Blurb

Jailed for no reason he knows or understands, Kurby has decided it’s easier to live in hiding as a Pallas’s cat than it would ever be as a man in the council prison. That is until Councilman Elija Hamilton walks into his cell.

Finding his mate in a prison cell is not something he ever expected but damned if he was going to refuse the man. Kurby was his and no matter what he would have him.

When Kurby’s life is threatened there is nothing Elija wouldn’t do to keep his mate safe even if it meant unleashing his Chupacabra.

Excerpt

Kurby sniffled, “I feel so...so...violated.”

I know, sweet kitty and I wish there was something I could do to take that feeling away, but only time will do that. However, I will be right here with you...holding you...drying your tears and loving you any way I can until that day comes and beyond.” Elija whispered kissing the top of Kurby’s head.

Kurby pulled back and looked at Elija with wide eyes. “Lo...loving me?”

Elija smiled and brushed Kurby’s bangs back, “Of course loving you. Gods, Kurby I know it seems fast for you, but for me...I was raised by shifters. I knew I loved you the moment I set eyes on you and in the days we’ve been together I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with you.”

But...But ... I...I mean...”

Shaking his head, Elija softly kissed his mate. “Kurby, I don’t expect you to say anything. It’s fine. I understand and I agreed to give you time and I plan on doing just that. However, I will also be honest with you. I will never lie or hold anything back...unless it’s a council thing then I might not have a choice. Otherwise, I am an open book to you and that includes me telling you that I love you.”

How can you? You don’t even know me. Yes, we’ve spent some time together, but...but...” Kurby licked his lips, rushing to say, “It has to be that pull thingy. The one that makes us want each other to begin with.”

Kurby, listen to me. A mate bond doesn’t force us to mate. It can’t. Even the gods knew this. That’s why they said our gifts transfer when it’s time for us to find our mate and have that time to bond. If we don’t bond then we will remain whatever our mate’s form is...even if that’s human. Yes, our bond tells us that you are perfect for me. It tells me that I will want no other like I want you and yes, it will encourage me to sink my teeth into your neck and make you mine. However, it doesn’t force me to love you. You did that.”

How did I do that?” Kurby asked curiously.

Elija snorted, “By being you. How else? It has nothing to do with how sexy you are...even if I think you are the sexiest man I have ever set eyes on. Kurby, your strength in heart and spirit as well as your intelligence gives me the shivers and makes my cock so hard I hurt. The way you are with the children here...”

Elija smiled at Kurby’s surprised look and continued. “Yes, I’ve seen you with them. In and out of human form you are playing with them and making them laugh and if one of them are hurt your cat will cuddle up with them and help take away their tears. The way you worry about your family and are willing to do anything to help them...even give up your own family. Gods, Kurby, to be willing to sacrifice everything for someone you love the way you did...it’s not something I’ve seen much of in my life. To be mated to a man so willing to give everything to those he loves...it’s just...how the hell couldn’t I love you?”

Kurby didn’t say anything right away, but then said, “I can’t say I love you this very minute, Elija but...but I can say I do care for you...a lot. I just...I ...”

Elija cupped the side of Kurby’s face and then leaned in and gave his mate another soft kiss, whispering, “I already told you it’s okay, sweet kitty. I just refuse to hold my feelings in. There’s no rush. Now how about we give your parents a call?”

JP has introduced me to things like; canoeing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and has taken me to some of the most beautiful locations. Ones that I had only ever seen on a computer or read about in books. I may miss my mountains and my boys, but have discovered that when you work towards your dreams, the future can be one filled with happiness and love. My boys are only a plane ride away, and Skype is a glorious thing. So I say, on to my next adventure…don’t be shocked to find it in one of my books.

Music is Everything - #PNR #ShapeShifters #Alcoholism @chris4lamb

Tiger's Last Chance cover

By Christina Lynn Lambert (Guest Blogger)

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved music. I remember having a radio in my room and being amazed at the new songs I heard. I noticed how each song told a story with not only words but rhythm and instruments. When I got a tape player, I listened to Africa by Toto over and over. It’s still one of my favorite songs. More than anything else ever has, the notes of a song can soothe me when I’m upset. A good, fast paced song can energize me when I need to get things done. I can turn up the volume and sing when I’m alone, especially when I’m driving down the road. The energy of a crowd at a concert can be inspiring. The connection to everyone around me singing the same song is incredible and beautifully impermanent.

