Sign Up for Charity Sunday - 27 December! #HolidaySpirit #JoyToTheWorld #CharitySunday

Christmas Candle

I know everyone is busy at this time of year, so I was thinking about skipping the December Charity Sunday. Then I realized there’s no better time to share our blessings than this season of light and joy.

So...this coming Sunday, the 27th of December, will be the next Charity Sunday. Charity Sunday is a meme designed to give us authors a chance to give back to the world—as well as, hopefully, attract new readers.

How does it work? Each participant selects a favorite charity. Before Charity Sunday, you should prepare a blog post that: 1) talks about the charity and why you support it; 2) provides a link to the charity; 3) includes an excerpt from one of your books; 4) includes the code to show links to other participating blogs.

It’s fun if you can make the excerpt relate somehow to your chosen charity, but this isn’t required. Actually, if you have a holiday story, this would be a great time to share a bit with your readers.

For every comment left on your post, you commit to giving some amount to the relevant charity. The specific charity and the amount to donate are up to you. The posts stay open all month, to maximize the amount of donations. You can set an upper limit to your donation if you want.

If you’d like to participate in the next Charity Sunday, just sign up using the Linky List below. Please be sure that the link you enter will lead directly to your Charity Sunday post, not just to the home page of your blog.

You can get my Charity Sunday banner here.

For an example, check out last month’s Charity Sunday post:

Three things I learned writing The Last Dragon – #MedievalRomance #SweetRomance #Dragons (@daryldevore)

The Last Dragon Cover

By Daryl Devoré (Guest Blogger)

First off – how to spell medieval – medi – e – val. Might seem like a small thing, but when you have a bunch of promotions to write, it helps if you can spell the genre of your story!

Next – I learned I am not great a world-building. Fantasy seems to love world-building, creating the land, the castles and the beasts (dragons, trolls, fairies etc). It took many hours of staring at the key board trying to describe what I could picture in my head and not have it sound like a description.

Lastly – this might have been a time of noble knights and brave deeds, but it was also a time of no flush plumbing, no antibiotics and no toothpaste. The rich cleansed their teeth by rubbing honey on them. Yum. But not quite the same cleaning ability as my peppermint paste. Deodorant did not exist. Although they did bathe until the plague came along, and then it was decided that bathing washed the dirt off and opened the skin so the germs could get in.

So, we may have to deal with annoyances with this current pandemic, but we still have modern conveniences that makes life smell a lot better. (Don’t get me started on medieval toilets!!!!)

What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.

A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought, but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.

Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his father’s kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child - dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.

Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.

Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.

Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?

With the roast mounted onto the spit and Pariset tasked with turning it, Hawkyns and Derry sat and stretched their legs towards the heat. “Lad, I am in need of a squire. My horse and the others need a grooming. My weapons need cleaning. For those tasks, I will pay ye with food and lessons in battle. Tomorrow I will teach ye how to slay a fire-breather. Is this to yer liking?”

With a grin spreading across his face, Pariset nodded his agreement.

One thing.” Hawkyns stared at his new squire. “No more hunting on royal land without permission. I do not wish to negotiate the release of my squire from prison.”

A blush rose on Pariset cheeks as he looked at the floor.

And I will mend yer clothes and see that ye have a fresh bath once a month.” Derry wrinkled her nose.

Hawkyns laughed. “We all need a bath. I believe I smell like a dragon.” He rubbed his chin. “And I am sorely in need of a good shave. Mmm. That begins to smell good.”

Review Tuesday: Christmas Rekindled by Sadira Stone -- #HolidayRomance #EnemiesToLovers #ReviewTuesday

Christmas Rekindled cover

Christmas Rekindled: A Bangers Tavern Romance

By Sadira Stone

Charlotte “Charlie” Khoury has come home to Tacoma, but it’s purely temporary. Her father, stuck in a cast after a work accident, needs her help. Although her relationship with her dad is far from easy and she’d rather be spending the holidays on the slopes with her Portland friends, family comes first. A server job at her old haunt Bangers Tavern is just what she needs to make some extra cash and get away from Jack Khoury’s nagging.

