Jason’s desire overwhelms his shame.

Excerpt

They’d reached the center of the park, where the trees grew more densely. “This way,” said Jason, speaking for the first time since they’d started up the hill. He slipped through a gap in a wall of mature bamboo. Ploy was amazed to find herself in a grassy clearing. A concrete wall rose opposite them, completely covered by vines. A tiny waterfall trickled down through the vegetation in one corner, into a moss-lined culvert.

This is my favorite spot,” he continued. “Tucked away next to the reservoir. Sometimes I come here by myself, to think.”

It’s beautiful,” Ploy replied. “But why—?”

Jason cut her question short. He grabbed her shoulders, dragged her into an embrace, and glued his mouth to hers, forcing his tongue inside. The shock paralyzed her for an instant. Then her lust roared back, hotter than ever. Tilting her face up, she opened herself to his frenzied kiss, confused but more than ready to meet him halfway.

He clutched her to his chest, holding her tight, as if she’d keep him from drowning. She slid her palms down his back, all hard muscle under his business shirt, until she reached his ass. Gripping his butt cheeks, she pulled him closer. Because of his height, his swollen cock pressed against her belly, halfway between her navel and her pubis. That wasn’t going to work.

She dragged at his shirt, urging him downward. He broke the kiss and sank to his knees, taking her down with him, then rolled onto his back, with her on top. The bulge in his groin slotted into the gap between her thighs. He ground that lovely bulk against her clit. Even through her skirt and her underwear, the friction felt delicious.

Oh, Jason,” she murmured, her cheek against his chest. His heart was going so fast she could hardly separate the beats. Meanwhile his hands scrabbled at her clothing, trying without success to tug it out of the way.

Wait! Wait a minute!” Ploy sat up, opening her legs so she could straddle him, his hardness snug against her pussy. She gazed down at him. Behind his geeky glasses, his eyes were unfocused. He panted through parted lips. Already there were grass stains on his white shirt.

Are you sure about this?” she asked.

With a vigorous nod, he reached up to unbutton her blouse.

She swatted his hand away. “Wait! What if someone comes along the path? What if we’re discovered?” She was pretty sure public sex was illegal in Singapore. Almost everything else was.

I don’t care,” he answered, his voice breaking with emotion. “I want you, Ploy. I need you. I can’t hold back any longer.”

Back List Blast: Singapore Fling - #multicultural #eroticromance #BackListBlast #giveaway

Today’s Back List Blast feature is another volume in my Asian Adventures series. I’ve written quite a few multicultural stories. Singapore Fling is a bit unusual for me in that both main characters are non-Caucasian.

If you’re looking for an upbeat, funny, romantic tale, I recommend this book. Only $1.99!

And I know you must be bored with my reminders... but please leave a comment so you can win!

Excerpt

No sooner had Ploy pushed the dish away than a uniformed staff member rolled up next to her with a plastic bin of dirty utensils. It took no more than a few seconds for the employee to grab the bowl, balance it on top of a pile, wipe the table clean, and disappear.

Ploy glanced around the open space. Every table was full, most with multiple people, eating with single-minded determination. Clearly at the height of lunch hour, available tables were rare. Throughput was critical.

Probably she should vacate her table, but she didn’t like feeling pressured. Anyway, she’d just paid the equivalent of two hundred baht for a single bowl of not-very-exciting noodles. For that price, she could buy a full dinner in Bangkok. She had the right to sit here for a while.

She glanced around at the other customers in the busy, noisy hawker center, a mixture of shoppers and business people judging by their clothing. Most alternated between animated conversation and shoveling food into their mouths. Others sat glued to their phones, swiping away with one hand while manipulating chopsticks in the other. Everyone seemed to be in a hurry.

Three tables away, though, she noticed an anomaly: a solitary young man, reading a hard cover book. She couldn’t make out the title at that distance—it could have been in Chinese, for all she could tell—but whatever it was, it completely engrossed him. He was oblivious to the bustle around him, including the frequent accusatory looks he received from the cleaning staff.

A real, printed book! Ploy was surprised to see anyone his age opting for dead trees as opposed to a touch screen.

There was nothing remarkable about the man himself. A bit taller than average for a Singaporean, slender but not skinny, he had typical Chinese features. He wore the dark pants and white shirt, sleeves rolled up, that was the common business uniform in the steamy climate. His slightly shaggy black hair fell into his eyes as he bent over the book. A pair of dark-framed glasses and a phone rested on the table next to him.