I usually have music playing in the background when I write. If I’m sitting down at the computer or on the sofa with my pen and notebook, steadily laying down the words or trying to fix the words that need rearranging, I have on slower, smoother music— maybe Pink Floyd, Enya, Elton John, or Credence Clearwater Revival. I just let the sound fade to the background. If I’m trying to think up scenes and ideas, I usually get up and do something like go for a walk or a bike ride, even washing the dishes or taking a shower helps to get me unstuck when I can’t think of what to write next. When I’m searching for ideas, I tend to have the music loud and prefer something with a faster beat like Rush, Social Distortion, 80s music, metal, ska, even movie soundtracks.

In my latest novel, Tiger’s Last Chance (Stranger Creatures book 3), the hero, Sean, is a recovering alcoholic and music is his lifeline when things get too intense for him to bear. The song “Ball and Chain” by Social Distortion is playing in Sean’s truck in the first chapter of the story because that song kept popping up in my head as I wrote his character. For Sean, music is the temporary armor that gave him strength and peace while he healed. And I think music is a temporary armor for many. The rhythm and sound give us joy and comfort in the darkest times.

Blurb

While working a case, Sean Whitman is tortured for information, drugged, and bitten against his will by a shape shifter. The fallout leaves him jobless, friendless, and dumped by his girlfriend. Needing a fresh start, he leaves town and opens a private investigation business. Learning to live life sober isn’t easy, but he makes it to the two year mark.

When Detective Nikki Jackson with the Great Oaks, Virginia Police Department calls him, accusing him of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s house, Sean can’t help but like the sound of her voice, despite her ridiculous accusations. He’s shocked when she calls him back with an apology then asks for his help as a consultant on a case. On the phone, her sweet, slightly Southern voice captivates him. In person, she's unlike any other woman he's encountered, and nearly impossible to resist. But could the sexy detective ever want a man like him?

After Nikki’s last dating disaster, the mountain lion shifter has sworn off men. Then she meets Sean, and with every second she spends around the tall, dark-eyed man, her resolve crumbles. But for some reason, despite the undeniable attraction between them, Sean seems determined to push her away.

An investigation into missing refugees leaves Nikki with more questions than answers. Her refusal to let the matter drop leads her to the discovery of a radical political group’s horrifying plot for dominance. Traitors are embedded within the very organizations meant to keep shifters safe. As the list of people she can trust dwindles, Nikki calls on Sean to help her unravel a web of deceit.

As Nikki and Sean fight for survival, his fear of losing her could become a reality. Will he get one last chance to show her he loves her?

Excerpt

For the briefest moment, Nikki felt the depth to which Sean might be capable of pushing her. His kiss was crushing and brutal. His tongue pushed past her lips and his grip in her hair tightened. If desire were a vine, it would have wrapped itself around her veins and encased her heart. The heat between them flooded her. There was a sweetness, too, in his kiss, and the sweetness made her burn hotter.

A polite cough from inside the waiting car put a quick end to things. Sean pulled away and met her gaze. No words, but she got the message. She wasn’t alone. Comfort and friendship; he’d probably meant the kiss to comfort her and had gotten carried away in the heat of the moment. He’d carried her away with him, and she wanted to take him so much further into the unknown.

With each second, each step towards the waiting car, she tried to find reasons and more reasons to ignore her growing attraction to Sean. The number one reason to forget about the kiss they’d shared—relationships were trouble. She had plenty of other amazing things in her life, including her career, her volunteer work, and her band, even though the band rarely played anywhere because the members had trouble aligning their schedules. She didn’t need a man. Besides, he was probably still messed up over Sydney. Also, he was a regular. Or mostly regular. Not to mention he lived over a thousand miles away in Texas. She should tell him the kiss was a mistake. One look at him and she couldn’t bring herself to say the words. The kiss they shared had been anything but a mistake.

