A Place For Us - #Erotica #BDSM #Publishing @JustineElyot

The Story of Jo cover

By Justine Elyot (Guest Blogger)

Hello, I’m Justine Elyot and I’m here to talk about my new BDSM menage romance, The Story of Jo.

It’s now ten years (this very month) since my first piece of erotic writing was accepted for publication, and things were so very different then that it makes my head spin to think about it.
At the time, epublishing was in its infancy and I was barely aware of it. As far as I was concerned, there was only one UK publisher of erotica, and that was Virgin Books with the Black Lace and Nexus imprints. The way to get your novel published was to hit them with some short stories first, get a relationship going with the editing staff and take things from there. The staff, and the stable of writers, were intelligent, talented people with great senses of humour. I was thrilled to find myself amongst them. Did I even dare to think I might belong there?

Alas, Black Lace disappeared – nobody really knows why still, as they weren’t doing badly – and I had to scatter my fictional seed far and wide. I scattered it towards start-up indies and experimental epublishers, traditional romance houses and the strange new world of self-publishing on Kindle. In the process I met – sometimes virtually, sometimes in the flesh – many more excellent people, all working towards the goal of making a business out of pleasure (hmm, sounds like a good title for a book…).

Not every seed fell on fertile ground. Publishers folded without warning, others shut the gates without explanation, others had no interest in developing a working relationship. Erotica publishing became a tangled thicket. It was hard to find the decent publishers among the fly-by-nights and chancers looking to capitalise on the mega-success of 50 Shades.

It was wonderful to find a new publisher, recommended by trusted colleagues, in the shape of Sinful Press. If you haven’t already, I suggest you have a good look at their back catalogue, which is full of riches. I’m really delighted to publish The Story of Jo with them.

Blurb

I met a man called Emmett, and now I belong to him.”

Twenty-something Jo meets Emmett on a team-building course, and her initial disdain for him soon turns into attraction.

With Emmett’s strong but loving hand to guide her, Jo unleashes her inner submissive and they embark on an intense voyage of sexual discovery.

Their mutual fascination sees them exploring bondage, spanking, toys and more, and their romance is as perfect as Jo could hope for, until another man appears on the scene.

She knows that Emmett hero-worships his former boss and mentor, Charles, but when she finds out that Charles is the man who introduced Emmett to the art of domination, she has no idea how to feel.

With fierce desire growing between the three of them, can they find a way to explore this new dynamic without destroying what they already have?

Excerpt

I want complete control of you in the bedroom,” he said.

The words shocked me to the core, and when I say ‘core’ I mean the area between my legs.

Complete…control,” I repeated breathily.

Within limits,” he amended. “Nothing that will damage or traumatise you, obviously. It’s for your pleasure as much as mine.” He laughed softly and ran a fingertip along my lips. “The look on your face…I’d like to photograph it.”

Are you talking about, y’know, kinky stuff?”

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. You look shocked. Are you shocked?”

Was I?

No,” I said. “I mean…no.”

So you are that way inclined?” He raised an eyebrow.

In theory,” I said. “I’ve read…things. But never done…things.”

But you’d like to do…things?”

Could I admit that I’d dreamed of a man like Emmett, who would come and take possession of my body and my sexuality, relieving me of the irksome responsibility? I’d dreamed of a man who would be dominant yet sensitive, cruel but loving, with a resolutely filthy imagination.

Did he actually exist?

And did I have the courage to find out?

He pulled me in close again.

Do you want me to take you in hand?” he asked, his voice low and sticky in my ear.

God, yes,” I shivered.

Mmm,” his appreciative response turned into a kiss, one of those long, slow, trembly types that only end when your legs start to give way. One hand slid slowly down my spine, moulding itself to the curve of my bottom and squeezing.

You’re still dressed,” he accused, his mouth still close enough for his hot breath to whisper over my skin. Red wine, spearmint, salmon, a bitter coffee note further back.

Sorry.”

He quieted me with another kiss, then set his fingers to work on my shirt.