Something about his utter stillness drew her, though. Attracted her, in fact. She found his focused concentration exciting. This was a man with a powerful will, a person who had no difficulty ignoring what did not concern him. A bit of a rebel, too, given his willingness to flaunt social convention in this aggressively polite city. Like her, he wasn’t about to bow to the unreasonable demands of his inferiors.

Book Hooks: Dragon Boat Blues - #MMF #AsianAdventures #MFRWHooks

Book Hooks Banner

Looking back over my MFRW Book Hooks, I noticed I hadn’t done one for the most recent book in my Asian Adventures series, Dragon Boat Blues. Thought I should remedy that!

After you enjoy my brief excerpt, I hope you’ll visit some of the other authors participating in today’s blog hop. You’ll find their links at the end of the post.

Blurb

My lost superhero Josh had jet black hair, movie star cheekbones, clever hands, the devil’s mouth, and an instinct for driving me crazy. Josh believed in his own myths. He was forty miles an hour over the speed limit that day, more powerful than a locomotive, when we smashed into the tractor trailer. He blew out like a candle. I sputtered in a sort of half life, year after year, marked forever by that brief dance with insanity.

I booked the dragon boat cruise on Ha Long Bay to use up a few free days at the end of my business trip, figuring my disability wouldn’t be a problem on the luxurious junk. I wasn’t looking for companionship, just a bit of peace. But when British honeymooners Stan and Phil welcomed me into their circle of love, I discovered how much healing I still needed.

The Hook

I didn’t have much difficulty getting into the dinghy—just handed my cane to the guide, sat on the pier, and eased myself down to sit with the rest of the tourists. Boarding the wooden junk anchored out in deeper water was another story. A ladder of planks and rope led from the open rowboat to the deck above. To climb, I would have to put all my weight on my bad leg. I knew that wouldn’t work.

I balanced precariously in the dinghy, surveying the situation. Maybe this was a bad idea after all.

Up you come, love.” The speaker leaned over the rail of the junk, offering a ham-sized paw. “Give us your hand.” He had a ruddy complexion and a curly russet mop threaded with gray.

Are you sure? I’m not exactly light.” I’d never been petite, and since the accident, I’d put on quite a few pounds.

No problem,” said his younger, sandy-haired companion. “We’re used to tossing hay bales.” He shot me a friendly grin and extended his arm in parallel with his friend’s. “Just hold on tight. That’s the way.”

I gripped their wrists. They did the same to me. As they began to haul me upward, the dinghy captain clamped me around the waist and lifted me off my feet. My good leg flailed, trying for a foothold on the rungs of the ladder. It was all very awkward and embarrassing, but in a few moments I was standing safe on the deck.

The guide passed me my cane, then scrambled up the ladder like a monkey.

You alright?” The burly older man shot a wry look at the tangled rope contraption the guide was pulling over the gunwale. “Not exactly accessible, that.”

Thanks for your help.” My long shirt had bunched up below my breasts. I smoothed it down over my leggings, feeling flustered and sweaty. “Probably I should have thought about that before I booked the cruise.”

C’mon! And miss this?” My other rescuer made a sweeping gesture, indicating the lavishly appointed ship. “All this carved teak and polished brass?” The crimson sails over our heads snapped in the wind as the junk began to move. “Ha Long Bay’s supposed to be one of the wonders of the world. We’ve been saving to take this trip for three years.”

Asian Adventures - #SingaporeFling #Asia #series

Asia”. The word conjures a wealth of imagery and emotions. Exotic. Mysterious. Enigmatic. Alien. Even today, when jets routinely circle the globe, Asia feels strange and faraway.

For me, though, it’s home.

I’ve lived in several Asian countries, and visited many more, though there are still some I haven’t managed to get to—yet! More than a decade ago, for both economic and social reasons, my DH and I relocated to Southeast Asia. I prefer not to specify exactly which country since the powers-that-be in that nation tend to be conservative about sex, at least officially. If they knew Lisabet Sarai resided within their borders... well, I’d rather they didn’t!

Almost immediately, I felt comfortable in my adopted home. Things that are important in most Asian countries—tradition, family, personal relationships, food—are important to me, too. I also loved the dynamism of the region. Asia is changing much faster than America or Europe. It’s exciting to watch and contribute to the unfolding new society. The energy is contagious.

My love affair with Asia actually began much earlier, though. On our first date, more than thirty years ago, my husband told me tales of his extensive travels. I listened, fascinated and envious, as he painted word pictures of Balinese volcanoes, Malaysian jungles and Thai temples. Our first international trip, not long after we married, was to Hong Kong. Working as teachers, we lived in Thailand for two years in the nineteen eighties. The central location that made it easy to explore the region. After that, we were hooked.

