Ten Awesome Things Pirates Say

By Normandie Alleman (Guest Blogger)

Thanks for hosting me today, Lisabet. I’m super excited to kick off the Pirates of the Jolie Rouge Trilogy with the first book, Rescued by the Buccaneer. The research for my pirate books is a whole lot of fun. I particularly love the way pirates talk. When I’m writing the books in my pirate trilogy I become steeped in pirate lingo. Here are some of my favorites:
  1. Wench – I love dirty talk and being called a wench will do it every time.
  2. Ahoy! – A classic, it’s just fun to say.
  3. Blow me down. - Perhaps it wasn’t intended as a request for oral sex – but it sure sounds like one.
  4. Shiver Me Timbers – anything that makes you shiver has to be good.
  5. Surrender the Booty – Mighty persuasive.
  6. Coxswain – This is a person who usually steer’s the ship’s boat and has charge of his crew, but I love how dirty it sounds.
  7. Strumpet - Sounds so much prettier than “whore”
  8. Bung hole - Hey, get your mind out of the gutter. It means a dispensing hole in a wooden barrel typically sealed with a cork
  9. Nipperkin - Fun to say, it means a small cup or drink
  10. Poopdeck - Okay so I’m immature but this one always makes me giggle. It describes The highest deck at the stern of a large ship, usually above the captains quarters.

When Frederica Beauchamp boards a ship for the Americas, she dreams of a life filled with adventure, but she gets more than she bargained for when her passenger ship is attacked by pirates. The heartless men kidnap her and force her to serve their captain—a fate that might be worse than death, since though he does not have his way with her, the captain delights in baring her, shaming her, and thrashing her bare bottom as punishment for every imagined disobedience.

After the pirates bring aboard an injured man found floating in the sea, Frederica tends to his wounds and learns that he is Gaston Galette, a survivor of a shipwrecked vessel. Gaston seeks her help to overthrow the vile captain, but when their plan goes awry he is forced to use all of his wiles to save them. As the naïve girl and the seasoned sailor navigate one perilous situation after another, he informs Frederica that the only way they can survive is if he is in command, and that if she thinks things can be otherwise, she will be taken over his knee for a bare bottom spanking.

As he watches the proud, willful Frederica bow to his authority, however, Gaston worries that her growing hold on his heart will be his downfall. He knows he cannot take a woman with him when he returns to his ship and crew, but when Frederica accepts his lustful dominance completely, submitting to him with grace and beauty no other woman could match, Gaston realizes that he may never be able to let her go.

[Today I’m sharing a naughty excerpt with you. In this scene Gaston is trying to persuade Frederica to help him execute his plan to overthrow the Captain of the ship, but he keeps getting distracted by his desire for her.]

Her forehead creased as she pondered this. “You say you intend to take over this ship. And how do you plan on doing that with a couple of weapons?”

Not only with a couple of weapons. Other men will join me. The captain is not a popular man.”

His unpopularity does not ensure the success of a mutiny. Why would the men follow you?”

My dear, I’m accustomed to commanding men the likes of these. I have no doubt of my ability to lead the ones aboard this ship.”

She eyed him skeptically. “You say you’d set me free?”

Of course. I have no need for a slave girl. Once I commandeer this ship, you will be freed and under my protection until we arrive at the next port. Then you may disembark and do as you wish.”

She pursed her lips, considering his offer. “Fine, I’ll do it.”

Excellent!” He hugged her to him. “Let us seal it with a kiss.” Ignoring her wide eyes, he sought those ruby lips of hers and crushed them with his own.

At first she stiffened, but when he pressed his tongue against hers, she relaxed into his arms. He waltzed her over towards the ships’ rail and trapped her against it, whispering, “You’ve been driving me insane with desire, do you know that?”

She shook her head wordlessly.

Trailing kisses down her neck to the hollow of her throat, the rich scent of jasmine enveloped him. He caressed her shoulder, her fair skin gleaming under the moonlight, and her breath caught in her throat as he moved a hand over her breast, flicking the tight little bud that strained against the fabric of her dress.

It vexed him that she was a virgin. He wished he could take her right here, but he knew better than to deflower a girl he could make no claim upon. Dropping to his knees, he knelt before her.

What are you doing?” she asked.

Spread your legs apart,” he said in a low but commanding voice. Reaching under her skirts, he
gripped an ankle in each hand and worked his way up to her thighs.

What? No!” she whispered, sounding panicked.

Do not defy me,” he ordered her. “Do it!” he hissed before disappearing under her petticoats.
He nudged her inner thighs, and this time she widened her stance. Rubbing his face against the velvety skin of her shapely legs, he walked his fingers up towards her virgin pussy and pushed the multiple layers of fabric aside until he found the prize he was searching for.

Hi, Normandie,

"Wench" and "strumpet" have always been favorite epithets of mine!

Good luck with the book. I love the retro cover!

Thanks Lisabet - for hosting me, and I love the cover too! The designer and I were inspired by some 80's covers. I think of this trilogy as a modern, kinkier take on the bodice-rippers from back then and I wanted the cover to reflect that. :)