For Bangers bartender River Lundquist, the lively pub is an escape – from his meddling high-society parents and from his grief. It has been a year, but he’s still traumatized by the sudden death of his fiancée the previous Christmas. The traditional festivities in his up-market Seattle community only rekindle the pain of Marla’s loss. The tavern’s funky atmosphere, colorful clientele and motherly proprietor may be the best therapy he could find.

After some initial hostility, Charlie and River become friends, then lovers. They’re both emotionally fragile, however, and unwilling to trust the future. After all, Charlie wants to return to her real life in Portland, while River’s family is pressuring him to move on and date new women. The deck seems stacked against them, until a threat to the tavern’s existence helps them to understand what really matters.

If you’d told me a month ago that I’d shell out four dollars for a holiday romance, I would have snickered. However, after reading several excerpts from Sadira Stone’s novel on her blog, I was so impressed by the quality of writing that I bit the bullet and bought myself a copy.

Overall, I’m glad I did. Charlie’s a great character, simultaneously snarky and insecure. She’s in her thirties, no youngster, and acts her age. River was a bit more difficult for me to believe. Though he mourns Marla, he hardly seems to think about her in any concrete way. In particular, he never seems to compare her with Charlie, or to feel guilty for his strong attraction to the feisty Lebanese-American woman. However, it was the emotional intensity of their connection sucked me in. The love scenes in this novel are positively luminous, without being stereotyped or sappy – nuanced and carefully observed but never clinical.

I always enjoy stories set in distinctive locales. Christmas Rekindled is full of local color. I’ve never been to Tacoma, but this novel brings it to life. I gather that Bangers Tavern was based on an actual place from Ms. Stone’s past. Certainly the pub, its staff and its denizens felt very real. I loved the detailed descriptions of the different promotions and events they stage to bring in customers. I definitely plan to steal the idea of the ugly Christmas sweater contest!

I found the latter half of the book a bit too complicated, with too many simultaneous conflicts. Finally, of course, the tavern is saved, by a deus ex machina who’s been hanging around the whole time. That’s a good thing, because I gather Ms. Stone plans other tales set in the world of this pub. (Indeed, the many secondary characters provide a rich source of possible stories.) And I might consider dropping by Bangers for another round.

A Kinky Christmas Carol – #NewRelease #MMHolidayRomance #GayBDSMRomance

A Kinky Christmas Carol banner

When I was a kid, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was regular holiday tradition. I don’t recall exactly when I read the story, but every year we’d watch a cartoon version featuring Mr. McGoo (which according to Wikipedia was the first animated TV holiday special). There’s a lot of emotion in this classic tale, as well as some important lessons – like giving thanks what we have, and sharing our joy.

Now that I’m grown up (I guess...), those lessons have stuck with me. Today marks the release of my very adult version of the Dickens fable, A Kinky Christmas Carol. Like the original, this story features a main character who doesn’t fully appreciate his good fortune. It takes a visitation from a very concrete ghost to teach him the value of love, as well as the need for honesty in a relationship.

The ghost of Christmas Future...

Michael dreams of being a slave. His lover Neil has no clue about his dirty desires; Michael’s too ashamed to share his submissive fantasies with his burly, powerful partner. Frustrated and confused, he wonders whether he and Neil really belong together.

Then, on Christmas Eve, Michael receives a visit from a sexy Dom named Thorne Wilder, who claims to be his lover from the future. Thorne shows Michael scenes from a wild life of sexual excess that he claims they'll share if he breaks up with Neil.

Should Michael trust the ghost of Christmas future, or does his true future lie with Neil?

Note: This book was previously published by Totally Bound with the title Tomorrow’s Gifts. It has been revised and re-edited for this release.

Exclusive (X-rated) Excerpt

The stranger had removed his jacket. I let my eyes wander hungrily over his bare chest and linger on his prominent nipples, deep maroon contrasting with his tanned, golden skin. He was more slender than Neil but clearly strong. His shoulders, especially, showed well-defined muscle that rippled ominously when he reached for the crop.

Good boy,” he murmured, and I felt absurdly pleased. The shaft whistled through the air. The leather tip of the crop snapped loudly against the sofa. My heart jumped into my throat. “Lucky for you, I know just how to use this.” He gestured toward the armchair in the corner, where Neil normally sat to read the paper. “Bend over. You know what I want, Michael.”