A little about me

A few years ago, I read my first romance novel and I was hooked, so much so that I decided to give the idea of writing a story a chance. Love, courage, hope, and second chances are a few of my favorite themes. My stories include a fair amount of sarcasm, suspense, steam, and violence. When I’m not writing, I enjoy spending time outside and finding ways to avoid cooking. I live in beautiful Virginia with my husband, two daughters, and a sweet, hairy monster of a dog.

One last time... #MFRWHooks #Paranormal #Shapeshifters

The Eyes of Bast cover

Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers Book Hooks blog hop. Today I’m sharing a snippet from my paranormal erotic romance The Eyes of Bast. Anyone who’s followed me for a while will know I’m a huge ailurophile (that is, a cat lover). Hence I had great fun writing this feline shape-shifter tale.

Blurb

Trust your heart. Follow your dreams.

Shaina Williamsgrandmother bequeathed her that wisdom, along with an old pendant from the Islands, carved from an ocelots tooth. When instinct tells Shaina to visit the feral cat trap shes set in Central Park, she listens to that inner voice. She discovers shes caged a magnificent black tom, but the cat inexplicably vanishes after she tends to his wounds. Seeking the errant feline, Shaina encounters instead a handsome stranger whose slightest touch sets her body on fire. As the day dawns after a night of ferocious passion, her mysterious lover is forced back into his true shapethe tomcat she rescued.

Born a cat, Tom was transformed into an unwilling shape shifter by a sorceress who craved a human plaything to satisfy her perverse lusts. Centuries old and irresistibly powerful, Delphine Montserrat will stop at nothing to find her runaway familiar. Shaina vows to do whatever is necessary to defeat the vicious but seductive witch and save the man she believes is her soul mateeven though it might mean losing him forever.

The Hook

I drew him against my breasts and, naturally, his lips sought mine. Tabasco and brown sugar flavors mingled with his usual wild and earthy taste. My sex felt sore and inflamed after his most recent ravishment, but that didnt stop me from craving the sensation of his relentless cock pummeling me again. However, with something like resignation, he pushed me away. Residual arousal rippled along my skin.

Tom?

Ive got to go. Every minute we are together increases your danger. Shes somewhere in this city, seeking me. Shell find me, before long. Shell find us and when she does, shell punish you as viciously as she will me.With a grace that almost made me sob, he rose to his feet and headed for the bathroom. If youll lend me some money, I can be on an outbound bus in a couple of hours.

I followed him, standing in the doorway as he splashed water on his face and under his arms, then patted himself dry with my towel. Despite his washing, his musky odor filled the tiny cubicle. I ached to hold him tight, to never release him. Still, I knew that he wouldnt lie to me. He wanted to stay with me. I had no doubt of that, could feel it in my very bones. But he didnt dare.

I watched, feeling totally helpless, as he dressed himself in the jeans and jersey hed worn that evening wed met in the park. Had he left them here? I couldnt recall. All that I remembered was that incredible sense of connectionphysical, emotional, spiritual. How could I let him go?

I slipped into my robe, somehow not wanting to be naked when he was clothed. My mind whirled as I sought some way to keep him with me.

You cant run forever, Tom. Weve got to find her, before she finds us, so we can break the spell.

Find one woman in this hive of eight million souls? His laugh was bitter.Youre dreaming, Shaina.

Gram always told me that dreams point the way to truth.I clasped the pendant I never took off, the one shed given me as a girl, an abstract feminine shape shed told me was carved from an ocelots tooth. The relic from her home island felt warm under my fingers.Youre my dream, Tommy hearts desire. I wont let you go.I squared my shoulders and stepped closer, blocking his route to the door.

Ah, womanI dont want to go.He clasped me to his chest and once again, the world cartwheeled around us. Reeling with desire, I sought his lips and felt him surrender to me. One last time. I could almost hear his thoughts.

Sizzling Sunday: Serpent's Kiss (#SizzlingSunday #pnr #Guatemala)

Sizzling Sunday banner

Welcome to this week’s installment of Sizzling Sunday! My excerpt today comes from deep in my back list, my Mayan themed paranormal erotic romance Serpent’s Kiss. I realized I hadn’t posted anything from this book in ages. So let me remedy that now!