Given my long experience with Asia, it’s probably not surprising that quite a few of my stories are set there. Recently I decided to create a series of short ebooks, erotic romance tales that unfold in different Asian countries. The first to be published was Singapore Fling, set (as you might guess) in that high-tech city-state. I’ve brought out four additional titles so far, set in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. The next story (Asian Adventures Book 6) will be set in Hokkaido, Japan.

Here’s a bit about the first Asian Adventure.

Excerpt

The two men left her alone to peruse the agreement. A hint of Jason’s scent lingered, though. She tried to ignore it, forcing herself to digest the legalese in front of her.

By the time she reached the bottom of the first page, she was smiling. The smile grew broader as she read further. The contract was generous. More than generous. Exclusive use of Interia technology in Thailand and unlimited technical support, in return for joint branding and a royalty percentage two points lower than what she’d been prepared to offer.

This might be just the push ShopGuru needed to go viral.

Jason stuck his head in the door. “Finished yet?”

She turned her smile in his direction. “Yes. I have.”

And?”

It looks highly satisfactory.” Try as she would, she couldn’t keep the glee out of her voice.

Do you want to run it by your own lawyers?”

Probably she should do so. However, she didn’t want Jason to get any second thoughts about the terms. Plus lawyers cost money.

No, I’m happy to sign it as is.”

Excellent. Ravi is here as a witness.” Jason leaned over her to put a second copy of the document on the table. The heat radiating from his body rekindled her carefully controlled desire. “If you’ll give us your signature here—” He pointed to a blank space. She couldn’t help noticing the smooth, hairless skin of his forearm. “And initial here.”

She followed his instructions, struggling to keep her feelings in check.

And if I could just borrow your pen...” Electricity jumped between them as his fingers grazed hers.

She cursed to herself. Why couldn’t she have gotten the hots for someone normal?

Sizzling Sunday: Dragon Boat Blues - #Vietnam #MMF #SizzlingSunday

Sizzling Sunday banner

Welcome to another Sizzling Sunday! Today I’ve got a spicy bit from the latest in my Asian Adventures series, Dragon Boat Blues, just released last Friday. The story is an MMF ménage romance set in Vietnam.

Blurb

Take your chances as they come

Excerpt

Won’t you let me pleasure you, sweet?” He slid his palms up, closer to my center. “I’m dying to taste you.”

I don’t think—please… Oh, Stan…” I could have stopped him as he hooked the elastic waistband of my leggings and peeled them down over my hips, baring the untrimmed brown tangle of my pubis. But why bother? He’d stop by himself when he saw what lay beneath.

Stan paused, breathing in my strong scent. “Oh, Lydia!” He leaned closer, lips parted, nostrils flaring. “Let me get these off you…”

With a deftness I wouldn’t have expected from a gay man, he stripped me of the footless tights. I raised my butt to help. Why postpone the inevitable?

The horror that lit his face when he saw my scars gave me a sort of grim satisfaction.

My God! I had no idea.” With a hesitant finger, he traced the livid, cross-stitched track that ran from below my knee to my groin, just one of the puckered, discolored souvenirs I bore from my nine operations. “Do they hurt?”

Somehow I kept my voice neutral. “From time to time. Most of the pain comes from the joints, though, where the prostheses interact with the bone. The doctors did the best they could, I suppose, but there’s a limit to what medicine can accomplish...” Tears threatened again. I dashed them away with the back of my hand. “You should probably go now.”

Stan looked startled. “Oh, no, love…” He bent to my ravaged flesh and licked along the length of the scar. I shuddered at the wet heat. “Oh, no,” he murmured, so close to my pussy that I felt the vibrations, deep inside. “I want you more than ever.”

He drew my thighs apart, parted my labia with his blunt thumbs, and blew a stream of hot air over my cunt. Fiery pleasure leapt up in response. I think I moaned. Taking that as encouragement, he swept his tongue through my folds, back to front, ending with a flick to my rapidly swelling clit.

Like a speeding train, arousal hit me, smashing my reservations into insignificance. I sank my fingers into his lush hair and dragged his face to my pussy. He didn’t offer the slightest resistance. Burrowing into my cleft, he devoured my soaked sex-flesh, licking, sucking, probing my depths, fluttering over my clit, until I was half-crazy with need. I ground my pelvis against his plump lips. I impaled myself upon his stout tongue. I took what I wanted, what I so desperately craved, smothering him in my cunt, drowning him in my juices. Arching against his mouth, I clung to his skull like a life raft as my orgasm swept over me in liquid fury.