Review Tuesday: Mind Games by Cecilia Tan - #pnr #BDSM #ReviewTuesday

Mind Games cover

Mind Games by Cecilia Tan
Second edition, Self-published, 2018

Even as a child, Wren had unusual abilities. Sometimes she could sense the future. Sometimes she seemed to hear people’s thoughts. Sometimes her intuition told her things she couldn’t possibly know. Despite her talents, though, she didn’t foresee the tragic death of her parents—a lapse her younger sister Abby has never forgiven.

As an adult, Wren lives a deliberately quiet and solitary life, with her gay neighbor Lawrence as her only real friend. Her attempts to find romance and sexual satisfaction have failed miserably. She has closed herself off, body and mind, afraid of where her psychic powers might lead her. When Abby disappears, though, Wren is forced to act. She enlists the services of private investigator Derek Chapman, who discovers Abby may be associated with a shadowy sex club which has turned up in his research about another missing woman.

Wren and Derek try to keep their relationship professional, but neither can ignore the strong attraction that draws them together. In fact, when they are aroused, they can read each other’s minds. Even as the couple tentatively explores their sexual and emotional connection, Wren is plagued by mysterious erotic dreams involving a seductive, invisible man, and stalked by a shy but persistent stranger from work. Wren senses that the man who has invaded her dreams is connected with the sex club, but when she visits there during the day to ask about Abby, she doesn’t expect to be kidnapped, bound and ravished by multiple people.

Mind Games is a hot paranormal erotic romance with BDSM overtones. Wren is a strong and believable character, psychically precocious and sexually inexperienced, treading water in her life so she can avoid the depths of pain and uncertainty that lie below the surface. Derek is somewhat less compelling, a bit too good to be true with his sensitivity, his consideration and his big cock. The author tried to provide him with some tragic back story, but for some reason I wasn’t convinced by his fears and insecurities. As for Evan, the dream stalker, he’s revealed so late in the tale that there’s no time to really understand or appreciate him. I would have liked to know more about him and his psychically-marked crew, and especially, how Wren fit into their society.

Cecilia Tan has a gift for writing complex, intense, deeply arousing sex scenes, a gift definitely on display in Mind Games. She understands how imagination, emotion and trust ultimately determine the level of eroticism in an experience. When you can read your lover’s thoughts, when you know almost before he does what he craves—and vice versa—of course sex is going to be mind-blowing. I loved the sex in this novel, especially the gradual progression as Derek prepares the essentially virginal Wren, over multiple sessions, for his ultimate penetration. There might be nothing as hot as delayed gratification.

Nevertheless, again and again, I felt that the author was holding back. She toys with BDSM symbols and themes, but never lets herself really explore the power exchange dynamic hidden in this tale. I know this isn’t because of her own personal reticence; nobody writes more convincing and visceral BDSM than Cecilia Tan. I have to assume she wasn’t sure how romance readers would react if she set her imagination free.

The ebook I read includes a several page preview from Ms. Tan’s upcoming book Initiates of the Blood. This graceful, intense, stunningly erotic flogging scene offered a sharp contrast to Mind Games. Of course, Mind Games is a relatively early book for this author, possibly even her first romance after focusing mostly on speculative erotica. Her more recent romances in the Secrets of a Rock Star series show much greater confidence in mingling happily-ever-after with BDSM. I guess even stellar authors like Cecilia Tan improve over time.

In any case, Mind Games is well worth the read, an intelligent, arousing story that will please most fans of paranormal erotic romance.

Why Magic? #romance #giveaway #magic @MichelleGFlye

Becoming Magic cover

By Michelle Garren Flye (Guest Blogger)

To understand my obsession with magic, I have to tell you a little story.

I was about five years old when I saw my first magic show. I remember it only vaguely, with flashes of detail. I remember we had to go downstairs into a basement, and there were small squares of carpet on a concrete floor. All the kids were supposed to choose a carpet square and the magician promised to make one of them fly!

I obediently sat down on a carpet square. I was that kind of kid. Obedient, quiet, never a rule breaker. I remember there were a lot of empty squares around. There were several near me. I don’t remember most of the show. I think he was the typical saw a lady in half, pull a rabbit out of a hat magician. I know he had a pretty assistant because she pulled the number of the magic carpet out of a jar at the end of the show. It happened to a be a tiger-striped carpet square a little ways away from me that no one was sitting on. I know it wasn’t mine, but somehow the pretty assistant decided I was close enough to the magic square to be the one to fly.