It was the first time that he’d used my name in a while. That calmed me, a bit, taking the edge off my terror without diminishing my lust. I did know what he wanted, as if I could read his mind – or he could read mine.

I placed my hands on the padded arms, leaning over so that my back was nearly horizontal. My naked ass was presented to his view, at a most convenient height. I spread my thighs, knowing without being told that this was appropriate. My balls dangled in the gap, easily accessible. Vulnerable. On the Web, I’d occasionally watched videos of testicle torture, horrified but unable to stop myself. I didn’t want that, I’d told myself, trying to ignore the throbbing in my cock. If this dream-man tried something like that, would I stop him? Could I?

My mind whirled, full of filthy images and unspeakable desires. For a long while, though, my so-called master did nothing. I could tell that he was behind me; I felt the air move when he stepped into position. But he didn’t touch me. Gradually my chaotic emotions subsided, leaving nothing but the ache of lust. I tried to relax, to ready myself for what I knew was coming. The longer I waited, the more I craved the blond man’s attention, even if it hurt.

His hand hovered above my bare buttocks. I felt the heat emanating from his palm. He didn’t touch me, but I felt a ghostly caress as he trailed his fingers millimeters from my bare skin. Touch me, I wanted to beg. Somehow I knew that I was not supposed to speak. The spectral hand moved away, leaving my flesh crying for contact.

A whoosh. A snap. A line of fire laced across my butt and burned into my soul. I screamed, then choked back my cry, as another stroke seared the opposite cheek. A third blow sliced crosswise across both sides, triggering a howl of pain that I couldn’t suppress. God, what if Neil heard? What if he woke and saw me, bent over like a slut, offering my ass to this stranger?

Don’t worry, he can’t hear you.” The blows paused. I gasped, feeling the fiery tracks across my flesh dying down to a pleasurable heat. “We’re in a different time locus. You can scream all you want. He’ll never know.”

He lashed out again. The crop danced across my skin, striking sparks wherever it landed. I yelled as each blow landed, free at last.

I was high on the fantasy. Finally, I was being beaten, by a gorgeous man who knew exactly what I needed. The abstract wonder fled quickly, however, replaced by the physical realities – intense pain and equally overwhelming pleasure. I dreaded each stroke, yet as soon as it arrived, even before the agony faded, I craved another. My new master had apparently inexhaustible energy. Again and again he slashed at my ass, until my whole backside was raw. He laid new welts on top of the old ones. My flesh screamed, sensitized to the point where the gentlest touch would wake painful echoes. And he was far from gentle.

I was beyond screaming. All I could do now was whimper, tears leaking out from under my closed eyelids, fluid dripping from my rock-hard cock. Yet I didn’t want him to stop. I was floating on a cloud of sensation, borne up by the knowledge that I pleased him.

Had enough, boy?” he asked, breaking his rhythm to catch his breath. I could smell his sweat.

More…” I croaked, hoarse from my yelling. “Give me more, Sir.”

I don’t think so. I don’t think you can take it. Anyway, we’ve got to get going.”

Please…” My aching cock suddenly took center stage, throbbing in time with the wounds on my ass. One touch from him and I knew that I’d explode.

You are greedy, aren’t you, slave?” He grabbed my butt cheeks, one in each hand, and pulled me open. I screamed once more as his fingers bit into my lacerated flesh. The pain raced through me to settle in my cock, kindling the final conflagration.

I was already coming when he pushed the handle of the crop into my well-stretched anus.

A chat with E.D. Parr – #MMRomance #HolidayRomance #Fashion @Parr_Books

Night Song cover

Today I’m delighted to welcome MM author E.D. Parr to Beyond Romance. She’s celebrating the release of her latest novella, a contemporary holiday tale entitled Night Song. You can find out more about the book after the interview!

Lisabet Sarai: Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

E.D. Parr: I write stories that pop into my head and hope that they will resonate with someone. I’d love to think that the love stories I write are what readers want. I don’t think there’s enough love in the world, but even so, my stories are character driven. I always have a happy ending. We all deserve one.