Ancient mysteries control a modern woman's destiny

From the first, Dr. Elena Navarro senses that the wounded man she discovers outside the gates of her rural clinic is not an ordinary mortal. With his chest ripped open, Jorge Pélikal still demonstrates unnatural strength and power.

Elena is irresistibly attracted to Jorge, although he warns her their coupling could open the gates of chaos. She and Jorge fall in love, despite his dire predictions.

Gradually Elena comes to understand that Jorge is a supernatural player in a cosmic drama that will determine the fate of the earth and of mankind - and that even if he triumphs in his apocalyptic struggle with his nemesis, she may lose him forever.

Jorge! Why did you run away?” She gestured for him to join her on the porch. In an instant, he stood in front of her, a half-smile on his full lips.

He grasped her hands. His skin was cool now, and moist like the jungle night. His fever was gone, she realized gratefully. Joy bubbled up in her chest. She almost laughed. She had thought that she would never see him again.

I had no choice. I was in grave danger. And by remaining in your clinic, I was placing you in danger.”

Moving when your chest has been ripped open and is held together by nothing more than a few feeble stitches wasn’t exactly the safest thing to do,” she scolded. “But I’m happy to see that you’re so much better.”

Much better, thanks to you…Elena.” He squeezed her hands. Desire raced through her, sharp, irrational, irresistible. “I’m sorry that I had to return and place you at risk once again. But I left something behind. Something important.”

I know. I have it, hidden safely away.”

He searched her face, apparently trying to determine how much she knew about the feather. “Give it to me, then, and I’ll leave you in peace.”

No.”

What?”

No—I don’t want you to go. I’ll give you the feather, but only if you promise to spend the night with me.” Listening to herself, Elena was appalled. What was she saying?

She had not planned this. She was keeping the feather for him and had honestly intended to return it. But now she wanted him, with a single-mindedness that drove out all reason. She would do anything to satisfy this uncharacteristic desire. She could not let him escape again.

He cupped her cheek in one of his strong brown hands. Elena nearly swooned.

You don’t know what you’re asking, Elena. It’s not possible.”

I know what I want. What I need. And I won’t turn over the feather until you give it to me.”

He removed his hand, leaving her mourning for his touch. “I could force you.” His soft voice rang with power.

Go ahead and try.” Elena’s words were defiant, but there were tears in her eyes.

You don’t understand what you ask. If we couple, you and I, we will open the gates of chaos.” He hovered close, leaning over her, gazing into her eyes. His scent made her dizzy.

I don’t care. So be it.”

His strong arms snaked around her body and pulled her to his chest. “So be it,” he whispered. “As the gods will.”

His mouth captured hers. He sucked away her breath, drained her of her strength. Then he swept his tongue across hers and everything flowed back—strength, breath, awareness, pleasure. She felt his tongue everywhere, on her aching nipples and in the liquid gap between her thighs, tickling the tender lobe of her ear, dancing in the hollow at the base of her throat. Yet she knew, with the tiny kernel of rationality that remained, that his lips had not left hers. This exquisite ballet of sensation was nothing more than an illusion.

Real or imagined, the fluttering tongues quickly carried her to the edge of release. “Please,” she begged, sliding her mouth away from his. “I can’t wait. Make love to me.” He clutched her to him. His erection pressed into her belly like a lump of stone. “You want me, Jorge. Take me.”

Your clothes…” he murmured. In ten seconds, she had them off, her jeans still hanging off one ankle, her blouse a torn heap on the ground. He pulled his shirt over his head and folded it into a pillow for her comfort. Then he bore down on her, taking them both to the floor of the porch.

She untied his drawstring pants and pushed them down around his lean hips. His swollen cock sprang out, an invincible spear of flesh aimed at the sky. She stroked her hand down his length, marvelling at the satiny texture of the skin, the way it sheathed a core of granite. She was suddenly reminded of the feather, simultaneously stiff and soft.

Jorge swept his fingers once through her cleft, as if to assure himself that she was ready. She jumped at his shocking touch, teetering on the precipice. A river of sweet moisture flowed from her, coating his hand. He did not make her wait any longer.
