"Feeling any better?" he asks, startling me. I thought he'd fallen asleep.
Good question. "I still have a lot to think about, but thanks for listening. It helped."
"Glad to hear it. Sounds like the storm is dying down. It's late, though. Spend the night."
Images of us rolling around in his bed flash through my mind. "Uh, no."
He opens his eyes and looks almost embarrassed. "I didn't mean spend the night with me. In my—I have a spare room."
"Uh—I know that's what you meant. I just don't want to impose."
"It's no problem. Swimming alone in the dark isn't a good idea, and it's still pretty rough out there."
"All right. If it's no problem."
"None."
"In that case, I'll get some sleep." I stand, and so does Kai.