I like to think there’s originality in my work. When I look at the body of my work I see originality within the story plots, but the theme of finding love is always there.

LS: Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?

EDP: I never plan my characters, but they’re there before I start the story. Somehow, I just know them. I generally love them, even if one or two of them are flawed. I think that’s a realistic portrayal of people. Who’s perfect after all and as long as they redeem themselves a little that works for me. They do develop but never stray from their initial imprint in my imagination.

LS: What would you like readers to enjoy most about Night Song?

EDP: Well the heroes as characters, of course, the love scenes, and the way Noah persists in seeking out Oliver, but I’d love readers to enjoy the humor in the story, and the camaraderie between Oliver and his co-worker, Eddie. That’s where lots of the humor lies.

LS: What are your upcoming projects?

EDP: I have an MM romance Sci-Fi releasing from Evernight Publishing January 21, 2021. It’s titled Love in Danger.

The story is a gay romantic horror, heavy on the romance/love story between the two main characters to offset some of the Sci-Fi horror elements. I loved writing this story because for once, the lovers had already met and we meet them together as partners. I usually write stories that have the characters meeting and falling in love s this was a refreshing change for me as a writer.

Here’s the blurb for Love in Danger

Centuries ago, the planet they cherished was conquered, but now three warriors from an ancient race of gifted beings intend to remedy that.

Lovers, handsome Corin JaKobi and gorgeous Marcus D’Ath are members of an elite planetary squad that rid the city sectors of the mysterious and dangerous Fallen.

When an old friend uncovers the true horrific nature of the elders in the organization they work for, anger at their duplicity drives Corin, Marcus, and rogue squadron hunter, Zeb to plan for the ruling group’s demise.

It won’t be easy, and when Marcus is captured and detained at the elders’ pleasure, Corin’s white-hot fury at the thought of losing the man he loves knows no bounds.

Will Corin get to his beloved, Marcus, in time to stop the horror that awaits him?

Can the warriors free the planet and return it to the lovely place it was before the aggressors arrived?

LS: Wow, sounds really different from Night Song. But I’m sure your readers will love it.

EDP: Well, I hope so!

Night Song Blurb

Twenty-five year old Oliver Honeycutt has no idea how handsome he is. He’s creative, brilliant at his job, and underused in the designer fashion store where he works. Behind the scenes, Oliver takes special care with orders for customer, rock star, Zane Highwood. When Zane is to be the main attraction in the store’s Christmas party, fashion show, Oliver hopes Zane will notice him.

Twenty-five year old Noah Somersby made his first million before he was twenty-one and now owns a number of casual-chic menswear stores. He’s a designer, gorgeous, and desperate to find a man who will love him for himself and not see dollar signs as they kiss.

Noah doesn’t often take the train into the city, but one rainy day he does, as he settles into a seat opposite Oliver, the two men exchange interested glances.

In fact, Noah is super attracted to Oliver and Oliver thinks Noah is gorgeous.

As the store holiday season party approaches, can serendipity bring them together?

Read a red hot teaser!

Noah read attraction in Oliver’s gaze. Desire raced over him. He wanted to go slow, but at the same time, he yearned for Oliver’s naked skin against his own, Oliver’s mouth on his, and a sigh escaped him.

Oliver must have sensed his need. He put his own coffee down next to Noah’s, then in a fluid move slipped his hand along Noah’s jaw and held the side of his neck. He whispered against Noah’s lips, and the tease of breath raised a tingle all the way down Noah’s chest.

I suddenly want you to rush me. I want to rush you. I want to leap ahead as if we’ve seen each other lots. I want to strip you and have you naked in my arms.”

Noah’s cock shot into an erection. His eyes shut, heavy with lust, as he closed his fingers around Oliver’s and stormed his mouth with urgent kisses. He murmured between them, “I can’t think of anything I want more.” He let go of Oliver and opened the buttons on his shirt with trembling fingers. His entire body tensed as sexual need raced over him. He pulled off his shirt and dropped it beside him.

Oliver swept his hands over Noah’s chest and held his shoulders.

