I’m here to tell you a bit about my contemporary romance The Girl Most Likely, now on sale for only ninety nine cents! I figured the easiest way to get you hooked would be to let my heroine Cara McLeod introduce herself!
Welcome, Cara! Where are you from?
I grew up in Summerville, New York and now live in Rochester, which means that for my entire life I’ve lived in pretty much one spot. How boring is that?
What did you think the first time you saw Finn Cooper?
That he was easily one of the best-looking men I’d ever met, not to mention fit. He is a personal trainer, after all.
What was your second thought?
That he was way too young for me, even if he was interested. Which as it turned out he wasn’t. He just wanted to sell me a gym membership.
Did you feel it was love at first sight?
Hardly. When a guy suggests that you really need to hit the gym, it lets you know pretty clearly he doesn’t find you attractive. But since I needed to lose weight for my class reunion, I took him up on his offer and joined his gym.
What do you like most about him?
Once I got to know Finn better, the thing that drew me to him was his kindness. He’s truly one of the kindest and most sincere people I know. Surprisingly for such a good-looking guy, he’s kind of shy and a little awkward with women, which is endearing somehow. And he can always make me laugh.
How would you describe him?
Like I said before, good-looking. Tall, dark-haired and blue-eyed. He has beautiful blue eyes. Sometimes when I look at him, I feel like I can see straight through to his soul. And he has the most beautiful mouth. I love the shape of his lips. Perfect for kissing, though I’d never say that to him. Don’t tell him I said that, okay?
How would he describe you?
(shrugs) He tells me I’m beautiful, and maybe that might have been true once, but now I’m not so sure. I think he’s just being kind. My ex-husband certainly didn’t think I was beautiful anymore.
What made you choose television as a career?
It was the only job I could get. Seriously, there’s nothing glamorous about what I do. I’m just a gopher at the TV station. I bring guests of the noon-hour talk show coffee and make sure they’re taken care of. Definitely low man on the totem pole. After so many years out of the workforce while I stayed home to look after my daughters, this entry level job was all that was available to me. But low man or not, I’m very grateful for it.
What is your biggest fear?
As a mother, I’m afraid something bad will happen to one of my girls. Aren’t all mothers afraid of that? I also worry that they’ve been affected by my divorce and won’t let themselves fall in love in the future. Beth’s already talking about never trusting a man. I just want them to be happy now, and into the future. As a woman, I’d say my biggest fear is letting myself fall in love again and then discovering the man I love doesn’t return those feelings, at least not for long. I’ve been through that and I don’t want to go there again.
How do you relax?
Relax? What’s that? I’m a single working mother. (Sighs.) I guess the closest I get to relaxation is watching my daughters play soccer. For an hour or two I don’t have to do anything but cheer them on and talk to my friend Nancy.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
It was from my best friend Nancy. She told me not to let anyone else make me feel like a failure. Then she challenged me to figure out what I had to do so I didn’t see myself as a failure anymore. It helped me get off my butt.
THE GIRL MOST LIKELY
Blurb
Cara McLeod, the girl most likely to have the perfect marriage, is now divorced and, in her own words, “fat, frumpy, and over forty.” The thought of facing former classmates—and the ex-husband who dumped her—at her high school reunion terrifies her. Cajoled into attending by her kids and her best friend, Cara enlists help at the gym to lose weight and look great for the reunion. Personal Trainer Finn Cooper is more than willing to help—but does he have to be so to-die-for gorgeous?
Finn thinks Cara is perfect just the way she is. She’s everything he wants in a woman, except for one thing—she can’t get past the fact that he's eight years younger. To Finn, age and weight are just numbers. But can he convince Cara the numbers she worries about add up to only one thing for him—love?
Excerpt
“I think you’re beautiful. You know that, don’t you?”
No, she really didn’t know that, but she nodded anyway. What happened when he woke up one morning and realized that she had a few more lines on her face? Would he still think she was beautiful or would he tire of her, just as Peter had?
“Are you sorry about last night?”
Her head rose sharply. He looked away, not meeting her gaze. However mixed up she felt this morning, she couldn’t let Finn believe he’d somehow failed her. Setting her mug on the night table on her side of the bed, she caressed his unshaven cheek.
“Of course I’m not sorry. I loved our night together. Don’t mind me, Finn. I’m in a mood this morning.”
He tugged at her sheet once more. “Then let go of the sheet and let me hold you before I have to go.”
Cara held her sheet tighter. It was one thing to get undressed in the dark and another to let him see her body in the cruel light of day. “No, please. I’d rather not.”
Would he look at her in the cold morning light and see all her imperfections, her scars, her forty-three years of living? Would he look at her and want to trade her in for a newer model?

About the Author
Jana Richards has tried her hand at many writing projects over the years, from magazine articles and short stories to full-length contemporary romance, paranormal suspense and romantic comedy. She loves to create characters with a sense of humor, but also a serious side. She believes there’s nothing more interesting then peeling back the layers of a character to see what makes them tick.
When not writing up a storm or dealing with dust bunnies, Jana can be found pursuing hobbies such as golf (which she plays very badly) or reading (which she does much better).
Jana lives in Western Canada with her husband Warren and two senior cats named Layla and Leelou. You can reach her through her website at http://www.janarichards.com

Welcome to Beyond Romance, Jana!
This book sounds pretty realistic. We women are socialized to think we're worthless if we're not young and thin....