How amazing, right? How splendid that I was chosen. I took my little carpet square up, thinking somehow it wasn’t right because it wasn’t the tiger-striped one, but the pretty assistant said it didn’t matter. And she put my carpet square on top of a tall pedestal and sat me down on it and told me to close my eyes and they’d make me fly. But no peeking!

Oh, how I wanted to peek. I wanted to see myself flying. I wanted to see the looks of amazement on the audience’s faces, and all the other kids and my mother! She was there with me, wouldn’t she be surprised to see me flying? But I couldn’t. I had never not done something an adult told me to do. I had never disobeyed a direct order. I wasn’t a rule breaker. And that’s where the real magic came in, isn’t it? Looking back on that show, I wonder, how did the pretty assistant know I wasn’t going to open my eyes in the middle of the act and see the trick?

Even now, forty-some years later, I’m pretty impressed. But more than that, I am grateful because that show began an obsession with magic that I’ve enjoyed for years. I’m not the performing type, but I do love watching and trying to figure out the trick. I love researching the ways tricks are done and watching different magicians perform the same ones. It truly is all in the performance.

It stands to reason that eventually I would want to translate my love of magic into my love of writing. Why not write a series of books about magicians? Magic is romance, magic is fantasy brought to life, magic is…magic.

Connor pulled the linking rings back out of their velvet bag and began practicing with the engagement ring on them. “I may need your help, too.”

With the trick?” She raised her eyebrows. “I’m not sure I’m the one—”

Nonsense. You know how it works. You just have to catch it correctly.” He tossed the ring to her. She caught it neatly, but the engagement ring went flying.

Damn.” She cursed softly. “I thought I could do that.”

No, you weren’t sure. You said so.” He found the engagement ring and replaced it on the linking ring. He fixed her with a stern look. “Be certain.”

Okay.” She shrugged, but she knew what he was talking about. Every movement in magic—or any showmanship, really—had to be done with certainty. No rethinking yourself or doubts allowed. The audience should never be aware that you might not know what you’re doing. And so she banished any doubts and looked at him expectantly.

And don’t look at me like that.” He twirled the rings in the air, absently connecting and disconnecting them. She knew how it was done, but he’d gotten so good at it, she couldn’t catch him.

She laughed. “Why not?”

He paused in the act of juggling the rings, caught them and displayed them all connected with the engagement ring dangling at the bottom. “Because you make it hard for me to be certain.”

She tilted her head, wondering what he meant…

Blurb

Nineteen year old Kyle sees visions of disasters, visions that tear his world apart. Everyone assumes that he is schizophrenic, but Rob, the cop who picks him up off the street, knows better. Rob's own experience has taught him that psychic powers are real, and potentially devastating.

Since his telepathic sister's brutal murder, Rob wants nothing to do with "gifted" individuals like Kyle. Yet he can't deny his attraction to the beautiful, tortured young man -- an attraction that appears to be mutual. When a brilliant, sadistic practitioner of the black arts lures Kyle into his clutches, Rob faces the possibility that once again he may lose the person he loves most to the forces of darkness.

Excerpt

Blackest night—no moon, no stars. A chill wind, rustling the piles of dead leaves and far away, the hoot of some bird swooping through the forest. Try to move, try to stand. Agony burns brighter than the sun, in the shattered leg crumpled underneath your body. Clutch at the steel rails, slippery with blood. Terrible, total weakness.

A single eye shines in the distance, diamond white, cutting through confusion. The steel sings underneath your body. The beast growls, hurtling closer. You scream, of course you scream. Your cry is drowned by the thunder of the engine, the wail of the whistle. The rails shake, grow hot as live coals. The eye bears down.

No! Help!” Kyle dragged himself out of the horrible dream just as the train hit. The headlight dimmed behind his eyelids, then flickered out. The roar of the engine gradually faded. He sat up in the unfamiliar bed, gasping for breath, his bare chest dripping with sweat.

