The Chaos of Three

By Kat Holmes (Guest Blogger)

First off I’d like to thank Lisabet for having me here today. I just had my very first ménage book release on September 09, 2011 called Heart Of The Queen. It’s the second book in my Gods At Work series. The premise is, what would the gods of ancient Greece do if suddenly, thanks to the money crunch, people stopped paying tributes and they found out they were broke. Why, they’d come down here to work of course!

Book Two is Hera’s story. After so many eons of bad press and putting up with that philandering Zeus, I asked myself what would be true justice for her and I came up with two men. And thus my ménage was born.

Now most people who write romance, be it erotic or otherwise, will tell you its hard enough making that deep emotional connection come through when you only have two main characters to portray. But when you have a third things get downright difficult. Each character has to have their moments when they are the center of attention, when their thoughts are the prime viewpoint. And each character must be well developed. Not an easy task.

It’s hard to get everyone in without head hopping, which we writers know is a big no-no. And making sure you can feel all three characters’ feelings, confusion and worry is no small task. In all honesty, this ménage has been the most difficult book I’ve written simply because of the character dynamics involved.

People who write ménage books a lot don’t get enough credit as far as I am concerned. This is a dilemma they face every time they write and somehow manage to overcome time and time again. I am in awe of their abilities and wish I could do that. I may write more ménage books in the future if my muse dictates that course to me, but for now I hope you enjoy my first ménage, Heart Of The Queen. Here is a brief blurb and excerpt.

Blurb:

Forced to work among mortals for financial reasons, Hera embraces her childbearing skills and becomes a midwife. Living in Vermont with the mortal identity of Heather Juno, she meets two stunning men through a client.

But Hera is reluctant to get involved with either man after her ex-husband spent thousands of years cheating on her.

Veterans of the Iraq war, James and Noah are used to fighting for what they want, and they are not about to give Hera up.

They are ready to battle for The Heart Of The Queen.

Excerpt:

Heather’s intercom crackled and Iris’ voice came on. “You’re new client is here with a couple of gentlemen.”

“Very well, send them in,” Heather said. She stood up and straightened her blouse as the door opened and Iris led in a woman and two men. The sight of the men took Heather’s breath away. Saying they were handsome would be an understatement. The first man stood tall with ice blond hair and a smile on his face. He reminded Heather of the god Hermes in both appearance and temperament.

While the first man seemed congenial, the second man seemed dark and dangerous. His dark midnight hair tempted her to run her fingers through it, while his dark charcoal eyes stared at her. A small scar on his chin gave him a brutal edge. Heather could see each man’s lean body possessed muscles reminding her of steel. She immediately noticed their large hands. A shiver quickly ran over her body thinking how each pair of hands would feel rubbing her skin. Heather looked over at the woman and frowned. Something about her seemed very familiar.

Obviously far into her pregnancy, seven months at least, she had the same coloring as the darker man, except with chocolate brown eyes. She’d seen this woman before, but she just couldn’t place her. She would solve that puzzle another time. Right now, she and this woman had business to attend to.

Bio: I’m a dreamer and a lover of words. Books have been my passion since I listened to my mother reading to me as a child. The love she instilled in me has culminated in my desire to write the kind of stories I have always loved to read. I believe books are the single most important invention mankind has ever created. I started writing when I was only fifteen for my own enjoyment. I still write for my own pleasure, but now I get to share that love with my readers.

I love greek god stories, especially when they are sent to present times and live as non-gods! Sounds like a great read: thanks for the intro on your book!