The passion in Oliver’s kiss took Noah’s breath away. He dragged Oliver’s t-shirt up. Then, remembering his hurt arm, he gentled his touch and kissed along the soft part of Oliver’s shoulder.

Oliver helped pull off his t-shirt.

The sight of Oliver’s muscled chest sent a pulse of sensation through Noah’s balls, and he ran his fingertips up and down Oliver’s skin. “It feels good to touch you.” Lust overwhelmed him. He hadn’t realized how much he’d missed being with a man until then, and this was special. Touching Oliver let loose such intense desire, he swept his fingers down Oliver’s torso and plunged them into his jeans and underwear. He contacted the head of Oliver’s leaking cock, and his fingertips slipped on the pre-cum. He groaned with pleasure as Oliver held his face and kissed him hard.

Noah opened Oliver’s pants as he returned the delicious kiss. He pushed them and Oliver’s boxers down. Delight filled him as Oliver lifted his ass so that he could take them all the way down his thighs. His heart hammered. His cock leaked. His stomach tensed so tight his balls lifted. He moaned softly into the kiss as he grasped Oliver’s hard dick. Noah stroked a few times, his thumb circling the slippery pre-cum on the slit.

Oliver broke the kisses to breathe. “I want your pants off, too. Your hand on my cock is heaven.” He sighed against Noah’s mouth.

Too world-weary for a decent young woman … #WesternRomance #ChristmasRomance #Giveaway

Simple Gifts cover
Blurb

Christmas promises to be anything but merry for Robin Matthews who is waging a losing battle to keep her ranch and her family together. So when rugged ex-Marshal Nathaniel Hollister grudgingly agrees to help her run the Rocking M temporarily, he appears to be the answer to her prayers. But with Christmas fast approaching, Robin is going to need a miracle to keep from losing everything, including her heart to this kind but bitter man.

Though his attraction to her is growing by the day, Nathaniel knows he is too world-weary for a decent young woman like Robin. Once the most infamous lawman in the West, he turned in his badge after a tragedy left him guilt stricken and disillusioned. And yet Nathaniel is about to discover that the magic of Christmas has a way of making the impossible possible… and turning wishes into simple gifts that can last a lifetime.

* Simple Gifts was origionally published as A Cowboy for Christmas from Kensington (2000)

Excerpt

"If you hadn't been there, I could have handled things just fine on my own. I probably wouldn't have even been shot," Robin said defiantly. She was sitting upright in her bed now, the covers she had tucked so modestly under her arms long ago forgotten in the blaze of her anger. The well-worn fabric clung to the sweet swell of her breasts.

As he stared at her, his awareness of her as a woman came rushing back in a dangerous tide. Lord, Robin Matthews was pretty when she was in a temper. Her cheeks were flushed with color and her green eyes sparked fire. With that golden braid of hair falling over her shoulder, she looked soft and feminine and far too delectable for his peace of mind. He was painfully aware that he was alone with her in her bedroom, and that she was wearing just a nightgown and not much else. He remembered how good and soft she'd felt while he carried her home, and he could still remember clearly the way her hair had smelled of roses and lavender.

A part of him wanted to take her into his arms, sink back with her into that featherbed, and make her forget all about her precious ranch. He knew she wasn't indifferent to him. He saw the small looks she slanted his way when she thought he wasn't aware. It would be good between them. He'd help her turn some of that passion she felt for her ranch toward loving, and it would be better than good.

About the Author

Anna DeForest wrote her first book-length piece of fiction in fifth grade. She taught history at the Colorado Heritage Center and a Denver private school. She was thrilled when Leisure Books bought her first historical romance, Golden Dreams. She was actually watching Sesame Street with her four-year-old when she received the good news call from her agent, but she managed to tear herself away from Big Bird long enough to listen to the terms of her new contract.

Growing up in Colorado gave Anna a lifelong taste for outdoor activities such as hiking, riding and skiing. She also enjoys gardening, which is currently quite a challenge because armadillos keep rooting around in her garden in Dallas.

Anna has always tried to write the kind of romances she likes to read—stories about warm, caring people who pursue their lives and loves with passion. These days, Anna is excited about offering four of her previously published romances to her new readers, along with three romances that have never been published before.