The maple tossed in the autumn breeze outside the window. He heard a bump outside his closed door.

Kyle? Are you okay?” Even through the door, Kyle could hear the concern in Rob’s voice.

Yeah. I guess.” A twinge hit his left leg, the faintest ghost of the pain from his dream. “Come on in.”

His host sat on the bed, wearing nothing but snug white briefs. Kyle let his eyes travel over Rob’s sculpted chest, following the trail of blond hair that ran along his breastbone down to his navel. An impressive bulk pouched inside the BVDs. Kyle felt his own cock stir and thicken under the blankets.

So it happens while you’re sleeping, too?” Tousled and bleary-eyed from his sudden awakening, Rob looked younger. He smelt of mint toothpaste.

Sometimes. It’s different, though. In the waking visions, I’m a spectator, watching helplessly as disaster strikes. In my nightmares, I feel as though it’s all happening to me.”

Have you tried sleeping pills?”

Kyle laughed grimly. “They only make it worse. There was one night at Worcester State where I screamed for three hours straight without waking up.”

God, I’m sorry. I wish there was something I could do.” Rob shifted, turning more towards Kyle. The cop’s hands clutched compulsively at the bedspread. The lump in his shorts had grown.

Kyle remembered what he’d seen the day he’d awakened at St. Vincent’s. Himself, kneeling before Rob, sucking the cop’s dick. A wave of lust washed over him. He decided to be bold. After all, he had nothing to lose.

There is. Hold me.”

What?” Rob’s eyes widened.

Climb under the covers with me. Put your arms around me.” Kyle flipped back the sheets, exposing his naked body to Rob’s hungry gaze. “Please, Rob. I’m so alone.”

Are you sure?” Rob’s voice shook. The cop stared at Kyle’s rapidly hardening cock.

Kyle stroked himself. His cock swelled in his fist. “Do I look uncertain?”

Rob didn’t wait for a second invitation. Standing, he stripped off his briefs. His rigid, uncut rod sprang out from the stretchy cotton. Kyle’s mouth watered.

The older man stretched out beside Kyle and captured him in a brawny embrace. He was so warm. So strong. Kyle sighed, settling against Rob’s chest, his head on the cop’s shoulder. He tickled the fat nipples, flicking at them with his tongue. Rob shuddered with pleasure. He pressed his meaty thigh between Kyle’s legs.

Kyle’s cock slapped against his companion’s. Their erections rubbed together, the friction kindling delicious sparks. Kyle reached down and captured the other man’s iron dick, squeezing gently.

Rob gasped, then followed Kyle’s lead. He pumped Kyle’s cock in a firm, steady rhythm. The last vestiges of the nightmare melted away.

Jesus, that feels so good!” Kyle lifted his chin to meet the cop’s gaze. Rob smiled as though he were in heaven.

Yeah, it does…”

Kyle’s fingers just barely met as they encircled Rob’s shaft. He stroked thumb along the underside, then over the hood, already slick with pre-cum. He licked his lips, imagining the taste, then smeared the liquid along the stalk. The cock in his hand twitched and pulsed.

Oh, yeah…Kyle…” Rob’s strokes grew faster and more erratic. Kyle followed suit, sliding his fist up and down, the cop’s foreskin stretching tighter with each moment as his cock continued to swell. Once more, Kyle remembered the vision, wondering if it would be possible to swallow such a huge organ. Or to take him inside—the notion was scary and incredibly exciting.

Kyle, oh, fuck, uh…” Rob was reduced to grunts and moans. His eyes were screwed shut, his firm lips distorted in a grimace of pleasure. He arched against Kyle’s body, grinding himself into Kyle’s fist. Kyle squeezed harder, coaxing the cum up the shaft. Rob’s cock throbbed in his hand like a juicy heart. Kyle slid to the base and fondled the heavy balls, which were tightening by the instant. The cock jerked and trembled against his palm.

Kyle was close, too. For a moment, he allowed himself to really feel Rob’s talented fingers, pulling, massaging, every touch sending waves of delicious sensation surging through him. The man was so strong, so sure of himself, despite his earlier reticence. It has been so terribly long since anyone cared about Kyle’s pleasure.

Dizziness fluttered through him. The world lurched a little. No, not now, Kyle pleaded hopelessly. He felt the pressure build. He hung on the edge. Reality tilted, shimmered. No, no, no…

Rob,” he moaned. “Look at me. Please…”

The cop heard, even through the fog of his lust. His eyes shot open and Kyle let himself go, falling into those luminous pools of blue. His cock exploded, his cum shooting out over both of their bellies. A train whistle wailed in Kyle’s head, but the world held, long enough for Kyle to feel Rob’s cock convulse and spew hot liquid all over Kyle’s fingers.

Oh, baby,” Rob panted, fastening his mouth on Kyle’s. Kyle wallowed in the wonderful sensations. Heat and wetness, above and below. Rob’s tongue, Rob’s taste, Rob’s hard body pressed against him.

The dream wrapped around Fae like gossamer silk. It was always the same. The woman’s back was to Fae—shapely curves illuminated against the shadows, the stranger’s face just out view. They were in a dark and winding alley, with the back side of row houses and businesses cluttered with dumpsters and badly repaired fences. The area behind the shops looked ramshackle and smelled worse. A combination of rotting garbage and the reek of something far worse.

A sense of urgency pounded through Fae. She needed to find this woman. Needed to find her now.

Dark demonic wings fluttered in the background, causing the mystery woman to flee. Her skirts whipped up, revealing calves that sucked the air from Fae’s lungs.

An aura of silvery wings hung behind the woman, vanishing as quickly as they appeared. The alleyway grew disjointed—a true setting from a nightmare. The red of her hair was only visible for a moment.

Help me!” the woman’s sultry voice begged, out of breath and shrill with terror.

Fae’s dream self darted behind her. Shadowy faces and writhing figures moved in the periphery of her vision. She stared straight ahead. She had to focus. To find the woman.

Wait!” She reached out, but only caught the tendrils of mist that filled the void.

The air chilled as Fae streaked through the fog. A fractured scream echoed in the murky dampness. Seeing anything became more difficult. The swampy odor of decay made Fae gag but still she pressed on. Don’t look. Just move.

Fae panicked. “Where are you?” The need to find the woman was overwhelming. There was something important about her. Even if Fae didn’t know what it was—she had to find the stranger. With her heart racing, Fae kept moving.

Stop!” A terrible scream rang out in the darkness.

Fae’s pulse thrummed in her throat; her fangs clenched in fear. Where was she? Fae’s footsteps rang hollow as she ran, eyes searching, senses reaching out for any sign of the woman. Around her the buildings changed. Cold concrete walls penned her in. There was only one way to go. Forward.

A dim figure loomed in the distance, barely visible against the mists. Large wings unfolded, the odor of sulfur and dark rotting things made her sour stomach flip once more. The sound of tearing clothes and panicked screams met her ears. Shit.

Fae snarled, racing toward the sound of sobbing. Her boots hit the pavement, puddles of water and filth spraying out as she ran.

There was the mystery woman. Long, red hair draped over the concrete, defiled by the refuse on the ground surrounding her.

A streetlight shone bright in the foggy night air, and Fae was finally able to see the woman's face around the creature that held the woman prisoner in its grip.

Full, red lips parted in shock as the demon’s fingers tightened around her throat. With her wide eyes brilliant and dark against her ivory complexion, it was clear she was dying. Her gaze met Fae’s, a panicked expression of recognition, and as she looked at her attacker, fear.

Fae stepped forward. “Get off her, asshole,” she hissed, taking another step forward.

The being turned its head, empty eyes staring right into her soul.

Fae.” Its lips tilted up into a satanic grin and he turned, revealing more of the partially nude woman.

Fae startled and took a step back. “How do you know me?” Her hand felt for a blade at her side. Nothing. Dammit!

Fae would have to try and save the mystery woman with only her strength.

Her fingers brushed the oily feathers of the demon’s wings, intent on pulling it away from the girl, but instead she ended up with nothing.

Dark laughter filled the hollow passage, and in a burst of noxious smoke, the being was gone.

Fae spun on her heel trying to see where it had gone, then moved back and knelt at the woman’s side. “Red.”

Find me,” the woman whispered, her eyes locking onto Fae’s. A delicate smile drifted across her lips as she, too, began to fade into the mist.

No!” Fae’s heart twisted in her chest. Just when she had found her, the woman was lost yet again. “No!” Despair clogged her throat.

The shadows of the alley loomed dark as the streetlight fell dim.

***

Fae jerked awake. She lay twisted in the sheets. Her breath came in gasps as the dream faded, leaving her cold and alone in her bed. She had seen the stranger’s face. Finally.

Her dog, Jellybean, whined in the darkness and snuggled in closer, her furry black face burrowing deep under the covers.

Red,” she whispered. “I’ll find you.”

Staring out the window into the moonless night, Fae listened as the wind whipped the trees outside into a frenzy. Something was coming. But so was she.

Breakdown - all the lies cover

All the Lies
BREAKDOWN Book 3 by Peggy Webb

THE BREAKDOWN BROADENS... Julia Ford was once famous globally for investigative journalism until the story she was covering went so wrong and an unthinkable act put her on the run. She sought refuge in idyllic Shutter Lake, took a job as lifestyle reporter for the local paper and remained hidden in plan sight for five years...until murder snuffed out Sylvia Cole, the young woman who knew too much.

With Sylvia's killer still on the loose, another girl missing and Julia's past showing up in the form of FBI Special Agent Richards, Julia begins a search that uncovers an evil spreading throughout Shutter Lake. Her last encounter with evil ripped her life apart. But this one could destroy some of the town's most prominent citizens and tear down Shutter Lake's very foundation. How far will she go to expose the deadly secrets in a once-perfect town built on lies?

Excerpt

Only twenty days ‘til Halloween. Julia knew. She’d counted. Every October for the last five years.

As if she needed any reminders, ghoulish carved pumpkins decorated doorsteps, faux bats hung from trees, and ghosts lurked in every dark corner of her neighborhood – the one she’d deliberately chosen when she moved here. Nothing bad could ever happen in a neighborhood on a street named Harmony. On a quiet street where kids tossed balls at twilight and mothers stood in doorways calling them to supper, where the blue-ribbon school was just a few blocks away and the police station was within easy walking distance.

For that matter, nearly everything Julia needed was within walking distance. Until now. Until Dana Perkins had pulled her out of a safe rut and asked her to dredge up investigative skills from a life she’d left behind. One of Dana’s students at Shutter Lake High was missing, and she would not rest until the girl was found.

Less than an hour ago Dana had pressed her again about the girl as they stood in front of city hall where Julia’s instincts told her Chief of Police Griff McCabe was lying about closing in on Sylvia’s Cole’s killer. Everybody in Shutter Lake was up in arms about the town’s first murder.

Julia shifted her shoulder bag to a more comfortable position as she strode toward her cottage, a modest craftsman where culinary herbs grew on the kitchen windowsill and light poured through the windows in every room. Julia couldn’t stand the darkness. Nor the pumpkins. Those grotesque masks. She wanted to walk up and slap every one of them.

She glanced around as if someone might have read her thoughts. Satisfied that her secret was safe, she hurried inside to her orderly cocoon. The Victorian wall-hung mirror in the hallway showed a tall, slender woman on the wrong side of forty with long blond hair windblown and blue eyes untroubled. Julia Ford, lifestyle columnist for the Firefly, a weekly newspaper few outside of Shutter Lake had ever heard of, a paper she’d have dismissed as insignificant before she came here.

She nodded at her reflection, satisfied. Her mask was still in place.

Kicking off her shoes she padded barefoot to her kitchen and made her favorite drink, green tea chai from a mix she ordered online. Fading light coming through the stained glass in Julia’s kitchen window turned her walls a rainbow of soft pink and gold. She loved that about California - the mild weather and the perpetual sunlight that gave Shutter Lake a golden glow.

Until the glow got tainted by murder. And now a disappearance. A runaway? A kidnapping?

She carried her drink into the sunroom she used as an office and powered up her computer.

Let’s see where you’re hiding, Josie Rodriguez.”
